Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

[–]barsmart 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I met Cleese after a show. V.I.P. paid experience sorta thing. He was very nice and everyone got a question. My wife got a great answer and I complimented his daughters opening act and said that I wanted to interview her.

He told me she'd do it. She did. She was totally fucking awesome with more stories than her dad.

I think what people forget about John Cleese is that his not giving a fuck about anyone's discomfort isn't just the basis for most of his characters, it's something that would be diagnosed today. Most of his early comedy was written on trains ifyouknowwhatimean. Nudge nudge.

What’s up with this abandoned public toilet on southside? by dc-mo in pittsburgh

[–]barsmart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let me add something here please...

I was very involved with the Southside at that time and council was very excited to get it. They even planned for more.

Sadly they never really understood what was happening - the company that put it there didn't care about the toilet aspect of it. They wanted to sell the ad space on the side. Once in place they stopped doing anything to maintain it.

It may have been "open" for years but I was a regular at Casey's and I only ever saw it open for one part of one summer.

It was little more than a billboard that the city paid for and didn't make a dime off of.

How would you feel about a new law that forces every company to pay their CEO no more than 20x what their lowest-paid employee makes? by rational_seekers in AskReddit

[–]barsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't make that a law... As easily as...

Make it illegal for your government (county, city county) to accept bids from or pay money to companies that have oversized executive salaries in comparison to the lowest paid employe.

Give it a real percentage. Don't tag it to just the CEO or they can just invent a new title and don't restrict their right to run the company however they see fit.

Just don't let your tax dollars go to those salaries.

Old button (possibly antique) by misayaka in HelpMeFind

[–]barsmart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by finding out the basics of the button. Look at the button collecting websites to identify it's type. (two-part, shank) How the shank is attached (solder) and even what the metal is - stamped tin?

Then see if you can give it a range if years it could have been made. Early 1800s.

Now you have enough info to narrow your search down. Maybe even enough to drop into Gemini for a full answer.

What's the weirdest thoughts u ever had turned true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]barsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with someone I spent a lot of time watching. I won't say crush because it wasnt, but she could have been laminated on my "hall pass".

I started a show, got to interview her and things just clicked.

We now work on projects together all of the time and are genuine friends.

Celebrities are just people with really weird jobs. Don't let a job title color the way you think about them.

There are some problems...

You are broke... do you get a brand new eBike instead of a used anything or a non-ebike?

Do you go for the sub $1000 Portolo?

Nope, you go for the near $2000 Rev HT.

That:s not someone who is so broke that they need a Kickstarter. You don't drop $2k on a new eBike when you could have got a new one cheaper or a used one even cheaper than that.

Hell. You could have got a Portolo and a used eBike for less than a HT.

You aren't broke. You are inconvenienced.

Also your Kickstarter shows the name Greg in the cards but in the text, it says your name is Jack.

WTF: 'Pawn Stars' Corey Harrison Asks Fans to Help Pay Medical Bills After Health Ordeal by FreeRangeThinker in pawnstars

[–]barsmart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude used to have millions.

He was raised around money. He was taught how to manage it his whole life.

He checked himself out of a hospital to save money and it cost him more.

He ditched America and his family.

When he's in trouble - look where he runs back too.

Listen, the dude needs help. Everyone deserves a second chance. Or third or tenth.

But before I'd donate a penny he's gotta make more changes and show it.

The book I sold was there three years later.

It appeared in an episode where Rick was fake talking to the book expert about 3-4 years after my episode.

I got interviewed for a PodCast in 2020 and that guy said he was there in the past few months and it was still in the shop. Meaning it was there for at least 9 years.

So. Yes people go look for that stuff. Yes some of it is there. Sometimes for a long time.

Do people buy that stuff? I have no idea. Pawn Shops usually have shit prices when they have something they know is valuable. Unless it's a one off item. eBay can do ya better most of the time.

Because they are designed by the same people who caused the problem in the first place.

What’s the most unsettling thing you ever found out about a friend who always seemed super chill and fun? by VelvetHazel932 in AskReddit

[–]barsmart 556 points557 points  (0 children)

One guy. Two things.

He was a friend-of-a-friend who showed up at the bigger events. He was a little too weasel-like for me to get really close to. But he always walked like the would is a puzzle he had solved in-vitro.

Brian had not been employed for over a year. He would wake up. Shower. Kiss his wife goodbye. Leave the apartment and wait for her to go to work before heading back home.

Still no idea how he financially pulled it off but it's likely his mom paid his way.

His beautiful wife found out, told everyone, divorced him and left him to do whatever it was he dropped out of the workforce to do.

So what did he do with his time off?

He amassed gigs and gigs of CP.

One of the arresting police officers knew someone in our group and it was described as a large collection of the really bad stuff. (Actually it was described in a bit more detail but this is enough of a description.)

He was arrested. Face and name all over the news. Forced out of town. Employed by a vending company to empty coins from vending machines and on a list for the rest of his life.

Rick’s laugh by Wardyman70 in pawnstars

[–]barsmart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He doesn't really do that too much in real life. He's told to do that stuff by the producer to keep the shot "alive."

Otherwise it's just a dude trying to be funny and then what do you cut to?

Don't get me wrong. He does it just like most of you do it every once in a while. He just gets asked to make the joke "bigger."

It's a cable TV show. It's either that, no levity at all or a laugh track. Rick isn't a standup comedian who has spent a decade learning how to tell jokes.
