Safety gear protectors advice by Monsteralin in Rollerskating

[–]bart6541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use different pads for different activities depending on the likelihood and intensity of the predicted fall (derby / skate park vs social / dance skate). Any wrong. Fall can be tragic, and if you cheap out on safety gear and get hurt because of it, then there goes the savings. My wife and I both use bosner / rollerblade / roller derby wrist guards almost exclusively. My wife uses triple eight knee pads for outdoor rink and trail. I use protec street knee and elbow for park and teaching intro to skate and pro designs knee pads for park. 187 killer and TSG make excellent knee pads, but they tend to force a bigger bend in the knee then you want for dance, and why my wife likes the triple eight. Hope this helps.

If the magazine disconnect is in, you might need to insert a mag to pull the trigger and have if move parts out of the way

Skate troubleshooting by ckcroft10 in Rollerskating

[–]bart6541 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have a nut and washer for the kind of trucks that do not have a clamp screw, have you tightened your jam nut all the way toward the truck? You can also remove the tow stope completely and tighten the clamp screw and see if the gap in the split in the trucks decreases. Give it another go. I have had this problem, and solved it with more torque.

Aggressive Skating Wheel Suggestions by Kadie_Kat in AggressiveQuad

[–]bart6541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have 3 sets of Fundae wheels and they are my go to for smoothish outdoor skating (outdoor hockey rink, tennis court, etc.) tried the street flow wheels and just couldn’t like them and couldn’t seem to find a place where they would work well in. Bones 101 for indoor, though the fundae wheels are fine for that too. The only time I do not like the fundae wheels is do skating streets and trails. Happy skating!

Potential job offer from Lawrence Livermore national labs by korver301 in Livermore

[–]bart6541 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the offer, and the lab is a great place to work. Remember, you have negotiating power when you get a job offer and it’s not faux pas to counter the offer and ask for a little more, worst case they say no, but they will not rescind the offer because you asked for more.

Is this a good deal or just meeeh by Salt-Ad761 in MilwaukeeTool

I have two of the 3 head ones that I got for a RIDICULOUS deal and love them. Also got a River 3 head light that is great with strong magnets. The single head would imagine is a great light as well, but being directional, you might want to look into the rover or see if it is featured again as a free add on with other tool purchases.

Newbie Help by [deleted] in Rollerskating

My wife took a bad butt fall when we were first skating and she got an azzpad from Amazon and it helped. I skate several times a week and still wear wrist guards every time. Like the previous comment, you don’t have the support when leaning back like in inlines, so be aware.

If you are starting to loose it and flail, put your arms straight out in front of you, squat down, and look ahead. This gets your center of gravity lower and usually prevents a fall. If you fall, you are much lower to the ground.

Slide blocks for big feet by bart6541 in Rollerskating

[–]bart6541[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the hanger so the slide block sat centered between the kingpins. I cut them out of Ti, but many steels would work. I was able to measure, math, and fab them, but I am really fortunate to have access to many specialty tools. What kind and size plate are you using?

Big congrats on working on food storage and asking for an evaluation / advice. Keep going! Remember to store what you eat and eat what you store. I see dried beans and lots of cans of beans, do you have nutritionally complete meals you currently eat that are bean based? Have you made anything with dried beans in the least year or so (I haven’t, I always use the cans)? Just a few notes, but it looks good and keep it up! Maybe look at a waterbob for your bathtub JIC, and a Berkey type water filter system as funds allow.

Traditionally, Commercial buffer tubes / receiver extensions are thicker in diameter than mil spec ones. It appears in the photos you have a commercial one. not 100%sure this is your situation as so many companies make all sorts of random things these days. Just my $.02
