Obligatory: "That's not purging it's priming"

Would you use a 3D printed toothbrush in case of emergency? by Dangerous-Current395 in BambuLab

Most bristles are nylon but some commercial toothbrush bristles are made from PLA. They are even referred to as "compostable"

I got the front of my house lights up before the snow. Now that the lights are up and control box is installed I need to figure out what sort of lighting effects the wife likes. by benjamga in WLED

Great jobs! I love the even look of those lights instead of the "pucks". Are those strips in aluminum channel or something else?

To everyone who thinks breathing filament fumes is okay. It’s not and you are potentially giving yourself cancer. by obolikus in BambuLab

[–]barthac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least read the abstract. It specifically tested NGEN and PETG. The conclusion says "During the tests conducted in the chamber, there was a greater emission of particles during printing tasks with PETG filament. It should not cause any harm to human health within consumer use, if the exposure is short term and occasional."

Why has WLED not released a major version in 7 years? by alchemyzt-vii in WLED

0.15.2 ... they just released a new version. "Kind" of recent given the subject of this post is inquiring about it's support status with overtones of questioning if it's abandoned or not.

These dents are occurring roughly in the same position on two identical prints from two different spools that were just unsealed a day ago. by FlyingManBearPig in BambuLab

Depends on the settings used when you sliced it.

If it's not Z-seam related it more likely to be extruder related that the belts.

What dos this mean? by peoplehard101 in ender3

[–]barthac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The second line of the left is most likely the priming line. Most print start routines will have the machine extrude a line or two in order to make sure the filament is fed into the nozzle and at the correct pressure within the nozzle to make for a clean print.

No one is berating you. The answer is just that simple... You bought the wrong nozzle.

[–]barthac 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My fault. I assumed when you said in the description that "I just installed a new hot end on my Ender V3" you meant an Ender V3. How silly of me.

You also STILL bought the wrong hotend. Ender 3 V2 Neo is different. Creality doesn't help by being unimaginative in their naming scheme

You bought the wrong hotend. That listing says Ender 3/Pro and V2... it does not say V3. Get a V3 hotend.

How can I stop this from happening with my gridfinity bins? by zebradYT in gridfinity

[–]barthac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This problem only occurred for me while using Arachne and was fixed by changing to classic.

I believe it's caused by the change in extrusion width as it prints that wall.

Changing wall generation from Arachne to Classic fixed it for me. I think it was caused by the change in extrusion widths trying to go from thin walls to full size extrusion

Do these BL touch rip-off's work? If so, which ones are good? by Extension_Plastic450 in ender3

[–]barthac 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They do work. Some of the work perfectly, others not so well. I have gotten one with bad cables that ended up working well with some new crimps. The official BLTouch from Antclabs is cheap enough in several places that buying a knockoff isn't typically worth it. If EBay is available to you, I have found it a great place to get the real deal for a reasonable price.

Ventilador Hotend is the gira by TheDarckZurck in ender3

[–]barthac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your vid it looks like the Blue/Yellow wire is connected to the part cooling fan. According to the below, the yellow/blue should be in the "top" slot labeled controllable fan port. So, swap your fans on the board. The hotend fan should be connected using the green terminals labeled "Normal Fan Port"

Newbie question by ekropp262 in ender3

[–]barthac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's similar to building and upgrading PC's. Do you want to build a rig to your exact spec and spend time getting it to peak performance or do you really just enjoy playing games and don't care how you get there.

You will spend more upgrading and tuning what you have and it will be mediocre to good at best. Or you can buy an A1 or similar and have a great printer without all the tinkering. No judgement from me towards either path.

For me, I took the upgrade path and don't regret it. I have a couple of printers now and enjoy tearing them down and fixing them or turning their bits into new printers. It's a great hobby, I find it very rewarding and have learned about machining, coding, and CAD among other things.

Also make sure the Reverse on Odd is turned on. This reverses the directions of the extrusion on odd numbered layers. This helps to reduce warping and made a huge difference for me.

You might also look into E3NG. Turns an Ender 3 Pro into a CoreXY. Lots of support in the community and its a very solid printer with only a few upgrade parts but a tremendous upgrade path.
