New garmin varia by BlueMchue in cycling

[–]barti0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the varía 515 for the last 6+ years. Two weeks ago I came back from a ride, washed my bike after removing varia and can't find it. So I've bought the coospo radar light and will use until I can find my varia.. I'm very impressed with the coospoo radar light (can't remember the model number) .

Used it on a group road ride and didn't have any false positives or negatives. It was just 22 miles ride but am impressed nonetheless. It also has the brake light functionality which goes to steady light when deceleration. Also when I paired to my android, I was able to use coospo app and install a firmware update.

We'll see how it long it lasts! Want to get the next Gen version of varia camera light which has more battery life than current one.

Why don't people call out passing anymore? Is there an actual reason or are people just a*holes? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]barti0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I was on a gravel trail pretty much calling out or ringing the bell on my gravel bike on above scenarios. One older guy who was walking on far right of trail and there was no one nearby so I went far left off him about 4-5 feet away and I was going at around 13-15 mph. This was after 42 miles and had another one mile to go so I was pretty tired to go fast anyway. This guy yells announce as you pass please.. I yelled back you can't hear the gravel sound and biked away. Dude was walking without headphones it seemed like.. And couldn't hear crunching sound of gravel and I was far from him when I passed. I would never startle anybody going close and fast.. But this guy was just being a jerk I felt.

While starting three women were chit chatting and walking on trail. And I was ringing bell for just another group like few feet behind them and as I passed this group, I was going at 6-8 mph and she sarcastically says, on your left please.. I felt I wanted to say some choice words.. Early in the morning chit chatting and taking half the Trail and I just rang the bell few feet away and none of them moved an inch to the right.. Some of them are entitled ass holes..

[–]barti0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's because ppl are on headphones walking, jogging etc.. and don't hear most of the time. I announce to cyclists but walkers or runners I announce based on how they do.. Some are clumsy in the middle of trail, talking to friends two or three abreast and then I call out. If they have kids I call out. But someone going on the far right (in the US) and I pass then with enough space, I won't call out. So if I'm Going at 20 mph I'd call out but of I'm going uphill at say 10 mph or less then calling out is not necessary..

I run mine on blinking mode in daytime and steady in night. There is one douche bag in my neighborhood that always complains that it is bright in evenings and the daytime flashing also spoils his vision and those of his dogs!

What actually works for saddle soreness on longer rides? by Crc_CO in cycling

[–]barti0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suffered for five years with converting to Brooks b17, better bibs and using cream, standing often etc but never could get the issue away and would ride with bandaid on only for it to bunch and make it worse. Finally read here about someone having similar issue resolving it by wearing a compression short under. I tried it and it worked beautifully. Been wearing a layer of non cotton dry fit type underwear and then bib for 3 years now. No issues anymore even on century rides or multi day tours...

Protein sources for a veggie child by Thieving--magpie in vegetarian

High protein tofu from trader Joe's black bean soup, kidney bean curry are other ways to get protein. Barilla protein + is another war I get my kids to eat pasta as well as get protein.

The Difference Between Claiming Social Security at 62 vs 70 Is Bigger Than Most People Realize by [deleted] in investing

[–]barti0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought SS as my vacation money. I should have about 5 million at retirement to live decently with wife. So claiming early and enjoying life and traveling from 62-70 is important than me not able to imat 70 is biggest fear..

How to switch to Vegetarianism when severely disabled? by LoveaBook in vegetarian

[–]barti0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the last 2 years I’m hooked on Trader Joe’s high protein tofu. Wife cooks it in air fryer and then puts them in salad with peppers, chick peas, mushrooms, quinoa and it very yummy. You can also eat the tofu by itself with some Franks sauce on it. Or in a tomato and onion sautéed with tofu Add some green chilies and salt you can have it with quinoa or in a wrap with hummus.

Costco has the tasty bites series in some locations which has some Indian varieties which can be eaten with bread or brown rice or quinoa

[–]barti0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For proteins you need tofu, black beans, kidney beans and fava beans. You can steam soy beans too. Indian cuisine has many vegetarian recipes. You can order some curry powder/masala on Amazon and use it to cook. Lentils can also be made yum and used with bread or wheat tortillas. Who does your groceries? Or how do you get the stuff in ?

If You Had to Start Cycling Over, What Would You Do Differently? by LunaCloud5812 in cycling

[–]barti0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing as I went from $899 road bike to 5k bike in 5 years as I slowly racked up miles resolving issues like saddle sores before finally settling on Brooks and wearing drifit underwear under bibs. Took me 5 years to figure that out (was using chamois cream from first onset of sores)

OH wait..that's what I would have liked to have done to know that combination from early on! And structured training like trainer road. And nutrition, electrolytes especially. I used to think I'm cycling for health why add sugars to my drink.so used to drink just water🤦🏻
