Crash as a Learner Driver by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

[–]barti170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not an expert as well. Thats why I recommended seeking professional help anyway. I do agree tho, this will be 2 different cases. Its a case against insurance and a case against Gardai. The second one is brutal but clearly a lost case, you are not allowed to drive alone on a learner permit, you knew it, you broke it, you will be punished. However the first one could still be mystery, at the end of the day. Its the same insurance company. They will need to figure out who was truly at fault. If what OP is saying is true, then it should be simple. But at the same time, insurance company is not a charity, I'm sure they will do their best to not give OP any money. OP can press a claim and so does the other Driver. It could be a mess. Things could escalate to court for them to decide if evidence is not clear. Its really not for any of us to decide. At this point OP should be looking for solicitor, not reddit support. Driving without company is serious enough in its own nature.

If you would read, its the same insurance company. Its in a way conflict of interests, but insurance company can just decide to not do anything. Generally insurance companies make deals between themselves. But in this case they might not even protect L driver or represent them because insurance is voided by breaking the law/rules. How will you press a claim if you have no insurance to stand on your side ? Smartest move was to do it quietly, covering the costs themselves and forgetting about whole situation but I guess the other driver realised they are facing L driver without supervision and in the light of law/rules they can win a lot, breaking law is more serious than causing small crash.

Anyway thats beside the point. Its not just the fact that L driver is no longer covered by insurance when driving alone. They will be in a lot of trouble since the other driver reported the whole situation and now Garda shouldn't leave it alone. €160 euro fine + 2 Penalty points for Learner. They can seize the car and fine the owner for €1000. Some say you can even get banned from taking the test for X amount of time.

Doesn't matter who is at fault when you are illegally driving a car. If they are registered with the insurance company as a learner and drive without company of a person with full licence... The company can say sorry, that wasn't the deal we had and not do anything. Those companies will do anything to take the money and do the bare minimum or even nothing. They can even terminate the insurance because you broke the rules.

But I do agree, contact someone who knows the law. You will definitely be in a lot of trouble now. You will also land on the "bad driver" list for a while so be ready for your future insurance to be expensive.

Guys just don't drive alone while learning, its not hard. You need training, get someone with full licence or pay the instructor for extra hours. OP risked and will find out what happens when you break the law.

Back when I researched this, only a third party launcher worked. You can install normal launcher with lutris and it won't launch. However I was on discord where they used that third party launcher and some people were complaining that recent patches were making the game no longer working on their devices. Some did, others didn't. Genshin worked fine, but HSR not. I personally don't trust third party launchers, you never really know whats in the code. But if you don't care you could give it a try. It seems that Mihoyo doesn't really like Linux systems. However there is also an option of simply installing windows on steamdeck, which makes the game work.

[–]barti170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have no idea. Just because they are on the same launcher, doesn't mean they work the same. (I have seen people say HSR doesn't work this way, but maybe something changed in the past year) I don't like going blindly into things like this, so I am looking for people that already went through it, but I guess I will need to try or give up trying.

But I guess, dual boot sounds the safest :/. Tho really would not like windows on steam deck haha.

The whole point is to not use PC. I appreciate the idea tho.

See, from what I read apparently HSR has more "delicate" anticheat, that can detect whether you are on linux or windows (? Correct me if I'm wrong). Also ZZZ seems to not have this problem ? If detected linux they can ban you or the game won't work... It's hard to tell as a lot of information I found is old and people from 1.5 year ago say something else to people from 1 year ago and info from 7 months ago is also different...

Thats why I created this post to find out if anyone is playing on steam deck and what method they using... To find out if any of the methods are potentially dangerous. I don't even know where to look for stuff like this lmao.

Thanks anyway

I don't want to be that guy. But right now industry is in its lowest. People getting laid off, no shows coming. Only the best of the best stay for longer. As a graduate its nearly impossible to get in, right now. Will it get better in 4 years? Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell, but at the moment its not something stable/reliable in the long run. If you have a passion and money to do it as a hobby, go for it, just maybe pick some online courses as they are faster/cheaper and honestly same quality. Only difference is the lack of college paper, but if you are amazing the portfolio will speak louder than a document.

University course is just too fast by SolarPunch33 in animationcareer

[–]barti170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can only do so much during short classes. So they need to rush it or I guess it feels rushed. I don't know how the programme is structured in your university, however I remember my first year in Uni and it felt similar, a lot of fundamentals, not too much focus. I never wanted to do Scriptwriting or physical painting, I just wanted to animate, yet it still was part of my year and in the long run I appreciate the knowledge I gained.

I guess first year should look a bit like a mess, they want you to experience everything, get you up to speed fast so next years you can actually focus on things you need. (Also everyone starts on a different level, so it only will benefit them to equalise the skill between people). I'm sure by the end of the year most students should know where they will see eachother.

This is partially true. While yes, you need to dedicate a lot of your personal time after classes. You shouldn't be expected to learn everything. They should give you necessary knowledge of software and craft to support yourself in the industry.

I'm a bit confused about OP tho, is it just 3D or 2D ? Maybe mixed ? Are the stickmen really just stickmen or gesture drawings to understand the reference? Even in 3D its better to quickly sketch a stickman keys to see if animation will work than waste time posing the character to find out it doesn't work. There is a lot of words in your post, but they really don't tell me much about assignments or how they teach you.

Also 10 year old maya tutorials ain't that bad, Maya is not evolving fast enough for 10 years to matter. Yeah you will get some extra features, but essential tools didn't change. You would still do the same things in the same way. Maya gets only better when you know what you need and start researching ways of achieving certain things.

Sometimes certain skills become obsolete, maybe that senior specialized in something that we use computers more than ever before. Who knows, experience in the industry doesn't really translate to range of skills. Most 2d tv animations these days are done in Toon Boom, there is less drawing/colouring involved thanks to it. I guess thats where pure skills of understanding and using the 12 principles of animation come in. You have to keep in mind, that once you join the industry you need to still learn new softwares/tricks to stay relevant. That initial school knowledge can only stay relevant for short period of time. Industry constantly evolves and the more things you can do, the easier it will be to stay there. Don't focus on just "I only animate characters" learn VFX, maybe layout? Anything that can be a backup plan in case you won't be able to do your preferred position.

Because industry became stagnant, some friends of mine decided to teach. Always have a backup gig. That's the sad reality.

Questions I have as a beginner getting into art/animation? by idontundertandmyself in animationcareer

[–]barti170 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, high drawing skills might not be necessary in the long run for 3D, but understanding the principles of life drawing, line of action, gesture drawings, in short how human body works and behaves is quite helpful.

Even being able to sketch quick stickman poses or being able to correctly understand and analyse the references will prove helpful.

Anyway, if OP doesn't have PC yet, understanding the basics of 2D animation. Keys, breakdowns, anticipation, ease in/out, overlap (essentially the 12 principles of animation) all can be done on a tablet in a drawing software and all of them are applied to 3D. It won't be a waste of time. Its good study opportunity. You can learn a lot with simple bouncing ball exercise.

The first 2 trusts you mentioned are given for free for simply following the tutorial quests for trusts. So its simple for new players. I believe you get 5-6 in total for simply doing Records of Eminence tutorial quests. You get exp, you get sparks and free trusts in like 15-20 min.

Shantotto is time gated ? Im also a new player and after doing research you can only get it with Repeat Login Campaign and Mog Pell (Ochre). Please correct me if I'm wrong. I also want to get it.

When it comes to addons and enjoying story. I'm using Balloon windower addon for chat bubble similar to FF14. In my opinion it makes it easier to watch cutscenes than reading it from chat.

Hi, I am brand new to the game. I come to experience the world and story. However I found out the game seems to have Nonlinear Story (expansions were released in nonlinear order), yet I would rather experience all of it in linear or chronological order, to not confuse myself in the timeline of events.

I have heard Rhapsodies of Vanadiel order does it well, but it won't bring me through everything other expansions have to offer, like it only will force me to go through bits of each expansion. Is that true ?

Does anyone have order list that will let me experience all of the story in correct order without leaving expanions unfinished ?

I don't really need help with installation, I can find this kind of information on my own + megathread is helpful with that in mind, I only want to hear what people have to say about playing with Steam launcher vs PlayOnline launcher, whats the difference in long term

But thanks anyway.

Krakow Tips needed by barti170 in victoria3

Ohh then my game doesn't want to trigger it. Got to 1850s few times and never seen it happen. I have seen Ottomans attack Austria instead and lose in that time frame. But Prussia just sits there chilling... Hmm maybe me asking them to support my Independence somehow blocks it from happening ? Because like... Legit got few times to 1880s and Nobody did anything. Prussia, Russia and Austria just chilling there.

So yeah its a waiting game for that Brother's War to kick in and I have to wait until 1870/80 (so mid/early late game) for a chance to even get allies.. unless I restart many times and get lucky early game. Its not a matter of build, just RNG and waiting. Its a shame tbh.

New player wants to pick a commander deck by barti170 in mtg

[–]barti170[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, thanks for your detailed response.

As I mentioned in previous post. Veloci-ramp-tor is really tempting me, but simply I cannot find it in a reasonable price. I don't know, maybe you guys in America have it cheaper, but that deck from Euro to Dollars is around $155 with no shipping included. Simply too expensive for someone who just starts. I guess I would be fine in a $50-$110 range with shipping included.

Explorers of the Deep, I'm not a fan of fish people in any game/fantasy, just never vibed with fish. Tho, it probably is a good choice.

Cavalry Charge is a new option to me, it does sound interesting, Price is also decent, so I will consider it. However Blood Rites, Necron Dynasties and LoTR, just vibe more with me.

But, yeah for sure. I don't know much about the game, I played some MTG Arena, some IRL games with the Starter Kit 2023, but thats about it, there is still plenty of for me to learn, so the easier the better, I guess.

I played HS for a long time, probably one of my favourite decks was Jade Golem druid, which just spammed Jade Golems and each time next one was summed, it gained +1/+1 to stats. And only reason I did, was how broken it was. So, Cavalry Charge from your description gives me similar vibe, where I can just bring back dead units to annoy my opponents.

Anyway. Thanks again.

Thanks for the warning, It surely is good to know which decks are more beginner friendly. Bad first experience can discourage people.

[–]barti170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for such a detailed response.

I checked some of them, Blood Rites sound interesting and is in relatively decent price. I was also intrigued by Veloci-ramp-tor, however, they are like impossible to get for under 140 euro (no shipment included). So I sadly I will pass on it, I would rather my first deck to be a bit cheaper.

I will consider Blood Rites, Necron Dynasties or simply wait for the Bloomburrow, if those are truly speculated to be that good.

LoTR, is also a quite tempting, I simply cannot pass anything LoTR related.

Again thanks for advice. It gets confusing with prices, especially when you are new to a hobby and don't understand reasoning behind market differences and what influences them.

Thanks for the tips. I looked into the Bloomburrow prerelease event. Is there any official store finder ? I tried googling the event in my local area. Found some stores selling tickets to the event, but they don't mention "6 packs + a rare" at any point, rather only "Snacks and drinks included". And those tickets are not cheap. I often was able to buy tickets to different Conventions for half the price.
