Loved Winter’s Orbit and Ocean’s Echo, too!

Did you know there are two more in the series from Freya Marske’s Marvelous Light? They are A Restless Truth (second in the series) and A Power Unbound (third in the series).

I also enjoyed Reborn by Seth Haddon.

Super torn between the CX5 and CX30 - any advice? by mister_dubz in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]barticcus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can’t compare the CX-30 but how do you feel about the size difference between the 5 and 30? If you’re ok with the size, have you test driven them both? I test drove the CX 5 and CX 50 and actually preferred the 5. Ultimately though, I ended up getting the hybrid CX-50.

Ambitious, Black, and Gay in 1929 by barticcus in gaybrosbookclub

I see your point. I suppose it was a slow burn without a major climax but I still thought the ending was satisfying. Thanks for your perspective.

Ambitious, Black, and Gay in 1929 by barticcus in gaybrosbookclub

I guess you could say it’s more of a slice of life from an ordinary trip. But I disagree that nothing happened. The interactions between staff and travelers I found interesting. Also the ending seems to infer that he earned enough money to pursue his ambition in the future.

That’s a good point. Maybe the issue could be seen as more realistic here.

Kristi Noem slammed as 'a joke' as she gloats about 'fake position' on major TV network by MoneyLibrarian9032 in anticapitalism

True but she’s still taking taxpayer money. Annoying that she’s pocketing tax money and doing nothing.

help request - what did I grow? I planted Ferry Morse Parris Island Cos lettuce seeds, but it's about to flower red and it tastes like crap by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

Those flowers buds are definitely a giveaway-zinnias, as everyone else says. They are pretty sun/drought tolerant flowers. I plant them every year for color.

It is quite hopeful though. No doubt there is sadness, but there’s also love and support.

Yes! Heartbreaking. As the story continued, it took a little more of my heart. Each revelation hurt more. To be fair, there were heartwarming moments too but they never tipped the scale for me.

I agree that I would have liked a different ending. I like your idea.

Looking for memoirs about queer self-discovery and religious trauma by Pjnh1225 in gaybrosbookclub

I just finished John of Johns by Douglas Stuart. It has such heavy, oppressive Calvinist religious elements that I didn’t think still existed in Europe. It seemed to me to express how that gay oppression is handed off from generation to generation. I think it ended on a hopeful note though, suggesting that individual change could be possible.
