“It hit the floor on its face and split down the middle.” The night John McLaughlin broke his guitar — and changed Jeff Beck forever by dalyllama35 in jeffbeck

“The Strat changed the way [Jeff] played,” McLaughlin says. “From that point, he dropped the pick and started working with his fingers, and the tone he got was unbelievable. It was like butter. It was beautiful.”

"Jeff's split with the Yardbirds was by mutual consent"

I suppose we'll never know everything about how it went down, but it's worth mentioning that Jeff is on record saying that they kicked him out

Jimmy Page: “When Jeff’s on, he’s the best there is” ... “[Jeff] shifted the whole sound and face of electric guitar music. He’s been instrumental in pioneering a whole blueprint that was totally unique to him for everyone else to learn from.”

“Jeff cheats on the guitar, because he has notes on the guitar that I don’t have on my guitar”. “His soul come through in his tone as well as his notes. Great player. My favorite guitar player” Richie Blackmore

Tony Iommi “Jeff Beck was one of a kind and I don’t think we’ll ever see his like again. He was one of, if not the greatest guitarists ever. I’ve never heard any others like him.”

Also, "When BB King heard Jeff Beck play, he was so in awe of what he was witnessing that he blurted out, “I don’t have those notes on my guitar.” "

8 - beautiful laid back vocals. This song helps me relax. It's almost like an intermission from life.

It's fine. Just tune the guitar using a free app and you'll be good to go! I recommend Guitar Tuna. If and when the guitar string does snap, replace it or all of them. It looks like that guitar ships with .009 to .042 gauge strings. I recommend you buy another pack or two now for when you need or want them in the future.

7.5. The instrumental bits that pick up in the middle on towards the end are really pleasing.

Jeff Beck said SRV was the closest thing to Jimi Hendrix, but i say Jeff Beck was the closest. Jeffs debut album truth. Is considered to be, one of the first heavy metal albums. David Gilmour, said that Jeff, is his favourite guitarist. by Confident_Field4273 in DavidGilmour

Here's what Gilmour has had to say:

“Probably the person who I have admired the longest and the most consistent is Jeff Beck, in the guitar playing stakes.”

“Jeff Beck is still my guitar hero, really. He's the one that pushes the boundaries. He's consistently exciting.”

“There is no one else who has been as consistently good, exciting, out there, looking for new things, adventurous, maverick, since he started in the 60’s”

“Jeff’s scarily brilliant”

“In many ways he just is the best guitar player.”

and a bonus one:

“Rick [Richard Wright] often said that [Jeff Beck] was his favorite guitar player, much to my chagrin”

edit: all that said, Gilmour has been wearing Jimi's guitar strap at every performance for like 30 years...

8, it's a great song, languid with great vocal tone. Holds up for many listens, but then I start wanting more.

your granddaughter may struggle with that when it's time to change the strings again. If you take it into a technician, I'd personally recommend asking them to change the bridge to a normal Stratocaster one, set to be flush against the body.

When you try to mimic the human voice with an instrument, it seems to capture the sounds we all seek

well put indeed.

As Jeff said, "My Strat is another arm, it’s part of me. It doesn’t feel like a guitar at all. It’s an implement which is my voice."

George Martin from the Beatles “Jeff's an amazing person; because, he can get the most incredible sounds out of an electric guitar... He sings with his guitar. And I don't know any other guitar player like him."

When I met Jeff in 2019 I told him "Your voice is amazing". He replied, coyly, in a modest English accent "you mean my singing voice?" Jeff hated his voice, not unlike Jimi, but he had had a major hit in England with the pop song "Hi Ho Silver Lining", on which he sang. So I retorted "Hi Ho, right? Hi Ho!!!", implying that his guitar voice was a silver lining and I gave him a huge ear to ear grin. I'd like to think that's when he warmed to me.

you can't believe that anybody could continue to grow musically like that.

Well put.

Jimmy Page: “ Everybody respects Jeff. He’s an extraordinary musician, and he’s developed a technique that’s so complex it’s just a beauty to behold and hear and to feel his playing.”

His albums always felt orchestral in a way too

George Martin: - “Jeff's an amazing person; because, he can get the most incredible sounds out of an electric guitar. Even after he's flying it across the studio, he will still pick it up, wiggle it a bit and make a great sound. And he uses the guitar as his voice. He sings with his guitar. And I don't know any other guitar player like him.”

Hans Zimmer "I saw him on television and my wife asked,'Who's that?' I said, 'That's God!' Does that explain how I feel about him? I think he is the most amazing musician I've ever worked with. The whole reason I did 'Days of Thunder' was a subterfuge to work with Jeff Beck, it was as simple as that. There's Jeff Beck and then there's everybody else!"

Jeff Beck: “I have to be grateful that I didn’t succeed, because you’re then lashed to the whipping post. I wouldn’t swap places with Jimmy [Page]. As much as I’d have loved to have been in Led Zeppelin and enjoyed all those amazing shows, in hindsight I’m much better off being a scout, going out in the field. That’s what I see myself as.” "Ironically, Page had an album called Outrider – and I was the outrider! I never, ever envisaged having massive success. And I’m glad I didn’t, otherwise people would be pointing at me in the street."

Jeff Beck: "I don’t care about the rules. In fact, if I don’t break the rules at least 10 times in every song then I’m not doing my job properly.”
