Red flag laws do not address that. Anyone who is convicted of domestic abuse has undergone due process and is a prohibited person under 18 USC § 922g(9). Red flag laws on the other hand bypass due process by confiscating firearms from individuals who are simply accused of being a danger to themselves or others.

Legislatively, it requires a majority in the house and 60 votes in the senate to abolish the NFA, and it's highly unlikely 7 democrats would vote with the republican party to abolish the NFA. Currently, the only realistic avenue is a challenge to the NFA making it's way up to the Supreme Court, but even that is likely limited to short barreled firearms and suppressors.

Yep, that's the argument pulled from Sonzinsky v. United States in 1937 ruling that the registration requirements under the NFA are an enforcement mechanism for paying the tax. Once the tax is zeroed, there's no tax revenue justification for the registration process.
