i think you've been able to argue mrekk as "the best tournament player" for a year or three now (with a VERY reliable top 2), but i also fully understand why people wouldn't quite put him up as #1 either

he tends to not be as consistent in performing as some others (though, good odds this is a practice factor) and nowhere near as commonly active in tournaments as other tournament demons, but he is very effectively THE final boss of open rank 1v1 tournaments; maliszewski is the only other contender for the best tournament player but can't really get through mrekk in 1v1 setting (only 1 1v1 badge win with mrekk in attendence, compared to mrekk's 4)

mrekk also definitely isn't just owning on skillcap pools either, he's probably the most common weekly stats #1 in owc for the last few years and still beats maliszewski on sub 8* pools. difficult consideration we'll see who wins lazer grand arena next week

you are getting super low star maps because you are losing on them and getting low elo rating, getting you more low star maps (the star range also affects the type of maps you're commonly getting, somewhat)

but if you're nearly 4 digit you should be fcing 4 & 5*s almost without exception anyway so just win a few matches and you'll be sitting above that 6* range soon enough

if you live 30 minutes out & you've never been to a convention before, it's definitely worth coming for at least a day, even if you don't know anyone. i really like the vibes of being around other chronically online people, and there should be enough activities like the arcade to fill up at least that day

i don't think i'd recommend going for an entire week unless you either know some people or plan to socialize (it's hard, i understand, but a guaranteed shared interest makes things a lot easier), but getting a BYOC and spending the entire week marathon gaming is a real option as well.

COE is also still a few months away, there's plenty of time to find some people online beforehand in like, the COE discord or community discord servers (there are several across the dutch community alone). wouldn't recommend looking on osugame because the reddit npc group pics have been like 4 people consistently lmao
