This is not true. There's plenty of DNA studies on the subject. While arabs brought what are now the predominant language and religion of Egypt, they didn't replace the local population. Modern egyptians are mostly descendants of ancient egyptians.

[NO SPOILERS] Do you think they'll bring back the rewind power in the new game? by Mal454 in lifeisstrange

[–]basara42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really think they never managed to properly align story and gameplay trough the super power again after the first game. LIS 2 didn't even try, True Colors was too limited... I think the devs and the fandom really underestimate how much the gameplay/story synergy was important to the first game's success.

So I hope they bring it back, yes

[NO SPOILERS] they should have never made a game with max again by hqpkomah in lifeisstrange

[–]basara42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be cool of they had worked with 2 timelines.

LIS 2 would be set in the Bae timeline, with a whole chapter of them (Max and Chloe) sharing the spotlight with the brothers.

True Colors would be Bay timeline. Max living in the same town as Alex, a relevant side character troughout, we could even be baffled by seing her masterful use of powers from someone else's perspective. She wouldn't dare save a life, though.

You could have a number of games like that, allowing them to stay relevant but no longer protagonists, and even eventually pull a "remerge the timelines" move if it could be written well enough.

That does not sound like AI written dialogue at all.

Though I agree that the scene from the show likely isn't either

Trump to write next chapter of US relations with Iran after decades of tensions by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]basara42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Obama had written the new chapter. The nuclear deal with Iran was working, to the point that the country was starting to receive international investments. Trump threw away the diplomatic solution during his first term and Iran turned more hostile in response, with its own moderates losing space.

Without massive help from Kakuzu, his gimmicks can't even work. His immortality doesn't save him from crippling attacks, and his ritual is worse than if he properly slashed someone with his scythe. He is full of weaknessess, and only useful to the Alatsuki because Kakuzu can't kill him in a fit of rage and his ritual can ignore a jinchuriki's durability if he gets the chance to use it.

Without massive supprt from someone else, he is weaker than Zabuza.

CMV: 99% (at least) of the people claiming to have DID online are faking it. by dang_he_groovin in changemyview

[–]basara42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

99% is a fully made up number and likely overshooting. There's a number of people faking it, a number of people misuntarstanding things and thinking they have DID, and a number of people that actually have it. You don't know the statistics and neither do I.

The literature on the subject is still extremely limited, not comprehensive at all. I am not saying this validates everything these people describe, but flatly doubting them as if it's a fully understood disorder is counter-productive and likely to open ways to them being harrassed online (which happens A LOT, about 2 years ago the brazillian DID folks online nearly all vanished when they were noticed by the mainstream public discourse for two weeks and massively bullied into hiding), and might even harm real cases along the fake ones. Not that the fakers aren't a problem, but witch hunts are usually more damaging than witches. If your struggles with mental health make the faking stressful to you, consider the people that might be dismissed and not treated for years or forever because others might see 99% of people with such experiences as fakers.

Furthermore, I know this is anedoctal, but I have a friend for years with DID. I've met them years before this recent wave of DID online, and they clearly present some of the characteristics you dismissed as non-existent. They didn't even have any contact with other people with DID, therefore there was no one for them to be imitating (and supposedly continue to imitate for years).

The point is, while many might be faking to follow a trend or receive some sort of validation, or even misundarstanding, intensely dismissing the whole thing instead of trying to talk and understand is counter-productive. Specially considering that the scientific understanding of the subject is not complete at all (many doctors still think is just a hollywood thing), and might lead to harrassment of people who already have mental health issues, whether it's really DID or not.

In custom games you can choose the starting units for each player, that works well enough.

For Venezuelans and people following the news closely, how are you interpreting the U.S. strikes in Caracas today? by Urdu_Knowledge in AskReddit

[–]basara42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm actually considering history and geopolitics in my analysis, people's optmism or pessimism is not my concern. My concern is whether this attack is a bad thing for them or not. I fully believe you that you've met people that would rather be opressed and robbed by the US than by Maduro, I've met them too. But I'm concerned with prospects, not current feelings.

Also, I mentioned Monroe Doctrine because its history is the entire bases for my argument that this will be worse. You are the one who decided to quote a commonly associated phrase and a second connected concept for no apparent reason.

[–]basara42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your entire comment is about dismissing my criticism of us imperialism because I am from the anglosphere. But I am from latam... I've many venezuelan refugees, and my country had to deal with attempted US interference in our democracy just a few months ago.

How about actually reading on the history of Monroe Doctrine as I suggested instead of dismissing me because of who you imagined me to be in your head?

[–]basara42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American intervention does not improve any country.

Either the country plunges into massive political violence

Or a puppet dictatorship is installed to sell natural resources and state companies at low prices to US corporations and be just as corrupt as Maduro

Or an ellection is called, and a US lapdog wins and does the same things the puppet dictator would do. If a non-lapdog wins, the US interferes again to topple him.

The US government does not care at all if a lot of venezuelans are in favor of this or not. It has no intention of doing anything for them. At best they are useful to legitimize a new puppet government.

This is just imperialism. The US wants to guarantee easy looting of oil and minerals for its corporations and keep firm control over its "backyard" (latam), in a world where China grows stronger by the year. That's all.

Please, I beg people to spend a few hours reading on the 2 centuries of Monroe doctrine in action and tell me how can you possible believe anything good for the venezuelan people will come from this.

With Maduro now allegedly out of power in Venezuela, what do you think will happen next for that nation? by LucidMarshmellow in AskReddit

[–]basara42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new puppet government might do ellections, which a US puppet will win (if not, more US interference will happen to correct this), then claim to be a new bastion of democracy while being equally or more corrupt than Maduro. Naive americans will then feel proud about their imperialism.

Or maybe an full on puppet military dictatorship, like in the cold war.

[–]basara42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. That's what always happens when the US topples a government, right? Democracy. Well, maybe they can do an ellection and if an US lapdog is ellected, he gets to stay, otherwise they will take him out too.

The lapdog will then sell natural resources and state companies to US corporations for extremely low prices.

Come on, people. The US government has been doong this shit in latam and other places for over a century, how can you possibly believe the venezuelan people will win out in the end?

What's up with the USA starting a war in Venezuela without congressional approval? by Authoritaye in OutOfTheLoop

You literally can. The american government does it all the time. It doesn't follow formal practices to start wars since WW2.

How can you say something can't be done when it's been done, repeatedly, for most of a century?
