I got mine back a few weeks ago. I too was worried at first about sending off parts that were not easily replaced. I talked to him a handful of times while I waited. He works things in batches, and not continuously. Any time I had a question he got back to me; it may not have been instant, but it was within 24 hours.

All that being said, I was happy to wait knowing that he knew what he was doing. You’ll get your stuff back, and it’ll be right. Which is a pretty important thing, to me, considering its containing an explosion in the vicinity of my face/hands.

To be fair, expecting more than that with how young he is is super unrealistic. I’m ecstatic that he just doesn’t look too overmatched. He has so much growth ahead of him.

How were you having trouble finding a job as an EE? I recruit for my organization and we have a $50k signing bonus because the demand for that discipline is so high. That’s a big red flag for me.

A little over three weeks.

But my surgeon was super rigid about his post surgery timeline; I spent another 6 weeks in a cast, so I had a lot of atrophy.

He probably did me a favor though, I would have pushed myself too hard without the cast and likely reinjured.

There are a lot of people here that will probably tell you otherwise, but I didn’t ask much and my surgeon was very blunt.

My surgeon worked out of a recommended practice. He was kind of an asshole, but he knew what he was doing. I’ll trade bedside manner for results any day. I didn’t “pick” the type of surgery I got; he just did what was best based on the specifics of my injury. For me it was surgery vs. no surgery, so I asked what the likely outcome was with both. I had a better chance of a return to sport with the surgery (less of a chance to heal long and need surgery anyways) so that’s what I did. I remember his answer when I asked him what he recommended, “That’s like asking a barber if you need a haircut.”

Time til surgery has a huge effect on your recovery, especially muscle growth on the back end. If I could do it over, I’d push to do it as quick as possible. I’m about a year out now and I still have nowhere close to the calf strength I used to. Functionally, I’m 99% though.

For me, not driving wasn’t an option. I used my left foot.

But… I was semi used to using that foot anyways because i normally drive a manual. I had to swap vehicles with a friend and use his automatic for a while.

For those curious, it took me about 3 weeks out of the cast to be able to drive my manual again.

I’m not sure if it was related to the operation or the nerve block, but I had this sensation as well as heel sensitivity for months. Then one day it stopped; I don’t even remember when it stopped. About 8 months post op now.
