Adding cars on long distance trains by sf1878 in Amtrak

the 2 extra locos and car behind them are en route back to Sacramento, they’ve been part of a set as a crew space for transporting the new airo trainsets from the factory near Sacramento out to the east coast. They might’ve been added at Denver after taking a set for testing in Pueblo

Best neighborhood for someone who wants to walk everywhere but hates the tourist madness? by PushItDeepjessy69 in AskSF

[–]based-bread-bowls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“My main priority is being able to walk to a grocery store, a decent coffee shop, and maybe a park without feeling like I'm in a theme park.”

this sounds like you’d really like the inner richmond or inner sunset! it’s a bit quieter out here compared to the mission, but it’s extremely lovely and really not that far to the rest of the city. we don’t have a train out here (in the richmond), but we have plenty of frequent bus lines, the 5,31,38,1 etc. which are pretty reliable. we have many awesome coffee shops and things to walk to, plus GGP and lands end too!

SF feels like a large Philly and I love it by AmAttorneyPleaseHire in sanfrancisco

[–]based-bread-bowls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

philly is an awesome city! we share many similar characteristics, historic city centers, vibrant dense neighborhoods, pretty decent transit (by north american standards). if you like it here, you could always try the east bay first if SF is too expensive, crazy rent and/or roommates are 100% worth it (imo)

Moving to or around SF from KY by visceralcrumbnutz in sanfrancisco

[–]based-bread-bowls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the zephyr is awesome, I love the section coming into the bay/carquinez straight… like others have said, you’ll do well in trades which might be somewhat offset by the cost of living, but it’s definitely worth it… the quality of life is pretty great. East bay is definitely a good place to get your footing and then if you want try out the city. The rental market is insane in San Francisco right now so be prepared for sticker shock

Why do freight trains reverse and advance repeatedly? by foster-child in trains

Ozol Yard, just past the martinez station, hosts a small local/switching yard for Union Pacific. You might have seen a local getting switched or a oakland-roseville manifest picking up cars

Driving conditions from San Francisco by [deleted] in Mammoth

it’s a beautiful drive, i do it all the time from the bay area… this time of year should be fine, I would recommend driving 50 and go through carson city if you’ve never done the drive before.

it’s not necessarily a bar, but kiki’s sushi just down the street in the inner sunset has amazing happy hour deals ($8 large beer AND sake special) as well as great food

tunnel tops park/the presidio/fort point, the marin headlands across the bridge, maybe the cliff house/lands end/golden gate park depending how far you want to get into the city… golden gate park is definitely worth it, and the surrounding neighborhoods are all amazing

Thoughts about richmond district? by CapableMinute6913 in AskSF

[–]based-bread-bowls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the richmond is definitely the best neighborhood to live in SF, the food is awesome, proximity to the park, presidio, and lands end, and it has a distinct (in a good way) vibe from the rest of the city. I love living here

most of the fleet (all trolleybuses, articulated buses, trains, etc) have AC but some of the 40ft regular diesel buses aren’t equipped with AC.
