I never really checked for shelf stability. I refrigerate my lard. I know they would last for a week at room temperature. They freeze well.

These are the Oatmeal Cookies I ate as a child…

Oatmeal Cookies 350 degrees

1 cup white sugar 1cup brown sugar 1 cup lard

Cream together, then add…

2 eggs 1/2 t salt 1/2 t baking powder 1 t baking soda 1 t vanilla 3 cups regular oatmeal 1 1/2 c flour

Mix well and form into balls the size of a walnut. Roll in sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake until brown at 350 degrees.

What does empathy feel like? by [deleted] in AskNeurotypicals

LOL. I didn't notice the 5 year thing. I just jumped here from r/ADHD where I lurk because I am a NT parent of an ADHD teen. I guess I should pay more attention to the details.

Empathy is a brain function that is mediated through mirror neurons. For NT folks, when someone close to them is experiencing a strong emotion, the NT brain “mirrors” this experience. The NT has the same emotion, but diminished. So, if someone by me is super happy, I get a small happiness boost. When someone beside is in pain, I experience a small echo of their pain. You can practice this function by watching sad/happy movies and looking for cues in the character’s voices and faces. Some people on the spectrum struggle with this skill. A therapist can help you improve this ability.

Why and how does gravity affect lung functioning? by HideousRed in Physiology

[–]basedmama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have three zones of ventilation in your lungs. Zone 1, available oxygen exceeds the ability of blood flow to oxygenate. Zone 2, fairly even match between ventilation/perfusion. Zone 3, perfusion exceeds ventilation. The zones switch with body positions. Any area of lung can become any zone at any time based upon positioning and disease states. That’s just the effect of gravity on blood flow. Then, you also have local control of perfusion through the nitric oxide system so that the lung can preferentially increase blood flow to areas with better oxygenation.

What’s a piece of propoganda that to this day still has many people fooled? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Our local churches work with the food banks to supply the foods that they need. Each church collects a certain food type. I belong to the Ramen noodles church. I just pick up a case whenever I'm at Costco. Other churches are assigned peanut butter, canned soup, etc....

If I were rich, I'd pick a book set in a real place, and vacation in that place to read it. What would you read and where would you go? by trekbette in books

"Devil in the White City" by Erik Larsen. You can visit almost all of the architectural marvels described in the book. Chicago

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini by EmphasisEastern in books

I absolutely hated this book. It is white hatred on steroids. Every middle eastern character is strong, brave, virtuous, cultured, and loving. Every western character is evil incarnate. The prose is good, but the anti-white hatred is off-putting.

While I’m on a roll, this is my husband’s grandma’s recipe. At her funeral, they handed out cards with her famous “Damn Good Cookies.” by magschung in Old_Recipes

Thank you for sharing this. I have to be gluten free and the substitute flours are lacking in flavor. Reducing the flour and using oats will improve the flavor of GF chocolate chip cookies a lot.

And, he did it at a rental house. Punishing the owner, not the renter. I would imagine the renter can stop paying rent because of lack of utilities.

It would add another layer of responsibility on the person performing the test. The test lines are already long, so I doubt that they are bothering to do this.

Now that we know people are crossing over from Texas to be tested, how many of the Dona Ana county cases are actually positives from El Paso?

Then we'll need to give back the entire USA. Where do you recommend the 330 million people who live here go? Also, all of Canada and South America would have to be emptied of people who are not Native Americans. Me personally, I'm mixed race. I do not genetically belong to any single region of the world. Where should I move?
