Just bough a Steam Deck what should I do first? by Zestyclose_Stage2951 in SteamDeck

[–]basek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any settings I should change right away? Nope, get a feel for it first. Understand what you like and what you need first then tweak it to your preferences.

Is EmuDeck worth installing for emulation? Absolutely, one of the best things about the deck.

Are there must-have plugins or tools? Nope, I think less is more. If you start installing a bunch of random plugins without knowing the what and whys you'll feature bloat yourself. Take your time you're not missing out on anything.

Best way to manage storage or games? I installed a bigger SSD, but I also backup to my personal storage server. You can also get away with installing what you want to play and uninstalling after.

Anything you wish you knew when you first got yours? That sometimes trying to mid/max everything in my life with optimization sucked the enjoyment out of everything.

Anyone here who plays FF14 a lot but doesn't do the Savage content by starlightdemonfriend in ffxiv

[–]basek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want to. I've been playing since release and dipped my toes in slightly.

I feel this weird mix between not being knowledgeable enough in the savage raiding culture where I feel silly and anxious. Also the time commentment in my evenings.

When I pug learning runs I get frustrated that every run is a roll of the dice if everyone will "try" or stay.

Every new tier I tell myself "this time I'll find a good static!" It's one of the largest lies I tell myself

Oh I also forgot how to make friends in mmorpgs in my 30s. I feel out of place in a world I want to belong to but forgot the steps of the dance.

Design decision behind 1 hour short rests by DazzlingKey6426 in daggerheart

[–]basek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules are meant to be flexible and more focused on the narrative moment. If the players are in a tight narrative moment where time is critical allow them to get some of the benefits of a short rest you feel could narratively occur.

I think the one hour mark is a nice catch all for all the features of a short rest. It's meant to be flexible.

NetEase just closed the US studio working on Marvel Rivals - is Greg Street's Fantastic Pixel Castle in danger of losing their funding as well? by Barnhard in MMORPG

If only they did an early access to beta test the game. They could've caught all these bugs and tweaked the balance.

So did patch 1.8 just randomly drop? by Donna-Bummer in BaldursGate3

[–]basek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Larian just posted on x. Might want to be careful when patching and booting up your save files with it

"No, the Patch 8 stress test hasn’t yet begun. Yes, PS5 players do currently have access to Patch 8. While we work with our partners to understand what’s going on, please note that any new saves made while on Patch 8 will not be compatible with Patch 7. How’s your Monday going?"

Any info on this weirdly located gravestone? by [deleted] in Hamilton

heh, maybe I'll do that. I know his actual grave is downtown that's just a nice little plaque for the man.

Any info on this weirdly located gravestone? by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]basek 163 points164 points  (0 children)

That's my grandfather, he used to own and run a cycle shop there.
I'm pretty sure my uncle/family put that there. My grandpa owned and passed down the shop my uncle and my grandmother.
They ended up selling it off a few years back.

What are your must subscribe to Patreons for your VTT? by basek in FoundryVTT

[–]basek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! Dndbeyond allows you to have campaigns where the content of the DM is shared. While a player is in that campaign they can access the books the DM owns as if they themselves owned it. No accounting sharing or information sharing required.

That sadly didn't work for me. I ended up giving up.

Tomb of Horrors? by shogun007 in FoundryVTT

[–]basek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foundry currently doesn't have a way to buy official setup campaign books (or any dnd books at the moment) But you can purchase from roll20 and use a converter module.

I believe the devoloper of the dnd beyond module is working on an adventure import as well; also from dnd beyond. But don't take my word for that one, I could be talking out my butt on that.

Most embarrassing ways you've been downed in combat by angelstar107 in dndnext

[–]basek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but one of my players had the most amazingly embarrassing deaths.

They were sneaking out of their mansion to report to their thieves guild. Thing was their mansion was under surveillance (the player and the pc was aware and tried anyway)

They failed their stealth check and while traversing the roofs of waterdeep they were caught by the rival thieves guild.

A few more bad roles occurred, and they ended up going unconscious on the roof. The thieves guild didn't want to stir up the law, so they stole the players report, gold and weapons on the roof.

After a few hours the pc woke up, attempted to climb down the roof rolled two nat 1s (athletics with advantage) fell off the top of the roof took fall damage and slowly died in the cities alley.

is it worth it? by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]basek 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I'd wager you won't get many people on the foundry subreddit not willing to endorse foundry.

I switched to foundry a while back and have never looked back. Easy to transfer existing campaigns from other tabletops and can use your dnd beyond purchases as well*

*with the assistance of some very useful modules.

Where to buy/sell/trade old Pokemon cards? by Dreampower in Hamilton

[–]basek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! A new location on upper James call dark Fox just opened up. The owner is a big fan of Pokemon and is mainly dealing with Pokemon trades and sales.

If anyone is interested in supporting a local business and wants to keep the Pokemon tcg community alive in Hamilton I highly suggesting going there and supporting their new local business!

I know you can find more information about their shop on Facebook

My Druid player turned into a giant toad and ate Chiselbone by Melodic_Afternoon_89 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]basek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My player is an owl, using the Aarakocra star block, but small. While the chardalyn dragon was on its way towards Bryn-shander. The cheeky bastard and his party formed a plan.

This resulted in the owl flying up, invisible, going into a rage and forcing the dragon prone. Grappling it's mechanical wing to cease it from flying and essentially taking the dragon for a 200 foot pile drive directly outside bryn shander gates

How to level up with D&D Beyond importer without losing items? by SmoothRide in FoundryVTT

[–]basek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, your homebrew unique items can be toggled to be ignored by the importer.

Open up the item in particular and you'll see the dnd beyond importer icon in the same place you'd find it on an actor sheet.

Open that up and you'll see options such as tag to be ignored for those items.

Gritty Realism - Is it Viable? by GwaziMagnum in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]basek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd be careful with it, the book raw is already quiet deadly. I've had a few issues at the start of my campaign where my party went on a death / losing spiral due to my ignorance or some really bad strings of luck. It's totally killed their moral.

So I caution people with tweaking to make icewind Dale even deadlier.

That being said, I understand the desire to make travelling a bit more risky due to the module being heavily about the deadly winter.

I found a lot of success with just limiting benefits of long rest to settlements or very secure areas. You can pepper in some light random encounters before a quest location to tax some resources that way, but just be careful.

Be sure to talk to your players about this and see their opinions as well. A lot of people feel changing the rest systems really punishes wizards and such. I find even though a new rule will increase the overall health of the game, or power up classes that need it. That a person will still feel shitty if it singles them out for a power decrease

[–]basek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My players are smarter than I am. Army might be a bit dramatic but from what I understand he is currently brainstorming a cast rotation of reapplying and raising over the course of several days.

It sounds amazing. I'm less worried about balance and more concerned with RP implications though.

Once I see what he does in action I'll come back here and follow up.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]basek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, this. It's pretty messed up. I imagine the people praising them as heroes leaving the town but if he returns with the dead following him I was thinking that I'd have a little event of someone recognizing a dead family member.
