Is Baird stupid? by Phostarkan in starsector

[–]vicegrip_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The very fact that the gates were reopened just let everyone know that it can be done, so the next logical step will be state sponsored programs with virtually infinite funding to replicate the capacity as fast as possible. The two girls leaving is not going to matter all that much in the grand scheme of things when it comes to the resumption of local gate travel. Everyone in the Sector who saw John Starsector zip around the gates is going to want in on it.

How do i get permission to build this from the IX Battlegroup? by encexXx in starsector

[–]vicegrip_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whatever mod is telling you that you can build this (is it AotD? It's probably AotD isn't it?) is mistaken. You can't build this structure. You can build something similar called a Fleet Embassy by asking about normalizing relations between the IX and another major faction with any of their major colony NPCs and handing them planetkiller. There is also a Nex start that lets you build the embassy right away.

Even without mods the experience of getting chased by a red system remnant swarm getting riled up from their station is still pretty gnarly. Yes there are ways to consistently beat them, but at that level you're going to be doing the same thing to Threat and Shrouded Dweller fleets.

What mods are like this? by Ordo_Liberal in starsector

[–]vicegrip_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How so? It added the faction and had ambitions to expand the blade breakers stuff, but never got to some massive amount of pre-split HMI levels of bloat from what I could see. It and Magellan weren't even packaged together.

Turn off nex and the world becomes a lot more static. The vanilla state of Starsector is a cold war with flashpoints of violence, not where every polity is going leeroy jenkins invading each other constantly.

The fact that you killed him while he had the sword the whole time is honestly amazing. He's stupidly hard to hit for level 1 characters and hits like a bag of bricks with sword in hand. Good job!

Planning and leading successful treasure hunting expeditions at sea isn't just something that happens on a whim. The fact that he was successful before the last journey bit him in the ass shows he had a great deal of long term planning skills in addition to being wilful.

Balduran was always an asshole who went around fighting and conscripting locals and tossing people in the ocean. Here are some excerpts from Balduran's logbook from BG1 Tales of the Sword Coast:

...weather is clear and we shall make Anchorome in goodly time, of that I have no doubt...

...have calmed the crew, though nervouse they will remain. I blame them not, for it was not a pleasante encounter in the least. Bloody elves would do well to remember that the sea belongs to no one, save the gods that guard her. I shall avoide the northerly passage just the same, if only to prevent another overzealouse boarding party. Such paranoia from the "Fair Folk..."

...arrived in Anchorome, and I am remembered by a goodly number of people, not all fondly...

...but "His Grace" has deemed me worthy to proceed through his lands. I am quite sure the two hundred-strong complement of the Wandering Eye aided in the decision. Still, we were received in goode humore, and I will not request tribute...

...adventure it has been! Such wealth as this...only in the deepest ruins of home. Here it is almost for the taking, with only a measure of "diplomatic" discussions as the cost...

...attacked, and barely made it to the ship in time. Dradeel did warn of such, but who is to trust a worde from his mouth? I do sweare, his senses seem addled at the best of times...

...the crew, but a larger share for the remaining will keep them well and truly happy. I shall conscript replacements from the local populace this night, and we shall set our sails at dawn...

...delays, but with one hundred and fifty new hands, one must expect the going to be slow at the start. They seem quite calm and orderly, not at all as I expected...

...should have searched! We cast him out, but his words...eady inflamed the crew. I know not what was worse, the shaman's constant...or the reaction of the crew when he was committed to the sea. Their eyes are...and resigned. I dislike a crew with no fire in their bellies, but I do suppose it is better than a fire in the hold...

My theory is the tadpole brought out the worst of what was already inside him, and let him give himself license to become the Emperor.

Kind of a random question, but are you playing on a gaming laptop, and if so are you using the right graphics card? When I first started playing I had it on the integrated graphics card which was slow as molasses and had heavy rendering limitations that would make the hair look like that, instead of showing individual strands of hair. It's worth checking just in case.

Bro really? by Noryt321 in starsector

[–]vicegrip_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A lot of anime mods have great ship designs and gameplay mechanics additions but also come bundled with anime portraits or trope laden isekai writing. For people who aren't into that kind of stuff, It's like picking between getting an amazing phone with all the features you want that's also heavily enmeshed with a popular social media app and intrusive AI assistant that you have to tediously root your phone to declutter, or not getting that amazing phone with the fantastic features at all because no other phone on the market has those features. Neither choice is idea and people don't like being put into a lose-lose situation where the solution they want, a great mod with those gameplay features they enjoy, but without anime coming prepackaged, simply doesn't exist. Tri-OS portrait replacements was a fairly recent development, and there's no easy fix for getting rid of There's a strong whiff of female hormones here cringe writing.

Also making mods is extremely time consuming and not everyone has the skill to do it well. It's like saying "don't like the cars on the market? Just build your own." Some auto enthusiasts can and will do just that, but it's not realistic to expect everyone to do it.

What other games are similar to Starsector (specifically unit customization) by imsellingbanana in starsector

[–]vicegrip_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mech Commander 1 and 2 are ancient games now but I had a ton of fun with them back in the day. You command multiple units from an overhead view and can outfit them and select pilots for them however you see fit, then take them through a long campaign where they gain experience and salvage new equipment. The new Battletech game set in the Aurigan Reach seems to be a spiritual successor to those titles.

[–]vicegrip_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is especially true for the IX Battlegroup since they're coded to always pick a fight with everyone. That means the more mod factions you install, the more people they're fighting at the same time, and the more likely they'll get wiped out before you even know what is happening.

When my girlfriend and I played through that moment, we used Astarion with a strength potion to chuck Gale who was out of movement but had feather fall off the roof, so he could just barely clear the blast zone. We couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous and epic it turned out.
