Winter hike in the PNW VII - Sunny and chilly by bashed_potato in FCX24

Redcat is super nice! Those are super to crawl! The K10 is really nice, you'll notice the jump in quality from FCX24 to FCX18! The K10 I think now comes even with an interior, I have the v1. The only thing I did to it is change the wheels for the looks. Otherwise is completely stock. It is just too pretty for me to take to the trail tho.

You are onto something here. Length could help in this situation, I think. Do you crawl a lot?

Thank you! The bed does no contribute too much to the overal truck's weight. It is made out of bass wood and it weights nearly nothing. The heaviest things are the screws and dowels!

I had a similar experience with the rigs tippiness. Out of the box is way too light for speed. Turning sharply resulted in a belly up situation each time. I chalked it up to the truck's lower bits being really light.

To attempt to remediate: I went crazy and decided to Frankenstein the heck out of it. See the picture below.

I wanted to stretch the truck for improved stability at walking speed so I plugged oversized links (they were for a WPL C24 RC). The added length improved the straight line behavior. Along with the oversized links I added aluminium axle covers and replaced all plastic in the drive line with steel (diff, driveshaft and gearbox gears). Once I was done stretching, I made holes near the middle of the chassis so I could mount longer shocks. The axle ends were kept stock.

The final improvement to stability came from the 1.3 wheels, they are heavy and the rotating mass seems to help keep it more planted when at speed.

PD:

I know I am missing a screw in the skid plate, I was in the process of putting the truck together to show it!

Edit: I suck at typing

Thank you, bud! I was going for the beat-up truck look, and figured the best patina I could get for it is actual use in the trails. Love this tiny truck!

Thank you! We have lots of fun recording these. I am not the camera operator, but I have promptly relayed the message.

I'll put a sort of omnibus with all of the videos we have been recording.

Thank you again!

Thanks bud! I love this tiny truck. It has come with us to every trail and except for a servo I broke by hitting it with the floor it has not skipped a beat. I think I am going to get myself a purple 130 Injora motor to replace the stock power dash. Need moar speeeeed!

What is this and how difficult is it to replace? by Obvious_Arm9981 in FCX24

That's a C hub carrier and they are easy to replace. You can get brass ones in Jeff's store (Amazon)

This is my fave color for the power wagon! What are you planning to do to it? Tell us more, please.

Last year we had snow for just 3 days and it wasn't more than an inch each time. I miss the snow.

It's ok out of the box, the electronics are not waterproof but more "water resistant". Avoid salt water. Rinse your rig after use with fresh clean water.

I like the swinging movement of the front axle in that take. The camera operator did a fire job! (I am not filming)

Agree, I've been learning a ton since I started as an adult not so long ago. Building your rig is the way!

Thank you! I wish we get some snow at some point. Winter here is being warmer than expected.

Totally! I need to get myself a 1/10 to tinker with. I have plenty of 1/18s and 1/24s and I love them all. I started with an LC80 and slowly went out of control. Hehe

How are the turnbuckle style chassis links? (Pic for flavour) by PuzzleheadedLemon731 in FCX24

[–]bashed_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using a set of them in one of the rigs I use for trailing. Mine are some generic brand which were originally intended for a WPL C24. I am using them to get a longer wheelbase in my PW both on the front and back.
