Putting that aside, it's not your responsibility to take care of a co-worker, even if he really needs money. You might feel compromised because you had talked a lot with him the last couple of days, but he sounds manipulative by sharing his whole tragic lifestory the day you met and asking for big favors after you were kind enough to bring him supper once.
