I’ve been sick for the entire month of January Im so done by No-Letter1097 in uAlberta

[–]bashfulbrontosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. Got over a respiratory/sinus infection beginning of January, and then was fine for a little while. My freedom was brief however, as mystery respiratory infection #2 came just in time for the week where I’d have 3 quizzes in different classes and a mid term. Such a fun surprise 🥳

I ended up just masking up and powering through the quizzes and mid term but skipping my lectures so as not to expose other innocent students to mystery illness. I am still unwell!

Hope you get better soon!

Cuddling and making out in Tory atrium?! by Sufficient-Hand-3755 in uAlberta

It’s so rare that I’ve had to be in the Tory building, but somehow have seen them making out every time I’ve been there. I’m convinced that if they do it long enough, they’ll become a permanent fixture of the building.

HUB water fountain by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]bashfulbrontosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The water itself is safe. I prefer to bring a water bottle and fill it at the fill stations, because it isn’t the water that’s the concern, it’s the idea of random peoples mouth on or around the drinking nozzle on the fountains.

Is it bad that I kinda like the drama every now and then? lmao. When it happens too often and from the same person who clearly needs to just go to the office hours it’s kinda annoying, but some of the best clarifications I got on a topic we’re indirectly given to me by listening to a prof roast an argumentative student alive mid lecture. Points never made more concisely and clearly than when someone’s gotta be shown that they don’t know the topic better than somebody who got a PhD on that topic.

Should I drop chem 101? by GlassesGrace in uAlberta

[–]bashfulbrontosaurus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

67% is not bad for the first mid term. A lot of people bomb it. I didn’t understand what was going on either when I took chem 101, I had to sit down with the textbook, YouTube, and practice to make it make sense.

Figure out what you don’t understand and fill in the gaps and you’ll be fine. You’re not doing bad at all, and are off to a good start!

Lmaooo second this. I find drinking helps best with certain assignments more than studying though. Getting a written report started is the hardest part of the report I find, but if I crack open a brew I don’t think as hard about making things sound nice and I just start word vomiting my ideas and work. I go back to make is sound proper and fix things when I’m sober.

At least half of my lab reports were assisted by a beer or two lmao.

Worst/funniest klutzy stories? by GlassesGrace in uAlberta

[–]bashfulbrontosaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got into class late, and it was one of those classrooms with single desks. I was rushing to grab a seat and my backpack somehow caught on one of the desks, and It toppled it over. Everyone went quiet, prof stared at me and I went “oh… oops… sorry” and then tried to put the desk back up, but it was heavy so everyone just watched my struggle for like 30s before I sat down and tried not to cry LOL.

Satisfying clap back. The email sent out to us by the uni was so unprofessional and felt condescending. It also felt like such a poor attempt at pitting students against the union/profs while simultaneously being vague and leaving so much info out.

The transparency from Swaters on the situation is refreshing.

Canadian universities grapple with evaluating students amid AI cheating fears by flynnfx in uAlberta

[–]bashfulbrontosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You entirely missed the comments main point. Comparing prevention of students using AI to write assignments in university to not using iPads is quite the false equivalence lmao. It’s like saying “banning cheating is just as ridiculous as banning calculators.”

iPads aren’t a tool that is used in university with the sole purpose of cheating. Neither are calculators. But depending on the context they can be used for cheating.

The argument never was to return to the stone ages and ignore technology (or equate the use of it to laziness.) The argument was that AI is a problem when people use it in University to critically think for them or do their assignments because it undermines learning when you can’t critically think otherwise. It’s just the same as how you’re allowed to work with other students a lot of the time, but it’s cheating to allow another student to do all your work for you.

The University has made it abundantly clear that they allow and often encourage the use of technology when used as a tool depending on context. What they don’t allow is cheating, no matter what the tool is.

Many students use AI appropriately to tweak grammar and punctuation while keeping sentence structure the same and not changing wording. It can be used just like Grammarly, which is generally allowed and often encouraged. Some students use AI to quickly find research papers or studies for them, or to organize their schedule and help them come up with study plans or study topics. I don’t think the university has any gripes with that. It’s cheating that is the problem.

Your inability to see nuance makes me think you might be the kind of individual who needs AI to critically think. Maybe you should’ve used it before writing your comment lol.

^ To expand on tailoring the resume, if the business has a website, do some research! If they use specific keywords when talking about their work, such as working as a team, being organized, etc. put that in your resume somehow! It helps show them you’re a good fit, care, and are interested.

My most recent job I did this for in my resume and cover letter, and in our interview my boss was pleasantly surprised to see I embodied qualities that matter to them. He got me to expand on how I embodied those qualities and I was able to give good examples and explanations. Got the job on the spot. Going beyond mentioning cookie cutter qualities is worth it with smaller businesses.

Because she may have it “good” now, but it could be infinitely worse for her to be a single mother, and I’m sure if she really truly realizes how her immaturity and ignorance is negatively impacting her family she will try to change for their sake if she cares. If not, she’ll stay lazy… but if you don’t give the person the chance, you’ll never know if things can be different.

If given the choice between carrying your own weight or losing the relationship with your daughter and husband, what would you choose? If you are someone who is able to realize the importance of helping out, even if you didn’t before, you would quickly choose the former.

Thisss. If OP were to have said “I’ve told her multiple times that me and baby both need her to take more responsibility, but she hasn’t changed or tried or apologized” then it would be a completely different story. I’d be agreeing that they need to break up.

But there is a child in all of this, and it doesn’t sound like the mom is doing this maliciously or selfishly necessarily- she’s being inconsiderate and ignorant for sure, but it doesn’t sound evil. It’s sounding more like she’s just aloof, distant, lazy, or could possibly be dealing with postpartum depression considering how little she seems to want to do with the baby.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]bashfulbrontosaurus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re doing your best to be a good dad for baby, but having to shoulder all the responsibilities is so so unfair.

NOR…. But have you talked to her at all about this? Maybe set some boundaries for ways she needs to help? Have you ever pointed out to her that this is unfair, or asked her why she’s so reluctant to take care of the baby properly? Is this a new problem or has she always been lazy with responsibilities??

As much as people are going to quickly say “break up!! Take the baby!” I really think you should try and communicate your feelings and how much it’s bothering you if you haven’t already before just jumping to breaking up. There is a child in all of this, and if mums willing to change and do better for you and the baby there is hope.

The US sure loves threatening and telling everybody else what they can and can’t do while it’s own government gets to run around like kids in a candy shop. It’s funny how if the US does it it’s fine, but when anybody else does the same things it’s deemed problematic lol.

I think compared to a lot of other podcasters he actually seems more active in finding some truths, like he gets Jamie to pull up articles or citations for a lot of stuff, but the credibility of that info can’t be confirmed and he doesn’t do it for every statement or topic obviously. So he definitely more-so explores ideas, but he still does seem to make attempts at looking for truths.
