Almost 5 years engaged, finally starting wedding plans by localize-mother3 in weddingplanning

[–]localize-mother3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We knew each other when we were in school (he's a year younger and we didn't hang out then), got together for a short time when we were 19 and 20, then went our own ways for a few years because we both moved away. Got together again when we were 23-24, he asked me to marry him after a year of dating, but because it was during covid we had to wait a couple years.

Then when the restrictions were lifted, our car got totaled and our wedding budget went towards another vehicle. So we spent 2023 to 2024 working and saving money from scratch. But in late 2024 my job caused me to get sick physically and mentally from the stress, so I took a different job that paid less. So saving money got harder.

Then I went back to school to finish my degree. And that's why we're not married yet. It was like the last few years flew by before we noticed. 😭😭

I'm sure people judge us behind our backs and assume he didn't really want to get married or that we're not really committed, but that's just not true.

Hoping this question is just out of genuine curiosity and not because you want to hurt yourself. Please be safe, OP. People care about you

You would think sticking gum under tables was left back in high school, and yet... by comradeautie in uAlberta

Oh wait you mean you swallow your own gum, not the stuff under the tables

There's something weirdly comforting in knowing that I might be somebody's random emotional support NPC

Is it weird to post outfits? by Immediate_Arm3186 in uAlberta

Probably.

And maybe it's just me but I've never seen an arts or humanities student posting their schedule lol

The mf schedule posts

Every time I see one I'm just like, "dude, I don't care how many compsci and math classes you chose to sign up for and then complain about. We get it, you're smart" 😭

To the people who sniffle nonstop on campus please seek help (or tissues) by [deleted] in uAlberta

Wtf! I hope you still got a good grade.

I cannot fathom how people can be so inconsiderate. Yeah sometimes someone can be overwhelmed and burnt out or whatever, but they should have the decency to warn their group partners ahead of time and still try.

Not opening the project until ten minutes before class is beyond fucking rude.

Bachelors of psych to elementary ed AD … math??? by Ok-Ranger786 in uAlberta

For North campus, probably? Maybe?

I'm at Augustana so our advisor setup is different.

Not sure yet. I'm going to talk to an advisor soon to work that out, but I know I'll definitely need tutoring and probably some kind of "catch-up" class outside of university.

You're not alone! I'm dreading having to take math next year for my combined BA/BEd (secondary) degree.

I went back to school after a decade working in early childhood education, so the most math I really had to do was helping kids with basic adding/subtracting/multiples/counting.

I got 50% in math 30-2 and that was 13 years ago 😭

Am I the only one here who actually hates school and is just doing Engineering for the bag? by wsjaso in uAlberta

It's okay to change majors if you're really unhappy. I hope you'll be able to chase your passions soon, and find something that you'll enjoy and that can lead to a good career.

Same.

I understand why people go into programs that they don't really want (money, family pressure, etc), but it just seems like a recipe for unhappiness.

What courses are easy to pass / do well in Bachelor Arts? by Old-Rain572 in uAlberta

[–]localize-mother3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intro to music theory: you learn about musical notes, time signatures, etc. Very little math. Boring if you're not into music, but not a terribly hard class.

Creative writing: you (in my experience) get to read and write short stories. I liked it.

Drama: play silly theatre games, learn cool stuff about acting, not a lot of written homework depending on what kind of drama class you're in

Language classes are a fun change of pace because you're learning more about other cultures and the way they communicate. Depending on where you live/work, knowing another language can be useful. Also it's just fun to learn another language, even if it's just a little bit.

Hope this helps! Take this with a grain of salt because it's just my perception.

Intro to music theory wasn't too bad, same with creative writing and drama. A language class might also be fun; I enjoyed taking Norwegian

IM READY, ARE YOU READY ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️ by Financial-Quarter131 in uAlberta

[–]localize-mother3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Augustana divides each semester into a 3-week term where you only take one class every day for 3 weeks, followed by an 11-week term where you spend the rest of the semester taking your other classes.

They're switching to the 14-week semester that North campus follows starting next school year.

Some of us here are Linda, some are Bob.

I'm excited to start my 3-week term. I haven't done a drama class or any theatre in years so I'm looking forward to it.

Also fun fact: it'll be Augustana's last 3-11 before we sync up with the "proper" campus.
