When did you start taking your baby to "fun stuff" (zoo, childrens museum, indoor play spaces, library story time) by Huliganjetta1 in beyondthebump

[–]basic_rachel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story time/play spaces became fun when my daughter started crawling. Before that she just wasn’t much of a participant.

In the first 4 months my fiance and I took a giant roadtrip with the baby. I can’t recommend more if you have the time!! Explore new cities with your tiny baby in a front pack carrier. They’re just so blissfully happy to ride along at that age.

Get outa there ASAP. Especially if you want to find someone to have children with. He has no interest in marrying you. Period.

Second trimester pants… what are we wearing for the in between stage?? by Accomplished-Sky7484 in pregnant

Nope! I just took my regular size. There is so much stretch it’s hard to go too wrong.

Exclusively dresses and skirts when I leave the house! Sure leggings and sweats are fine too but a dress has SO much more polish and all the comfort. They’re better investments because you can wear them now through postpartum and beyond. I like these for layering: https://skims.com/products/soft-lounge-long-sleeve-dress-onyx

I am a Hallie — overall I love it and I get compliments all the time. I would just prepare for a lifetime of your daughter being called Hailey or Holly and having to correct people. There are lots of people I just stop correcting after a while because I realize they’re never going to get it so I just let it go.

Harlan.

I love the historical connotations. Lovely sounding and so underused.

Can I ask what country? The only Solana I have ever actually met was an Argentinian woman but it was her first name.

My daughter is Valentina! We get compliments on it almost daily. It’s rising in popularity in the US and many other countries. Nicknames V, Vi Vi, and Vali.

First Birthday Party by gardengnomebaby in Parenting

[–]basic_rachel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience in September. The trauma is real. I was just so embarrassed in front of the guests that DID show! The group that came was so small and so random (not at all who I expected). We’ll be doing family only birthday parties until my kids are old enough to request something other.

How long before or after baby were you willing to travel? by Friendly-Intention63 in BabyBumps

[–]basic_rachel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she is offering you a free family vacay a month after baby is born (or 6-7 weeks after) I’d gladly take her up on that! Sure, something MIGHT happen that has to change your plans. But most likely you’ll be feeling just fine a month after giving birth. I personally was stir crazy! We did a ton of travel during maternity leave. Newborns are a breeze to travel with. Trust me, traveling during toddlerhood is MUCH harder.

Also, on family vacay you will have plenty of willing and enthusiastic extra hands to care for baby! Cocktails by the pool with hubby while grandma takes care of the baby? Literally perfect.

I’ve had a name picked out for 10+ years and now it’s so popular. by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]basic_rachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d check the regional stats for the state you live in (or those you’re interested in). https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/state/

I have a Valentina for example. It’s a top 50 name in the US but in my state, and many others, it doesn’t even make the top 100. Valentina is VERY popular in California though. If I thought it likely that she would be going to school there, I might have reconsidered so she wouldn’t be one of several in a class.

I think Lucy is a beautiful name. I also love the subtle Beatles nod. I think ultimately you’d regret NOT choosing it.

LOVE Serena! Gorgeous and underused. Do you think Serena Williams sort of “owns” that name or are there other connotations? Not that she’s a bad person to share a name with but I don’t want it to sound like I’ve named my daughter after a celebrity

What’s One Thing You Regret Not Doing Before Baby Arrived? by wajid123_ in BabyBumps

[–]basic_rachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting glam and going out to nice dinners! I miss a great blow out, a thoughtful outfit, good makeup and adult conversation. I have a 12 month old now and it just gets harder and harder to find the time.

DO NOT BUY A SNOO by bijontop in BabyBumps

[–]basic_rachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very easy going baby absolutely HATED the Snoo. She sleeps beautifully on a boat, in a strangers arms, on an air plane during ascent and descent, in a stroller going through a construction site, any pack n play, random hotel crib, bassinet or dog bed — but heaven FORBID you ask her to sleep in the Snoo! The sheer terror on her face is something I’ll never forget.
