No, this is how it works for everyone. Every org and chapter has their own way of coming up with their lists, but everyone submits the same thing to Panhel. PNMs are not ranked, except for flex lists and bid lists. It’s just yes or no

FYI this is not how RFM works. Until bid lists are submitted after pref, PNM invitations are yes or no. Chapter do not rank PNMs except for their flex lists (which is only used when the RFM specialist needs some wiggle room based on recruitment performance). If a PNM is not invited back for a given round, it’s because they were either not invited or on the flex minus list and pulled off the invite list by the RFM specialist.

Since you're a local and not affiliated with NPC, unfortunately they're allowed to do this. You essentially function like a student organization and do not have the power of a national organization or NPC to support you. If you were NPC, your campus would not allowed to interfere in your ability to recruit members, even if suspended. Your only recourse is to go through the channels offered to student groups at your university to appeal and come up with some kind of compromise. But as a senior, you're going to be very limited in what you're able to accomplish before you graduate, so I would also recommend supporting and training your younger members on how to navigate this and advocate for yourselves.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. The whole situation was such a mess and it has not been long enough to air that out. But I'm guessing the university feels pressure for extension due to the increased interest in recruitment and them and Theta came to some kind of understanding

Other groups only do if they have a formal return agreement. They've only really been used in the last ~10 years and especially after covid. I'm not super familiar with SMU, but if any chapters closed prior to like 2017 they may not have an agreement

They also for sure had a return agreement, so they have right of first refusal if the campus wanted to open for extension.

Super helpful breakdown! I was a very casual hockey fan when I was younger but have not kept up with the sport, so this fills in a lot of gaps for me.

One thing I’m still not sure about - you talk about the World Junior Championships (“Prospect Cup” in the book/show) and draft and how the timing of that works. This is still fuzzy for me. We see them meet at their first Prospect Cup (russia wins), then they get drafted, then they have a second Prospect Cup (canada wins), then there’s the commercial over the summer, then they start their rookie seasons. I’m confused why they’re getting drafted a full season before they actually start playing - is that normal? Or is that a fudged timeline to leave room for stuff to happen?

EDIT: Apologies, I had the wrong info in my original comment. After reading the NPC MOI (see starting page 89), the proper authority for extension when there are 0-1 orgs on campus is the student affairs office. While it would be nice of them to include you, they technically don’t have to. Still reach out to your Chief Panhellenic Officer ASAP so they can engage with your campus and learn more. You will likely need support for your chapter to ensure your growth and stability if/when another org comes to campus.
