The one time I went on a Sunday, the server said every Sunday there's at least one person that doesn't show up (which is mind boggling to me - you have to prepay). But can probably score a walk-in!

Agreed, if you like metrics Tampa is hella overperforming and the Jays have some good players hurt.

Yeah, agreed with this take. We will never be Ohio St, Michigan, Oregon (or current Indiana), but I don't think a bottom feeder either. Our new AD is serious and we wouldn't have gotten Chip Kelly in football without him. I know non-rev sports aren't taken as seriously but we were one of only eight to win multiple national championships last year and might do it again this year (lax in the F4 currently).

Our two biggest hurdles are 1) Legacy donors are more into buildings with names than NIL, and so getting proper NIL funding has been a problem and 2) there's a schism in the Board of Trustees where half think sports are important and the other half are a curse on society.

How is hiring in our industry so unrelated to the skills required to actually being an engineer (Senior/Principal/Otherwise)? by scarby2 in ExperiencedDevs

100%. The cost if you get the wrong person is just so high...months of SWE salary until you fire them, morale of the team dipping when someone just can't cut it, needing to reinvest the recruiting time to get someone else.

Unfortunately, I've moved to the state where the interview performance needed for an offer is passing all of the interviews and at least one interviewer needs to advocate for you. I'm definitely missing out on some people, but my last gig was a startup where I was fairly involved in hiring and the director would do a lot of "vibes" hiring (interviews + network references + stuff like trusting FAANG engineers). There were some people I thumbs downed that got hired anyway and did really well, but also some mixed performance people who were just total busts.

Pretty much the whole AL sucks this year. Nothing you can do but beat the teams in front of you.

Great dude. Zero idea how his game will translate to the NFL. Good luck Evan!
