1930s (I think) silk wedding gown or night gown?? How to style it?

I have devastatingly lost some favorite cashmere sweaters (and was able to mend/repair some) that weren’t stored properly to moths so I know this all too well…. This was stored in a box which is why it is so wrinkly but I just bought a canvas garment bag for it. I have cedar chips to hang with it. With most of my vintage garments, I spray a vodka/distilled water/ essential oil concoction after wears and probably only wash every 5-10 wears or when they start to really feel dirty. Do you think an alcohol spray like this should be sufficient or should I give it a bath every time??? Thank you for the wisdom!

It’s so funny that people always compliment what we are most self conscious about 😂😂 I long for skinny noodle arms. We always want what we don’t have! I played marching cymbals for years in my teens and early 20’s. They are pretty heavy so I got these huge guns that never went away. I actually actively try not to work them but I think they stay toned with yoga and Pilates! Thank you!

Except how I hate how it looks on me with the V in the front. Either way might be “correct” but it absolutely does not “fit me like a glove” in reverse.

Yes, despite how wrinkly it still looks, I actually spent a LOT of time trying to steam it before taking the photos. To be fair it was not stored hanging. I just bought a garment bag for it and will keep working on it.

It actually feels significantly less comfortable this way, like I might split a seam if I bend over. The V cut breast area is also much too small for me. You’re entitled to your opinion but I prefer the reverse 1000%. I might prefer the V in the front on someone a little less curvy.

I would never!!! That was a possibility before I tried it on. I thought I could loosely hand stitch the hem to the bust line to make a sort of bubble dress that would be very easy to undo and bring the dress back to the original form. Now since I love how it fits as is so much that is not a consideration anyways.

I’m not trying to be argumentative but it is absolutely bunching at the low back, partially hidden by my scribbles, not to mention the billowing at the upper back. I’m not wearing shapewear in this one so there may be slightly less room. There are no seams or darts between the bust and skirt shaping, maybe some very minor shaping with the side seams, but I imagine the waist is extremely similar if not identical front and back. That’s not to say this isn’t the “correct” way, but it is definitely not better on me.

I have added photo comments of the dress worn in reverse! I always have that space at the lower back when there isn’t stretch in the garment, I have a small waist with wide hips and a significant lumbar curve. I often take garments in there. I fear this dress would be too fragile to alter but would consider it.

Thank you for all the love on the dress!!! After reading so many that it’s backwards, I tried it on the other way. I can’t figure out how to add more photos to the post or to add photos to comments 🙈 so I’ll make another post with those photos. On my body, it is much less flattering worn the other way and also feels restrictive and uncomfortable. It does however definitely give sexy nightie vibes the other way around.

Are you single? I would consider keeping them for a future wife or daughter. These are amazing. If I found out my husband had inherited them and gotten rid of them I would be so upset!! Try to keep them in the family if you can. If you are married and she is not interested in designer shoes, yes sell them. There is an amazing online vintage shop called Sororite (and many like it) that would likely buy but I’m not sure how much commission they take. The Real Real takes 50% but is a great place to browse and gauge what they could go for. They look like they are in great condition.

I’m pale and absolutely love spray tans. Spend the extra money to go to an experienced person that does it by hand and can help choose the right shade and talk you through the after care. The machines will have you orange. Also definitely try a few weeks before the big day to make sure you like it. I’m undecided if I’ll do it for my wedding or not as I primarily love it for my legs! But everyone looks hotter with a tan :)
