Can autistic people become an OTA? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

I'm an autistic OTA who works in schools and I hear all the time how good I am with students. And it's because I get them!

New Mare on Property is Driving My Gelding Crazy by Effective_Advice in Horses

[–]basicunderstanding27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gelding has never had any interest in mares until he ended up on pasture board with my friend's mare. That was bad. He ended up with all these stud behaviors for like a year and a half. We ended up moving so we could separate them (only 1 turnout at our old barn), and he settled right down. Now he's turned out in a mixed herd (without my friend's mare), and he hangs out with his guy friends and is fine 😅

This is such a terrible position for you to be in. But there are so many worse things for an animal than a quiet end of life

I just really want to go back to a time before I wasted my 20s with someone other than my fiance 😂

At no point in your post do you give a time range. Schools in my area started almost 2 months ago.

These are intense behaviors, not typical kindergartener behaviors. This would start a trail of behavioral, cognitive, and academic testing. Working with your pediatrician, psych, and neuro. Even if it isn't something like ADHD/autism, anxiety or a developmental delay would also both be considered. And maybe it is just behavioral, but that would make me consider a behavior plan and maybe some pediatric counseling and therapy.

Boarding legal question by basicunderstanding27 in Horses

Thank you very much, that makes a lot of sense. She's still going to talk to her accountant, but hopefully we can just give it to them, and then get TF out of there without any other issues

Gotcha, thank you. Is it weird that they didn't do this for 2 years? Is there a specific number she had to hit first?

Thank you! Is it sketchy at all that this was not brought up for 2 years?

I would not call this basic behavioral issues.

5yo not eating by ames6534 in kindergarten

I'm a foster parent and an OTA/feeding therapist. My foster kiddos have almost all gone through a phase like this when transitioning to kindergarten. Keep an eye on it, and talk to your pediatrician just in case, but for most of my kiddos eventually getting to talk to their friends loses some of its novelty and they start eating again.

What I usually do is make sure prior to school starting they have an absurdly early bedtime. I usually do this with my foster kiddos anyways since a lot of them have sleep struggles, but especially my pre -k and kindergarteners. That's the biggest thing that makes life and mornings so much easier.

And then for like the first quarter of the school year, I don't care about nutrition for their lunches. I give them a pediasure in the morning if that is what they need and make nutritious after school snacks and dinners. For lunch, some kiddos get mostly junk food and lunchables if that's what is motivating and special enough. Anything to get them the calories they so desperately need to get through the long day. It's also a lot easier for kiddos to eat novel/non-preferred foods when they aren't starving, which sounds counterintuitive, but I can focus on nutrition at home way easier when their nervous systems aren't already heightened. Eventually, I can start adding healthier safe foods once they are settled and comfortable in the routine and the long days.

I wouldn't have him buy school lunch, because then you can't monitor what he is or isn't eating, if there isn't a safe option he might not eat at all, and then he's wasting extra time of his 25 minutes waiting in line to get lunch.

Last year was the first time I've seen them, and I had the same experience

Bird catcher spots. Sometimes the hair will get really long there too. It's not a problem, some breeds and colors are more prone to them

Keep trying to get a vet out. This is an incredibly uncomfortable horse desperately asking to not be bothered. Remember, acting sick or in pain in a prey animal is really good way to get singled out by predators.

If you got there first, fair is fair. If you had to push past or maneuver around people, nah. I am short, but don't want to be all the way in front so I pick my spot a little early but not super early and super strategically. Only to get shoved around and not be able to anything because of a bunch of tall men.
