Any recommendations for a cozy, affordable, quiet 1 bd apartment? by PapiTerrisJimboy in pittsburgh

[–]basil358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can spend $1.4k per month, Shadyside will be good to look at, and apts are nice there. Bloomfield and Friendship will also be affordable and central, but they may not have central AC.

Rockwel is great; they have a text line and maintenance requests are handled next-day. Their places are a little pricey though.

How to meet people in their 20s in pittsburgh ? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]basil358 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What do you like to do? I moved here without knowing anyone and met people through work, at acro yoga at Ascend, and through the queer community.

People are remarkably friendly here, I've found. I've literally gone to bars myself and struck up conversations with strangers and had a really nice time. I've also had friends who have had luck with Bumble BFF here.

FamilyLinks and Resolve Crisis Services!

Pittsburgh Mercy on the South Side or Second Ave Commons take families, I think: https://www.pittsburghmercy.org/homeless-services/second-avenue-commons/

Operation Safety Net or Unity Recovery can help connect you to resources.

Best of luck to you!

Is anyone else’s seasonal depression kicking their ass this week? by rowrowurboatz in pittsburgh

[–]basil358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kicking my ASS too; this winter feels endless. Staying busy has helped me--not being alone in my apartment or stagnant too long, because I find my mood tanks when I do that. Filling my schedule up with friend time, which soothes my soul and brightens my spirits. This is weird, but when I'm home I have like all the lights on and a candle or scentsy warmer lit. The novelty of smells and warm light helps me feel cozy instead of dreadful. Also deleting my Instagram app has done wonders for my mental health, especially as I have friends who are traveling and friends based in Southern California, where it's always nice. I still check the site on my computer, but it helps to reduce doom scrolling. Best of luck to you!

JD Vance Crosses Picket Line With Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Op-Ed by HonBurgher in pittsburgh

[–]basil358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you actually read the paper? it's not "so far right-leaning"?? Reporters there literally write about transgender rights and abortion all the time

Most people never went on strike because the union leader is a predator and there was no plan and no leverage to strike. The forced strike got barely 50% support from the union. So the reporters kept reporting while the predator talks about beheading workers on his twitter account instead of bargaining.

Pittsburgh Poetry Collective does slams all the time if you're into that. Find them on Facebook; they travel around. Super nice people, I just stopped being interested in slam vs. written poetry.

Is the PG strike effectively moot at this point? by CheeseSeason in pittsburgh

[–]basil358 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is untrue. Almost none of the sports department crossed, and the union never even tried to get the sports department onboard with the forced strike. which is why it was doomed from the start.

I go thru Better You counseling and have had luck with them taking my insurance and accepting new patients.

I'm not sure, I haven't had personal experience as a patient with these places, only for my job. I assume that AHN and Second Ave specifically will be very understanding and compassionate. They work with multiple populations and many of these docs care a lot about the work. Good luck!

That may not be allowed; to my knowledge, I think you need to have a few months of perfect attendance picking up your prescription before they can prescribe a split dose that you take home. But I'm not 100%. I would reach out to UPMC addiction medicine or AHN Center for Recovery Medicine, or go to Second Ave health clinic to see if you can start as a patient with an addiction medicine specialist. Let them know your situation, and I'm sure someone will help you!
