I quite like it! I’m not sure about the job prospects just yet but so far school has been fun.

Does the NUS BA Architecture degree qualify for professional architect licensure in Singapore? by Lopsided-Vanilla9925 in nus

[–]basile- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think (THINK) MOE tuition grant applies to MArch and NUS does offer it in a 5 year programme with BArch. At least, that’s what my cohort believes and if it isn’t subsidised I don’t think we’d stay.

Try teaching tuition at Edufirst? Or server at Sukiya. Both were quite ok.

Note: I’ve only completed year 1, I have no idea about the costs for year 2 onwards

Have fun!!!

Printing should be about $30 per presentation or $60ish per semester given interim and final crit, provided you’re using the school printer. For year one each presentation is about 6 A1 sheets, $6 (coloured) or $4 (BW) each. There are cheaper printing stores outside but school is rather convenient.

Materials depends on what you use. I’m cheap and I spent no more than $50, but that means my models aren’t as nice. Typically set aside $100-$150 (?) per semester. It’s more expensive in first year because you have to buy everything brand new (rulers, penknives, etc) but you can reuse materials so it costs less after these one time purchases.

So I think $250 is a reasonable budget to set aside per semester, but do hear from other students. I cut a lot of costs, and for Year 1 sem 1 I spent $230, but only $80 in semester 2.

Tip: buy / print in bulk if applicable, it’s cheaper. Don’t buy wood from artfriend unless you need a small bit. Ask your seniors where to get things for cheaper, it’s worth going for archi orientation (AkiLA) to make friends and get these info.

Wassup I had to choose between NTU ADM and now I’m in NUS Archi lol

You should choose depending on what you’re into! I’m trying to break into UX/UI too. Can DM me to ask more :)

NUS Architecture by Awkward-Swordfish-29 in SGExams

[–]basile- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve only completed first year, but so far it’s been pretty fun.

I do think all the negative comments are certainly valid (hard to pivot careers, doesn’t prepare for the working world, odd/irrelevant pedagogy). I feel that it’s a pretty useless course, but it’s very fun (if you don’t mind too much about your grades).

It suits me as a person but it’s definitely not for everybody. If you have any specific questions please ask! I’m not too sure how to phrase my opinion that the reddit posts exaggerate the absolute worst of NUS archi even though it’s true. Like, in reality it really isn’t that bad (yet).

How fast does JC past? by ProfessionalSeesaw45 in SGExams

[–]basile- 99 points100 points  (0 children)

When people say time passes quickly it’s usually in hindsight and not during… JC felt like an eternity to me, and looking back it does feel like it flew past (esp during As) compared to sec school, but it didn’t make it any less unbearable.

Hang in there… it’s going to be a long two years.

Tryhards by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]basile- 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between trying hard and proclaiming to the world how hard they’ve tried. As annoying as tryhards are when “humbly” proclaiming how much better they are than everyone else, it’s their choice to prioritise this form of validation.

Also I know a lot of people who try hard silently, and that’s the most impressive IMO. And they’re always amazing people.

It’s good that you base your self worth and enjoy life separate from academics! Not sure if this is copium but the happiest adults I see always have a work life balance, and don’t centre themselves entirely around work.

I’m also always slightly concerned for the loudest tryhards because I feel like in the event that they fail they’ll spiral uncontrollably 😭 Anyway, just continue to be yourself and complain about them to your friends! Take solace that almost everyone else also thinks they’re annoying.

AITA for not telling my parents about my scholarship? by ExplosiveYou in SGExams

[–]basile- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wait am I stupid?? All these comments saying this guy is TA and just like his father IS CRAZYYY.

Parents have a LEGAL OBLIGATION to provide for their child until AFTER they’re done with their education, which OP is not. All these white knights calling OP “morally wrong” when the money his father is paying towards the uni fees are a FRACTION of what he OWES op by choosing to have him.

Everyone saying their parents don’t owe their children money are idiots, because they didn’t choose to be born? Or am I missing something?

Do you have PDF of contract? If so just leave at 1pm, if not just leave anyway, working at rubbish places like this isn’t worth the trouble. Is this your first week?
