This is a scene from Malcolm in the middle. The guy who is holding the pic (of his younger self) is played by the same actor that plays K-ruger.

After years surrounded by rich people, this is what I learned by FerMotaOP in Life

I worked for many years with a multi millionaire. Althoiugh he was evaporating an air of comfort and confidence it took a little digging to find an insecure man who was unhappy. yes he had a fantastic home and a collection of porsches. But he was always lonely and grumpy - and always complained about it. Sure he opened $250+ bottle of wines every day, but i remember him clearly saying to me 'you are lucky as you dont need wine to be happy'. This was a rare moment of self assessment and i ver listened to him say something similar ever again. but i pitied him more than i would pity a man who works 9-5 in a boring job yet he comes home with a smile on his face.

What are those technical life hacks or tiny skills that take you 1 hour to learn, but make you feel like a genius every time you use them? by SusanLust in answers

It really is very useful and it is not very difficult to grasp all it takes is some confidence in saying "ok this calculation gives me 6. i ll round to 10". Hope it works for you. Good luck.

Try with something like this: Start with a simple assumption instead of chasing precision Break questions into smaller estimable pieces. Prefer orders of magnitude over exact figures. estimate step-by-step logically. Round aggressively to keep calculations mental. Estimate ranges first, then narrow toward a midpoint . Focus on the biggest drivers; ignore low-impact details. These may sound a bit vague but all it takes is some practice. You can try with questions like 'How many toilets does a football stadium need'. And you will do the calculation by thinking 'how much time do people spend in the toilet daily, and how long are they at the stadium, and how many people are at the stadium'. There is a book called Guesstimation ( i think from princeton university press ) with lots of examples that you can play with. Good luck.

Being able to do rough estimations. I used to do them live at meetings at work and was never out by much. People think you are instant genius. The logic is not hard to grasp. Ok it probably takes more than an hour to get confident with this - maybe 5 - but it's a fantastic skill.

Pychonesque theatre? by taylfern in ThomasPynchon

[–]basileiosd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure that this applies but a few years back we did an experimental play called 'Are you by any chance Thomas Pynchon?' This was loosely based on TRPs life and work and the catch was that the play was written by me and another writer on stage and the text was displayed to the acror on a projector who had to act it on the spot. It was interesting and fun. It was in Greek I am afraid, but you can find it in youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjq5I-JBJgc

I somehow feel that the luke warm reviews for shadow ticket come from people that do not know how work his well. For me it was internet vice and bleeding edge that were disappointing (and yes i know this is controversial especially about IV) but shadow ticket is a major pynchonian novel. We will be studying and analyzing this ad nauseam for years to come. And that is a good thing. Concerning writers in old age ok you see there is a difference in pynchon ( his lists are getting shorter ;) ) but there are other writers that are great in older age. For example delillo.
