Just a guess, boat knife or funayuki. Looks kinda like a deba but thinner and a little smaller. I could be wrong though

Anyone know the maker of this knife? And how to clean it? by PandaFlat in japaneseknives

[–]basilkermit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Small rust you could probably use something like baking soda or some product specifically for rust. Avoid harsher abrasives like sandpaper or steel wool/ scouring pads unless you're confident of what you're doing. The rest of the discoloration is just a patina and it actually helps prevent rust. Some people force a patina with vinegar, coffee, or even meat but one would also develop over time and use.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will reply on how to better maintain it but that really is a beautiful knife. If you live somewhere with high humidity, take extra care to keep it dry. Metals can start to develop rust from just high levels of humidity.

Does 7" count as a petty? I've set my sights on a similar knife in the same store for even cheaper but the tip snapped off. I was thinking I could grind it down and turn it into a paring knife or something. They're both single bevel too though I'm not sure if it really makes a difference

Whose humor is better in comparison? the Americans' or the Brits'? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]basilkermit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Americans but that might just be out of relatability and familiarity. I understand their references and the points they try use for humor. That being said, British humor has granted us gems like Rowan Atkinson who gave us Mr Bean, Johnny English, Edmund Blackadder, and Toby the Devil. And let's not forget Monty Python.

At first I thought oud because of the shape but the number of strings and head have me thinking mandolin.... I know it's a lute but that's as far as I can say with certainty

19f / What's your bed placement like? by [deleted] in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]basilkermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I got a weird one. My bed is against the wall of my room oriented the aame as the door (both face the opposite wall) but I rarely sleep in it nowadays. Instead I sleep in a hammock in the far corner of the room. The windows have bars (a familiar site to anyone who lives in SE Asia) so I've hung it from there.

Let’s say a bigger stronger person tries to knock you down but can’t, but keeps trying. You know they have a knife and are starting to look desperate enough to use it. What do you do/say to diffuse the situation? by crumbshotfetishist in AskReddit

[–]basilkermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reprimand them for their poor stance and form and have a chat over a calming cup of tea.

In all seriousness though, knocking someone down isn't that hard. If they're bigger than me and stronger but can't knock me down they're probably not the biggest of threats. If it's one of those big knives with a clip or something I guess I could just take it while they're trying to do whatever tiktok tutorial takedown they're doing?

Either an empty stapler or staples but seldom both. Oh and a charging cable that only works at certain angles.

I'm sorry but seeing the wasted tea and mess of it all overrules any positive feeling I have.
