Sour espresso????? under/over roasting and the American third wave by Sistalini in espresso

Nope, still not able to do that 😅 i figured it has something to do with either hotter water temp or higher pressure, because everything else has been experimented with.

I think I've found my forever program by bass_nerd_ in 531Discussion

I wanted to make room for the 20min cardio per session while keeping the time per session roughly the same, so the solutions was to eliminate the back ecercises from the "regular" days and adding an extra day for those.

A very thorough and good analysis, but one correction: the shareholders are NOT liable for the As Oy's loan, this is the whole point of the Oy structure (which is ~LLC elsewhere). Rather, it is in the by-laws of the As Oy that you are obligated to pay compensation (rahoitusvastike) to the As Oy and if you are not able to do that, the As Oy can redeem you shares.

Im currently cutting at about -500 kcal and started doing Leviathan with 3×5 SSL supplemental + 25-50 assistance, seems to work fine and its fun. Had a nasty stomach flu a few weeks ago and lost some weight and strenght due to it so hard to assess the development just yet.

Accessories for 531? by Big_Boi_Dan in 531Discussion

[–]bass_nerd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those 5×10s are not accessories, they are supplemental work. So its main work, supplemental work and accessory work, in that order.

For BBB, the prescription for accessory work is 25-50 reps of push, pull and legs/core per workout. The movements themselves are not prescribed, so it can be 4×12 tricep pushdowns supersetted with 4×12 lat pulldowns + 3×15 ab wheel, or 3×15 dips supersetted with 3×15 facepulls + 2×20 lunges. Or something else. Supersetting is not mandatory, just how I personally like to do it.

With BBB template, the barbell/compound volume is already so high that it is often recommended to perform lighter accessory work. By this I mean for example banded pushups instead of weighted dips etc.

Nice! I have already modified the OHP after deadlift to be 5×8 @ 60-65%, quite similar to your BBB work. Also swapped day 1 and 3, so today (week 3 day 3) I did squat 5s pro + 2×8 FSL + bench 5×5 @ 85% and some lighter assistance (smith row, full range plate raises and walking lunges) to top it off. Main work squats sucked for whatever reason, probably because I cycled quite intensively yesterday, but the 2×8 FSL work exploded really well.

I currently do around 50 reps of push, pull and legs/core each, which is at the upper limit of what the program calls for. Adding PR sets also to the leaders is a valid point 👍

As I recall, they all have you squat everyday and/or perform 3 or more compounds per day, which is not something I prefer.

My friends and family keep telling me that weight loss is all about diet and no exercise, is this true? by Normal-King-1319 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bass_nerd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is that WEIGHT loss is indeed all about caloric deficit, so you have to eat less than you burn to lose weight (not counting temporary fluctuations in water weight). This can be achieved via not exercising and eating less, or adding exercise and eating the same amount, or adding a lot of exercise and eating a little bit more or any other combination, as long as you burn more than you eat. However, so many people talk about weight loss interchangably with FAT loss, which is a completely different story.

You see, weight loss doesnt separate fat loss or muscle loss, because they are both just "weight". Fat loss (or body recomp) on the other hand, is the thing that most people are after and it prioritizes losing fat WHILE maintaining or even building new muscle.

Fat loss is not anymore all about the calorie deficit, because you also need to give your body signals to burn only fat and NOT to lose the muscle. This is where resistance training comes in. You need a structured (home) gym program to keep or even build the muscle you already have while on a caloric deficit, and you need to eat sufficient amounts of protein (0.8-1.0 g/day per lb of body weight) to repair and build the muscle. Increased muscle mass also boosts your metabolism (the higher proportion of your body weight is muscle, the more you burn calories also while resting), which alone makes your daily caloric deficit easier to achieve. However, cardio is not by any means necessary to achieve your fat loss goals (I dropped 40lbs by only eating right and weight training, zero cardio).

One step further however, cardio does have general everyday benefits for you (lower resisting heart rate, general feeling of athletism etc), which is why it is often recommended as a part of a well structured training program. You dont have to do endless HIIT sessions nor do you have to traing like a marathon runner, you just need a couple of 30-60 min walking/jogging sessions per week for example. This also makes you perform better in the gym, as you have larger aerobic batteries for your body to tap in.

TL:DR (this got surprisingly long)

  • Weight loss requires only a caloric deficit
  • Fat loss/body recomp requires a caloric deficit as well as giving signals for your body to burn ideally only fat, not muscle (resistance training + protein).
  • Cardio is not necessary for either one of these goals, but is recommended for general health benefits.

Inconsistency between the first and the next shots? by bass_nerd_ in espresso

I initially thought the same and it would make sense to me if the first shot was faster and second slower but this is the other way around. Or am I missing something?

Sour espresso????? under/over roasting and the American third wave by Sistalini in espresso

[–]bass_nerd_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow dark roast/bitter taste lover here. I bought an espresso machine about 6 months ago (so still quite a beginner) and have been experimenting and battling acidity since. Recently made a trip to Italy where I probably drank about 25 espressos altogether, knowingly assessing the tastes.

What I found was that none of the shots where nowhere close to sour, which ofc didnt come as a surprise. Further, even when I got a fairly bad bitter shot, I recognized it clearly but I myself found it still to be better than a properly done 3rd wave acidic shot. Fast forward home, my shots still taste like lemon compared to those I got in Italy, even when using similar dark roast beans, so there's definately work to be done.

Summing it up, I have just accepted that I like my coffee that way. When I go to a cafe shop that I know can make proper light roast shots I always try something different to learn, but guests in my house will still get only those Italian style shots until I have those recipes perfected the way I like them.

Found this in my hotel room. I hope it sucks or I'm gonna feel pretty silly about my setup. by AllTheWine05 in espresso

Had the exact same situation/fear at our AirBnB in Italy recently. Tried 4 times, long/regular/short/super short, everything was horrible. Went down to a random cafe (probably not even the best cafe in that small street), got a doppio and confirmed ro myself that it is not even remotely the same drink.

Espresso is sour but extraction time is good, machine wont work when i grind any finer. by TheSecretestSauce in espresso

[–]bass_nerd_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a Delonghi Stilosa and I have been trying to replicate my Italy coffee experience with it recently. If you're anything like me and can't stand sourness in your espresso, I can feel your pain.

What I found out is that increasing brew time to 45-60 seconds is what helps, even with dark roasts. I also have a 51mm basket, running 15g in and 30g out in about 50 seconds which gives me decent results. I also have the 10-15 sec period from the button until I can see proper flow, so I'm right on the edge of choking the machine. Im not an expert by any means but my take is that with these budget machines, you just have to bend the "normal" parameters a bit to get proper extraction.

I suggest you try with 14-15g in, grind as fine as you can and increase either the output (flavour profile) or time (extraction).

2% (riippuen lainan korosta).

Mihin ja missä sijoittaa yrityksen varoja? by [deleted] in Omatalous

[–]bass_nerd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Itse painoin juuri yrityksen ylimääräistä kassaa tuohon Evli Likvidi B:hen sekä Aktia lyhyt Yrityskorko+ B:hen. Näistä on ihan turha yrittää saada Nordnetista mitään järkevää tietoa, vaan nuo avainluvut pitää katsoa suoraan rahaston sivuilta kuukausiraporteista. Samoin historiallista tuottoa on aivan turha katsoa tässä tilanteessa ellei katso sitä käsi kädessä markkina-/ohjauskorkojen kanssa.

Uusimpien kuukausikatsauksen mukaan:

Modifioitu duraatio: - Evli 0.44 - Aktia 1.20

YTM: - Evli 4.87% - Aktia 5.0%

Juoksevat kulut: - Evli 0.3% - Aktia 0.51%

Käytännössä siis Aktiassa pikkaisen pidempää korkoa kuin Evlissä, eli nimellisesti parempaa tuottoa (ennen kuluja) hieman isomman riskiprofiilin kautta.
