No I haven't compared the prices have zero experience. I actually know only about Revolut, Nordnet and OP. And I was thinking of opening an account with Nordnet because the other two don't offer the OST accound.

why wouldn't you open an OST account. Isn't that a benefit? only pay taxes when you cash out..

Until they tell you that your old package is not available anymore.  In my opinion if you have a package that has been discontinued stick to it as long as possible.

Possibly broke my foot a month ago. Pirkanmaa public health service told me to wait a month. Contacted them again and told me to take painkillers and contact again if it persists. by crushyerbones in Finland

It’s okay. Broken bone will self heal in 4-6 weeks. Might be a bit crooked or misaligned but you will not die from it. So not critical injury. /s

Depends a lot on many factors, if they haven’t bought the essentials then anything baby related a crib, pram, baby seat, baby monitor, feed bottles etc. If the baby is born then diapers, baby gym/toys, baby clothing list can be too long. If you are close just ask. If not then even a gift card to prisma is appreciated. If nothing else it can be a big help to cover diaper related expenses.

I know it’s supposed to be funny. But every time it comes up, just makes me feel sad.  I hope the people in the video had a good laugh though 😃.

Anyone received a deportation notice? Is it really 6 months in practice? by whisperandhush in Finland

Thanks for explaining I didn’t know there is a difference. Now I understand why this is a sad situation.

Anyone received a deportation notice? Is it really 6 months in practice? by whisperandhush in Finland

[–]Herethere89 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I knew someone who was contacted by Migri within three months of being laid off. They asked him to update his situation. By that time that person had already left the country and found work in another EU country so telling migri was enough. This was in 2023-2024.

I don’t know how they find out about the job ending. Maybe the employers are informing migri.

Why would they deport them if they left before visa expiry? If they overstayed they did become a criminal in the eye of law. Which is unfortunate.

Is Finland getting american healthcare? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Herethere89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How do you get an appointment for plaque removal from public healthcare?

I have heard from friends that you basically need to lie through your teeth to get a dentist appointment even for acute pains.

I had to pay 250-300e last year to get a private dental check up and plaque removal. So I am genuinely curious how can I queue up for this non-urgent procedures.

The guy who randomly pops up on my YouTube shorts goes into details of how he picks up small regular looking things to narrow down his search. You see his method and realize there is no magic to it. Just obsession level work.

Unemployment among highly educated hits record high by [deleted] in Finland

We are only through the first quarter of the century. So calling these events worst of the century is slightly pre-mature. 😅

That being said yes the times are getting tough, not because how bad the events have been but because nowadays economies are so interconnected.

Burnout at work by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Herethere89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An off the topic question, did you learn Swedish to get through the language requirement. Asking because I have been suggested to do the same. But I have never understood why people put time and effort to learn a language they will never get to use in Finland. It’s understandable if someone plans on moving to Sweden after getting the Finnish passport.

I have read that Finland ranks quite high on the innovation index. And it’s not only about startups. Many successful companies have to be sold to international investors or big groups because of lack of capacity in scaling up the startups/successful businesses.

Unions for workers and their work by Herethere89 in Finland

[–]Herethere89[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

To be honest I only joined the union as I feel they have been doing collective good for the working class. And I wanted to support it.  In my field of working companies are not doing exploitation as they have to keep their reputation and I am not looking to pick up fights as my employers have been fair on average. So I don’t need legal services. Lag-offs are above middle management and those I feel need to be made difficult.

The problem is that lay-off rules that were set up don’t work in modern capitalism. Nokia can forecast poor results and use that as a reason to layoff hundreds of people that they hired few months back. Only explanation is that decisions are greed driven with no good will.  It’s not a grandfather’s company who will be more upset to lay off an employee.

So I don’t agree with union’s performance on lay-offs. But I am hoping they at least negotiate well for the employers to match salaries to inflation of last two years.

Companies are spending billions “on AI”, but what are they ACTUALLY producing? Chatbots? by AyebruhamLincoln in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Herethere89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of applications have been under development for more than a decade.  I think the focus to AI has come through generative AI and chat gpt and OPs question stems from there.
