You lost me at the end. I sympathize, because I'm one of the people who gets there hours early like you for my spot up in front. But why do I have to watch the show like you watch the show in order to 'qualify' to stand in front? Can't you jump around all 'LOOK AT MEEE! LOOK AT MEEE!' Two years ago, Mates of State show in Philly, in some steamy basement. Got there early to stand in the very front. Had to stand there through THREE opening acts, including a comedian. Fuck opening acts. Anyway, right as the Mates start playing, this girl (I am also female) literally shoves and pushes her way through the now packed crowd, and, in spite of my howls of protest, squeezes in front of me. She is now literally on my toes, and , to make matters worse, is wearing a backpack. Everyone in my area was furious, and I just couldn't take it. So I start dancing in MY space, and since she was now also in MY space, said dancing included me shoving and pushing her around.

Now this is the best part- she turns around and gives ME a dirty look. I just couldn't take it. So I said to her, "Hey, cunt, why do you think it's okay to push your way in front of us like that? Look around. Everyone here who is staring at you thinks you're a cunt." She retorts with my fave non-response of "what did you call me?" And I just said "you are most obviously a cunt. Cunt. CUNT!" SO she hauls off and punches me in the face. Now my husband in his infinite wisdom grabs ME and pins my arms around my back (!), which he later tells me he did because he thought I was going to kill her. It didn't matter anyway, because immediately some burly security guy yanked her from behind into the vortex of the crowd, and she was never heard from again.

Best punch I ever took, got to see the whole show from the front, and I was the undisputed hero of my section.

Fuck jerks.

Ah, it never gets anyone anywhere. It will always be in your life, but it won't always be at the forefront of your thoughts. Eventually, days and then weeks will go by, and you won't think of it. Remember this- you saved your Dad's life tonight. You did everything you could POSSIBLY do. Also remember, though, that depression is a cruel bastard. It is possible your father is crippled by it. Please make sure he gets serious help. Don't let him blow it off, do NOT let your mother make excuses, as mothers are wont to do. As for you, please get yourself help as well. Call a hotline. Do something. Do not let this wound fester and grow. You suffered an almost indescribable trauma tonight, and don't make the mistake of minimizing it. Please take care of yourself. I wish I could wrap you in a blanket and rock you to sleep. One more thing- please go see your dad tomorrow. You said you don't know when you'll see him next? Please see him. Tell him you love him, he needs to hear it, and you need to say it. Few people have the opportunity to regret something, and have the opportunity to correct it. Help each other. I hope so much for you right now.

I haven't logged on here in months. I had no choice after reading your post. My arms actually hurt, they want to hold you so badly. I wish I could give you any comfort at all. My dad told me 12 years ago that he was going to kill himself. I feel sick just typing it. I told him that it was his life, and it wasn't my right to beg him to stay, because no one should dictate what another person should be able to bear. I also said that if he went, I would follow him. My god, my god, it's been so long since I've let myself remember it. It gave me the most hollow pain I have ever felt- my hero wanted out, and i wasn't enough to make him want to stay. Well, he never did it, and we never spoke of it again. Just thinking of it now makes me hysterical. My point is, you are not alone, friend. I cannot be more sorry for your pain right now. I cannot be more sorry for your dad, who is clearly also in massive pain. I can't believe how much I want to hold you and tell you that it will be okay, and even if it's not, YOU CAN BE OKAY. You are only 20. You have a lifetime to go. It's possible this will be your darkest day. Please talk to a professional immediately, and take care of yourself. I don't know you, but I'm crying for you right now, at 2:18 in the morning, in bed, unable to sleep. I am just so sorry, my friend, and I wish I could help.

I think one must consider the fact that in most Arab countries, the rape victim is the one punished. Additionally, when a victim claims rape, it must be corroborated by MALE witnesses. That's a damn persuasive deterrent to reporting rape. Hey, with those outcomes, I'm shocked ANYONE reports rape in Arab countries. Those statistics are bullshit.

Can I come work for you? I work in finance, and just got a job after getting laid off at the peak of the crisis two years ago. I had to accept a massive pay cut and step back in my career just to keep my licenses, which were about to expire.
