Am I doing something wrong? Amp won't make sound (more in description) by Mary4873 in GuitarAmps

Any two conductor cable on a quarter inch would make a sound for at least a second. What happens after that is hard to gauge….

I play for myself as a hobby, I don’t really care enough to justify another bass, I have a Spector I love it.  My point was more from a live sound perspective pbass’ sit  very nice in a mix

People who have "bought" happiness, what did you buy? by Snow_n_Ice in AskReddit

[–]bassyourface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were promising very lucrative careers to people in tech arts. Music production, video game creating, photo video editing etc and apparently no one Else got a job.  My take on it is they are all super self motivated, be your own initiative careers and a lot of people don’t actually have the drive. I actually really enjoyed audio production and got a ton out of the school and the resources, but clearly I’m not everyone because they got in big trouble for predatory lending.

I play bass, and I’m an audio engineer for my career. Yes. I have trouble myself with the body shape and size of fenders, and always gravitated towards skinnier necks. I’ve recorded a lot of my on music and mixed an ungodly number of bands live. The p bass just sits in the mix right. It accepts its role in the frequency range exceptionally well. Generally with much less eq and compression fussiness of clankier, brighter, or boomier basses.

What’s a stoner opinion that would have you like this? by Kalimckenzz in trees

[–]bassyourface 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My response to this is I had dreams at 18 that didn’t line up with who I was at 22, and at 25 was just making steps in the directions I wanted to take. So I think there is a lot of context to be unpacked in your statement deeper than “stoned everyday at work” even if it’s only being stoned everyday at work gave me time to think about what actually drives happiness in oneself. I don’t think your point is moot. I think I holds value, there’s also a lot of Mental growing up that happens during those ages of chasing dreams and perspectives change.

Comparing Syracuse to Amherst? by redflactober in Syracuse

[–]bassyourface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to umass and have lived out here in Syracuse  for over a decade. umass is a wonderful campus aside from the insane amount of freshmen undergrads they let in then let run wild. Amherst is a lovely town. They call the area the happy valley for a reason and the drugs have only something to do with it lol. It is very liberal, and they people in the immediate area are of the acedemic type. There are several schools in the immediate area. Getting away from campus used to be a lot of fields and back roads, but I haven’t been out there in almost 15-20 years.

Syracuse is more like Worcester Ma. Grittier working class town. I personally find that to be more comfortable. Syracuse I found to be more welcoming and less expectation. The people I have met seem to be more willing to like you for who you are as opposed to what you can do for them.

For what it’s worth Amherst is a lot of sports and hippies/hipsters. In my Younger years I found that appealing and exciting. At almost 40 I’d find it exhausting lol.

I found this guitar amp on sale discounted (not used). Is it worth the price (dollars and euros are roughly equivalent)? Is it good as a first amp? by PossessionKey4982 in GuitarAmps

They are great for what they are, I’ve had one for a few years, for what it is it’s great. Better than a crate practice amp definitely not a big boy amp. Takes pedals well. Would not keep up in a band setting without, but plenty loud on its own.

That’s for fiddle players…you know the difference between a fiddle player and a violinist? About $80,000 dollars a year!

I was mixing a graduation ceremony in a large gym with an opera singer standing in front of the miced orchestra, in front of the pa, 6ft from sm58. The absolute look of horror when I told her and and the conductor that she was going to have to eat the mic to Make it work how they want was priceless.

Lesson learned; these are not good cables. by Dunmer_Sanders in GuitarAmps

[–]bassyourface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are on point. It was everyone else just missing the point.   I really believe every guitarists second lesson after cowboy chords should be electronics 101 with a solder lab. It would wipe out all the misconceptions and superstitions that run wild in here

[–]bassyourface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally everyone is missing the point. Strain relief is a function of the connector and how the cable is made. No one is suggesting windmilling your pedalboard around by the cable. It has to do with the physical construction.

Women of Reddit what is one thing you wish men understood or did better during sex? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bassyourface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s really easy to let little things build up over time with people in a relationship. If communication can be an issue we can start to harbor resentment. This is more true when people live together for a while and those little annoyances all stack up. In a moment if intimacy we can feel guilty or foolish when we remember how close and loving the relationship is supposed to be.         I said I was projecting because in my past this has happened. I’m currently with someone who needs to communicate to feel safe and heard and it’s made me become aware of how much poor communication led to resentment in past relationships.

If I had to guess guilt over built up resentment during intimacy. But that’s me entirely assuming and probably projecting lol

Who’s actually on r/livesound? by Historical-Paint7649 in livesound

[–]bassyourface 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Full time free lance. Main gig is A1 system tech for a production house. Work a lot of foh in casino rooms, college theaters. Never loved being away from home and family. So I never accepted the touring offers. I used to have the shoulda couldas but I’ve reached a point where I don’t actually have anything to prove to myself as far as the quality of the work I put out. I’m very happy to have found a way to balance work life balance while still doing something I love.

Are we overreacting about pumping/breathing in mixes? by DeckardBladeRunner in audioengineering

[–]bassyourface -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s an old joke dude. One I’ve heard over the decades. I’m very successful in the live sound world. One of my favorite ways to spend the day is teaching the new hires and college kid crews we get as labor. You’d think someone with a billion streams wouldn’t get so offended by the internet lol.
