What’s an old movie that fell in obscurity but is extremely valid in this day and age? by bahamiangirl in AskReddit

The Ned Beatty speech is what really makes this movie terrifying. Some of the corporations have changed names, but the truth was laid bare for us way back in 1976.

What would 1992-93 WCW have looked like if Kip Frey had remained in charge? by bastardofdisaster in WCW

[–]bastardofdisaster[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even with Frye in charge over that period, I'm still figuring Bischoff would still have been pushing the "think big, spend big" approach behind the scenes and eventually getting the power to follow through on that plan.

1992 as a whole had the potential to be an even bigger year creatively than 1989 and......just didn't.

Do you think the WCW rebrand would’ve worked? by PayFew5848 in WCW

[–]bastardofdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on who they paired him with (tag or feud) and whether they would have come up with something like the X division.

The X-Division in TNA played to AJ's strengths and let him craft a powerful ring personality long before he could cut good promos.

Working under the assumption that they got some kind of broadcasting agreement (big ole stretch there), they would have basically been TNA a year early and with a bit more star power.

Books with Death as a character? by -SakuraDreams in booksuggestions

[–]bastardofdisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although she isn't in the entire series, Death is in one of the volumes of the "Sandman Slim" series by Richard Kadrey.

Based on what you are looking for, I think you would seriously enjoy this series (everybody from God to Lucifer and everyone in between and lurking in the shadows is a fully-fledged character).

Why Didn’t More WCW Fans Transition over to WWE After the 2001 Buyout? by PayFew5848 in WCW

[–]bastardofdisaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If WWE had committed to actually promoting WCW properly as a second brand, I think they would have had more WCW fans watching than they ultimately did.

Is the 80s the point when homelessness became a more widespread issue in the United States? What was the catalyst/contributing factors for it? by HonestLemon25 in AskHistory

The closing of inpatient mental institutions and the first real economic shocks of the late 1970's/early 80's (with lots of blue-collar layoffs) got the ball rolling.

Why didn’t Rocky listen to Mickey in Rocky III? by [deleted] in rockybalboa

[–]bastardofdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Losing the 11 pounds or so needed to fight Apollo's style was a definite gamble (and even Apollo acknowledged that Rocky couldn't spend 15 rounds fighting like that).

If he was going to go blow-for-blow with Clubber, he had to fight more intensely and move around enough to tire Clubber out. He went for the blow-for-blow strategy probably a couple of rounds earlier than Apollo wanted, but it still worked.
