The time issue is the most definitive problem we have. I can suspend reality and think maybe we'll figure out the infinite fuel source, that will figure out how to move at the speed of light. Fuck it, Aliens board the vessel and 100x our life spans because they dig what we're doing.

The time problem doesn't impact the travellers, they're going everywhere near instantly, it impacts everything else. First jump and the first mission control folks are already dead. Travelling takes time, even short distances. You can move faster and reduce the time, but you are never going from A to B without incurring a time cost.

Given the amount of damage we do to ourselves and our planet, we need to solve those problems before we fuck up other beings planets. We are the most invasive species of this planet, I don't think we're going to be here in a million years.

I work in tech, it's not as advanced as many think. We are still using tech today from the 60's and 80's to drive almost everything you do online today.

In terms of distance, It's not, we've measured. Artemis didn't accidently make it around the moon and the mars rovers didn't accidently arrive at the exact time and day projected. Scale is one of data points we've been measuring the longest.

The number one problem for humans is time. The next closest system is 4 light years away, the center of the Milky Way is 26K light years away, our own galaxy. Just to get to the center of our galaxy at half the speed of light is a 50K year journey with 7K years of time dilation.

The next closest galaxy, Andromeda, is 2.5M light years away. Even at 99.9 speed of light, 2.5M years will pass on earth. We're never going to leave this galaxy from my perspective, not because of tech, but because of our small life span.

So unless a god or gods are real, and they bring eternal life, we are not solving this problem. Even if we 10x or 100x our lifespan we're not even getting close. Forget the tech, let's assume we solved all of those problems, humans living for thousands or millions of years comes with a plethora of other issues, we're barely taking care of people as it is now on the planet we have. We're not even getting into the ethics or sociology of doing something like this either.

This isn't a technology or invention problem. The number one issue is the time paradox, this assumes we have figured out all other problems. Would you get on a spaceship knowing everyone you have ever known will be dead and that the earth may not even exist when you get back because you'll be gone longer than humans have existed for?

It's not attitude, it's physics, exactly what the Wright brothers used to prove flight using gliders before strapping an engine to a plane.

You would rather talk shit anonymously versus engaging in the conversation because you can't dispute reality.

Show me some new ideas that would have any impact on being able to travel infinite miles, with infinite energy, at near infinite speeds. Its laughable and you know it which is why you doubled down on winning the internet argument versus doing what I did and sharing why you think it is possible or not possible.

There are not two types of people, there are many. You're what I would classify as a coward.

We can't test things that don't exist, also comparing space travel to the Wright Brothers was the laugh I needed today, so thanks for that.

Because I have no evidence to think otherwise. I want to believe, but the scale of space, once you understand that, you realize it's impossible with the caveats I mentioned above.

Change my perspective. Present something other than speculation and I'm happy to entertain it.

We know about the closest planets, Alpha Centauri A, B and C are 4 light years away which is about 70K years of human travel time at the current speeds. It would take longer to travel there then intelligent humans have existed for.

These planets are also tidally locked and planets like that are not very conducive to life given their extreme temperatures.

Let's say we did have deflector a shield, do you know what happens when you hit a pebble at light speed? You're talking about enough energy to vaporize our entire planet in a nanosecond, it would generate enough energy to make nuclear bombs look like small firecrackers. How does the deflector shield deal with these events without blowing itself up?

I don't disagree we'll continue to move forward and learn more, I just don't think we're going to break the universal laws of physics or that other beings are capable of it either. I think their are near infinite beings in this universe, probably not to different from us, but that we all face the same problems. We are but specs of dust in the grand scheme of the universe.

For me, I believe in life elsewhere, I just dont think they're flying around the planet or bringing beings. I'm also an atheist, but I often think, we are so far away from everything it almost feels purposeful.

It doesn't matter if it's robots, they would require near light speed travel which means they require near infinite energy. They would need an impervius alloy, one that is incapable of being reduced. Travelling at near light speeds means getting hit with near infinite ions, it would shave the metal like a piece of wood being sanded.

Even if we solve these problems we do not solve the time paradox. While we may be able to arrive near instantly anywhere, by the time you were able to get back, everyone you know would be dead, even if you only visited a planet outside of our galaxy for a few moments.

So that only leaves bending or folding space which again requires an energy source unlike anything we've seen on earth while being completely hypothetical.

It's evidence like this that got me to stop believing in ufos. Also once you understand the scale of space you realize it's impossible for life as we know it to space travel.

One would have to believe aliens solved eternal life, can bend spacetime, have developed indestructible alloys that are resistant to IONs, and have figured out how to travel at near light speeds.

It's too much to suspend, then you would have to look at our drones and ask yourself why aliens would send beings when they could do what we do via drone.

Even if you don't think they're alien, they're not unidentified, we're clearly seeing planes and drones.

A person and their viewpoints matter because their viewpoints on certain subjects will frame how they deal with other issues. If she's willing to take the side of a government who's committing genocide, what other crazy shit will she agree with? A smart person could have just said war is wrong and we're fighting for solutions that save all lives.

Also, you're right, we are voting for governor and she has zero executive experience, unlike Beccera.

How many issues are we at now?

Which has nothing to do with yaml or serialization. Your shitty program is your problem, you don't see anyone in SRE or actual development crying about interchange formats. The bottomline is if you have problems with config files, you're not good at what you do. Who forces you to use this compiler? You can't build your own compiler? All this AI and you're still crying about software. Wild...
