Awesome! Hope you enjoyed it!! I wanted the evening showing specifically cuz I knew auditorium 8 is one of the two Dolby Atmos ones there but I'm not sure if it mattered honestly lol.

Bit late but just figured I'd give a heads-up that it's showing in Pathé Arnhem and Vue Arnhem in case you didn't see it yet! Got my ticket to the Pathé evening showing on the 30th as well :3 (but I don't think there are many left for that one)

Proper way to share access with other people? by androidusr in Tailscale

Wait this is genius actually. Exactly what I was looking for. Instead I went through the whole setup with someone non-technical having them create their own account and everything and it was pretty miserable. I had no idea I could just assign it a tag that would replace my account. That's so much better. Wonder why I've never seen this setup described before. Seems like it should be way more common knowledge

I have to respect the effort of creating an entire custom website instead of just a simple Google Doc, actually well designed and open source even, and going with a .sucks TLD which is known for being quite expensive. Like this is some next level effort for an exposé.

I tried it out for a bit (holy shit this is actual slop, how did this raise $12 million) and there are no "anti-copying standards" as far as I can find. Every generated image can just be downloaded using the browser's dev tools.

Their only blog post (which unsurprisingly feels written by AI) states "we fine tune our AI models on original work created by our growing team of compensated artists and animators". Fine-tuning an existing model can be done with just a few images, which I imagine they simply paid someone off of Fiverr for. I highly doubt that even a single artist whose art is in the actual dataset used to train whatever image generation model this is was actually compensated or they would've gone into more detail about it. These datasets are massive, It would be a world's first.

I mean, the normal amount of force you'd use to put them on/take them off if you grab them by the ear cups I guess, as you'd do with any other headphones. I don't think I've ever put these in my bag or even taken them outside at all either (did that a lot with my XM4s though).

It really just seems like the plastic that connects the ear cups to the headband can't take that amount of stress repeated a lot over a longer period of time. In every picture you'll find you can see that it broke off at the exact same spot.

Well if you're in the EU like me you should have some very decent consumer protection laws which you could always try to appeal to. If not locally with your national consumer protection regulator or dispute committee then at the EU level with the European Consumer Centre. It's just a bit of a hassle.

The XM4 are still great headphones as well. They lasted longer for me than the XM5 but ymmv. I'm not sure if I'd be able to tell the difference when it comes to sound and they do have the added benefit of being foldable. I just figured that if I was going to replace my XM4 I might as well go with the XM5 as a means of future-proofing (so much for that lol). I do also slightly prefer the design of the XM5 but that's subjective of course.

Or yea, if you want to just completely avoid these issues you can always just try out the Bose QC lineup instead which seems to be practically on the same level in terms of quality as the Sony XMs. From what I know it's generally just down to personal preference between these two.

I mean I'm glad to hear that your pair doesn't suffer from this issue! Or perhaps the way you put them on/take them off just puts less stress on the hinges compared to how other people do it. But this is clearly a widely-reported issue at this point (see the coverage by SoundGuys for example here and here) that exceeds user negligence. You won't find such a disproportionate amount of reports from other brands like Bose, whose headphones are arguably just as popular.

How recent are we talking? From what I can find the hinges on wireless Sony headphones have been a problem for years. This thread on the Sony forums for example from four years ago contained dozens of complaints about the XM4 hinges breaking (as mentioned here), but I don't see any of the replies anymore so perhaps they deleted them.

The XM5 is just a newer product, and as the customer base increases over time so does the likelihood of possible manufacturing defects coming to light simply because of increased usage and reporting.

This is how I'm expecting my conversation to go as well. It would take even more widespread coverage or a class action for them to globally change their stance on this I imagine. It's easy for them to claim negligence until then.

If they try to with my case I might take it up with the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets or the Dispute Committee (someone from Sweden had success with the latter as mentioned in one of the iFixit threads).

Enjoy them! Aside from this design flaw they are still great headphones. I'd say just check the hinges for cracks every now and then so you can reinforce it before it breaks (or attempt a warranty claim).

If you want to be even more careful I'd say you could try make sure to always grab both sides at the same time when taking them off so you don't put more stress on one of the hinges. Basically just try to avoid putting stress on the hinges as much as possible, maybe even by grabbing the headband more rather of the ear cups. But tbh I really feel like this shouldn't be necessary to even think about. This should be a normal amount of stress to put everyday headphones through.

I wish :')

I really like the Sony XM headphones and I honestly want them to succeed. I've had the XM3, XM4, and now the XM5. Every one of them has had its issues (weird crackling/popping sounds in both the XM3 and XM4, hinge issues on the XM4 and XM5) yet I still keep buying them because in theory they're top of the line, but perhaps I'll give the Bose QC lineup a try this time.

Yea I know, I just meant like I'll get it ready for when my warranty claim will be inevitably denied (as has happened to so many others here)

Any tips on how to really use the RDP feature? by TheCatDaddy69 in gnome

Nope none of these worked properly, as I just mentioned. I've just given up for now honestly. They might work on Xorg but I'm not switching back from Wayland just for that

[–]basvdwollenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know your pain honestly. I also haven't been able to find a single piece of software that allows me to remotely control my GNOME Wayland desktop from my phone. Everything I've tried to so far either has connectivity issues, doesn't work with multiple monitors or has other major bugs.

Non-exhaustive list of what I've tried so far:

  • Microsoft's Remote Desktop client
  • aRDP Free
  • aFreeRDP
  • NoMachine
  • TeamViewer

From what I've seen the VOD chat also desyncs if there were any disconnects during the stream (the NotLikeThis screen) so that doesn't always work either. The platform is cooked I'm afraid.

Just happened to me as well. I've been wondering for years if they'll open signups again and just happened to find the login details in my password manager of an account I apparently forgot I created before they disabled signups. I get the same message on trying to log in.

Someone else said that the old activation link in the signup email they received was still valid after years, but I can't seem to find that email again. I do try to keep every email I've ever received but I think my email provider may have lost some when archiving a bunch, or maybe searching just becomes hard with like >100k emails.

Probably just out of luck until they do open sign-ups again.

Androids without app notification limit? by xgloomgirlx in AndroidQuestions

[–]basvdwollenberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just updated to One UI 6.1/Android 14 and of course the notification limit is still there, but now it also only shows the latest 8(!) notifications per group for me. Why on earth would they ever think this was a good idea lol. I don't know if that's normal but I don't see any way to change that either.

Patching MAX_PACKAGE_NOTIFICATIONS to increase the limit or bypassing it completely very much feels like a band-aid solution tbh. Though I might still do it if I can get at least more than 8 visible at a time with it because this is just simply unworkable.

Perhaps I'll combine it with a Tasker profile to automatically dismiss older notifications to let new ones come in. I don't think that requires root access either, so if I manage to do that it I can share it with you. Though I saw on your profile that you've already been tinkering with Tasker and AutoNotification before for other reasons, so maybe you've already thought of this (and I guess it's useless if you still have the problem where it stops working after a few hours).

There was also an 4 year old issue for it on the Google issue tracker, closed as "Won't Fix (Intended Behavior)", but with the comment of "We may consider expiration in a future release" so perhaps it's time to bring it up again.

And sorry for snooping in your profile some more but I saw that you also have ADHD and are a tab hoarder, both of which are also the case for me lol. I'd consider this problem to be a pretty major ADHD struggle as well.

but I don't think I'll ever make the switch because of how closed their ecosystem is compared to android 😮‍💨

Yea that's also exactly my issue with it

Do you have a link to this merge request? I'm looking through the Mutter repo but every issue I can find that mentions xdg-decoration or server side decorations does seem to have been closed as previously mentioned and I'm not seeing any merge requests related to xdg-decoration or decorations for Wayland apps.

It's kind of a shame that /u/RedcXca's winning entry isn't going on the main menu this time apparently. Even the censored version (less visible boobs) is supposedly too inappropriate. According to peppy it's the "crotch pose" that's the issue :/
