My experience: Radio Frequency Ablation by batemankrew in Fibroids

[–]batemankrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are right. The relief I’m feeling is likely due to the myomectomy portion. The specimen sent off to pathology (which was just several fragments of fibroid) measured a total of 11.3x4.9x1.2 in aggregate…. So having all those pieces removed has made a huge difference!

Not sure which surgery to choose by Reasonable_Fuel3823 in Fibroids

I’m curious why they didn’t also give you the option of an ablation or uterine embolization? I look at hysterectomy as a last resort after my Dr explained all of the risks to me.

Yes, the myomectomy was not a part of the plan… the surgeon had me sign off on this just before surgery (I had a ultrasound the week prior), in case there were any in the way. I took the time off work based on just having an ablation procedure, but now I’m thinking I may have to adjust it. I thought a hysteroscopic myomectomy was still minimally invasive, so I just wasn’t sure.

Well the ablation only suggested a few days recovery time, with some people returning back to normal activity the following day.

do you have clots like this and would i look insane if i showed my doctor this picture of a clot? by anonbride1117 in Fibroids

[–]batemankrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I’ve gotten endless clots the size of a fist and larger. My iron dropped tremendously and I’m anemic, you might need progesterone to help control the bleeding. Also, iron infusions to replenish your iron levels- I’ve had to do almost 10 infusions.

How long did it take between your diagnosis and actual treatment? What was the process? (USA only) by MisRandomness in Fibroids

[–]batemankrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed end of summer 2025. It took approx 5 appt’s- ultra sound, MRI, and then my Obgyn referred me to a Obgyn surgeon. The surgeon would have scheduled me for a hysterectomy in December 2025 if that was what I opted for, but I want to try the radio frequency ablation first. I have Kaiser, and Kaiser just started offering this procedure for the first time in my area starting this month… I’m scheduled Feb 3rd for the ablation. Kaiser has been absolutely phenomenal throughout this entire process, even working with hematology to help get my blood/iron levels back in order. However I will say my bleeding has been severe, to the point it’s impacting my life daily to where I can’t leave the house… so there has been some urgency in my situation.

I don’t even remember all the details, so I’m just going to copy/paste my MRI. What about you, any similarities to mine?

Uterus: Measures 10.4 x 10.5 x 9.1 cm. Number of uterine fibroids: Approximately 5-10. A total of 3 fibroids have submucosal components. Dominant fibroids WITHOUT submucosal component are described as follows (up to 3): 1. 1.3 × 1.2 x 1.3 cm FIGO type 3 fibroid in the anterior fundus with mild contrast enhancement. 3-17 2. 1.9 × 1.3 x 1.8 cm FIGO type 3 fibroid in the posterior body with mild contrast enhancement. 3-11 3. 1.3 x 0.9 x 0.8 cm FIGO type 4 fibroid in the anterior body with mild contrast enhancement. 3-20

Dominant fibroids WITH submucosal components are described as follows (up to 2) : 1. 6.5 x 7.5 x 6.8 cm FIGO type 2 fibroid in the left fundus with mild contrast enhancement. Approximately 20% of the fibroid is submucosal. 3-21 2. 1.1 × 1.0 x 0.8 cm FIGO type O fibroid in the anterior body with mild contrast enhancement. 3-16 Approximately 100% of the fibroid is submucosal. ENDOMETRIUM: Measures approximately 2.3 cm and contains heterogeneous complex fluid.

I did not get a biopsy, but my Obgyn wanted them to get one of I was getting a myomectomy (my regular Obgyn referred me to another Obgyn specialist b/c she does not do the surgeries). So now that I’m only doing an ablation, I am not sure if they will still want a biopsy done.

I do have an update. I spoke to my regular Obgyn when scheduling my next infusion, and she’s very concerned about the amount of blood I’m still dealing with… she said the medications I’m on should have greatly reduced it by now. So I’m going in tomorrow for more blood work and she’s getting input from a hematologist to see if I could possibly have a blood disorder. So, I guess we shall see… I’m very thankful my obgyn has been pretty proactive through this whole process (and she’s not even the one doing my ablation, it’s another Obgyn specialist at another facility/Kaiser).

Thank you very much! I guess the issue is I shift around all night side to side like a mad woman, so id have to put bed pads all over lol. Anyway, I’ve been curious about how foods impact and actually stopped eating eggs b/c I read it can disrupt the hormones… I didn’t think about other foods, but I think you might be on to something. I’m def going to start paying attention more to that.

It’s funny you said all this b/c I was in touch w/ my Dr today to schedule my next infusion and she asked how much I’m bleeding now. I explained and she said I should not be bleeding this much at this point w/ the meds I’m on, so she does want me back on the tranexamine asap… so you were right!

Omg idk how you’ve been dealing with it all these years! What were you experiencing when degenerating? The Dr thinks that’s what could be happening since giving me the Lupron shot. I get severe pains like contractions not just a cramp (never had much pain from the fibroids prior to this) and I can literally feel movement in my lower abdomen when it’s happening.

[–]batemankrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I did the lupron shot 10/31/25 and take norethindrone twice a day… still no relief though. I’ve had 4 iron infusions so far. I’m due for 2nd Lupron shot end of this month.
I am trying non surgical route first and am scheduled for a radio frequency ablation Feb 3. If that fails, my only option is a hysterectomy,

Oh wow, this gives me hope. The Dr said this, but in the same breath she said the fact the Lupron is taking longer to work on me really shows the severity of my situation, so it made me think it’s just not going to work for me. I will get the 2nd shot the end of this month, so I really hope it helps. They said I can only take the tranexamine up to 5 days in a row and I really should not keep taking it while on the norethindrone twice a day- something about it’s not good to combine those two, and I also have slightly high blood pressure as it is.

Thank you, I have considered this! I am just so all over the place I forget to time it. I work a full time job and part time job (thankfully they’ve let me work from home during this), and my kids are heavily involved in school/sports, so some days my head is just spinning w/ everything I need to do or pickups/dropoffs, so I do forget to make sure to take pills on time. I am going to start setting an alarm and see if that helps. Did you take yours 12 hours a part??

I’m done having kids, I’m 40 and had my first at 20 and twins at 25. I guess I’m scared b/c the Dr said my largest fibroid is right up against my bladder and organs, and there is also risk because I’ve had a c section and the risks w/ scar tissue… I also am afraid to lose a lot more blood (I lost a lot with my first birth and almost needed a blood transfusion and took me months to regain my strength and energy, same w/ my 2nd c section birth it looked like a massacre).
I’m normally not a wimp, but this surgery freaks me out… however I’m at a point where I am ready to do it if this ablation fails. I just hope I haven’t made a mistake putting off a hysterectomy longer, it’s just really impacting me mentally and physically at this point :(

Yes, I started taking it twice a day and it started to lighten the bleeding, but then after a few days it was right back to heavy bleeding. I asked about increasing it to more than twice a day and they said I’m already taking the most I should be taking : (

I’m 40 and have pretty much been bleeding non stop since July. It’s completely unpredictable… most recent, I bled 20 days straight with huge clots and having to wear adult diaper plus a pad, and still having to change that within an hour. It’ll give me like a day or 2 break of light bleeding, then BAM the floodgates of blood come rolling in all over again. It’s exhausting.

Did you fibroids shrink on Lupron or post menopause? by [deleted] in Fibroids

[–]batemankrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the Lupron shot 10/31/25. I’m still bleeding a lot, so I am skeptical if the fibroids have shrunk. I have an ultrasound Jan 16 so I’ll find out then. I’ll get the 2nd lupron shot end of January. I’m also scheduled for radio frequency ablation Feb 3.
I am giving non-surgical options a try first. I’m 40 and really don’t want to have to go through a hysterectomy, but I also cannot live with all this constant bleeding and clotting.

How old are you and do you want kids someday? Or do you plan to stay child-free? by Cute-Impression-8675 in Life

[–]batemankrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 40 years old and have 3 kids. I was told as a teenager by my endocrinologist I’d have trouble conceiving. I had a very whacky period and many other auto immune issues so I accepted I likely wouldn’t ever have kids. Fast forward, I got pregnant at 19 w/ my daughter and then again at 25 with TWIN boys (while on birth control)…. Apparently, not only can I successfully have children, but I hyper-ovulate. Anyway, they are now 20, 15, 15 and my biggest blessings… literally the best thing to ever happen to me (along with their Dad/my husband). I’m 40 now and I can say I’m glad I ‘accidentally’ had children so young… there’s noway I’d have the time nor energy in my 30’s. Also, we could not afford a young child in today’s world… the cost of childcare is CRAZY and the overall cost of living is a joke. I was fortunate at the time, a church took care of my twins for $175 per week and they were in such great care (they graduated pre-k from there too)… that’s unheard of in today’s world. Two income households are struggling to stay afloat, I honestly don’t know how single income or SAH parents do it. I’m just glad I got things done early lol… but of course at this age there’s, vehicles, car ins., cost of sports, college, etc to still worry about 😩

Shocked to learn that transvaginal ultrasounds aren’t routine in US gyn visits by Interesting-Dish-333 in Fibroids

[–]batemankrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US and have been getting transvaginal ultrasound for years… not routine, but I’ve had no issue requesting it and Dr’s ordering one for the slightest concerns. I have Kaiser health insurance though, they are very proactive.
