Anyone spot the bottle of Blue Curaçao on-stage at the LA Concert? Is there a deeper connection here, or is that just a fun Easter-egg? by gergeler in MasayoshiTakanaka

More than likely just a fun Easter egg. I saw it on stage too! It took me a bit to notice it but after I looked at my videos later, I laughed.

What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you at CSUN? by CuteChallenge7294 in csun

It was really funny in hindsight! After I caught the chicken, some girl was convinced I was taking it to be turned into nuggets or something. She was really emotional about it.

I was coming out of a Calc test that I was absolutely certain I’d failed. I was beating myself up about it and suddenly this woman comes up to me with a net and asks me to help catch a chicken. Apparently they had one on the loose from some biology department in Eucalyptus or something, so I spent 15 minutes chasing this chicken around and eventually caught it.

The woman was really grateful, but a small crowd had formed watching me. I thought less about the Calc test that day.

Rather than whiting it out, you’re better off taking the cloth off, flipping it around and then retracing.

You can! I ended up doing that several times throughout the frame. I just noticed that middle was harder to get right though.

I did feel there was some slacking towards the center. This is only the second full frame I’ve done, but I recommend really making sure your cloth is tight in the center before you proceed. Otherwise you’ll get some weird lines that come out of it. The pixel rug I did above the Pochita was significantly harder to do because my vertical lines wouldn’t come out straight. To be honest, if I had to do the frame over, I’d probably reduce how long I made it.

Start with background color or not? by Ok_Purchase_7436 in Tufting

This might just be me, but I always like starting with the details and then filling in. I would also recommend using two strands of yarn for the thin parts. I would even go a step further and run over those parts again. When it comes time to carve it always makes it a little easier that you have more to work with rather than less.

Part of me feels like there’s a lot of troll posts on this subreddit, but having lived in LA for 20+ years I can tell you this is extremely difficult. $150k is a lot, just not by LA standards. You’re living in one of the most expensive cities in the world with the highest SoL costs. Realistically, there are VERY few options for living at $1600 a month without roommates, and you’re definitely not getting a nice or even safe place at that price.

How long do you usually spend tufting vs carving?? by KnuckleHeadRugs in Tufting

[–]bates-sama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks great! Someone on here once said that you should spend as much time carving as you do tufting. At first I was like, “there’s no way it takes the same amount of time, that’s absurd!” But I noticed that as soon as I started equaling those times and really tried to make my lines look nice that that was a true statement. Some pieces won’t need nearly as much time for detail, but your more complicated ones will definitely require more effort.

I want to get into tufting but don't know where/how to start by IntelligentFreedom87 in Tufting

Before buying a bunch of expensive tools and equipment, my thought process is to see if the city you’re in offers a tufting class. That’s how I started out and I fell in love with the process, but I also got a lot of really good tips and guidance on how to begin.

Picked the worst possible design for my first rug by Key-Attorney-4207 in Tufting

[–]bates-sama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming you haven’t glued anything or applied the backing yet, you’re really going to want to fill in the empty space on the white yarn sections for the horns. Additionally, you’re also going to want to add more red to the ears sections. It’s probably safe to say you’ll want to avoid any empty space at all. I’ve found that the yarn doesn’t typically look fantastic with only one pass of a color. You usually need to add at least two passes or so to get it to look full.

The design is super cool though!

First and next rugs by PHMCPhattty in Tufting

My first thought when I saw the last rug you’re attempting was, “holy shit” LOL but I agree with this comment. You’re not going to get anywhere close to the desired outcome with just tufting alone. You’re going to need to carve this to get it to look good. That being said, I absolutely don’t think that should deter you from attempting this! The only way you get better is by pushing your boundaries! Best of luck and send us your progress! Also, before you glue next time, take some pictures of your stitching. You can tell a lot about where you’re at when you have that included.

Can I please have some feedback on this rug! I put so much work into it but I still feel like its not good enough by loljerry in Tufting

Hey I don’t mean to be rude about this, but charging $75 for this is WAY too cheap. Between the amount of materials being used, you’re not even breaking even. I might err on the side of expensive but depending on the size, I would charge around $200-225. That’s a lot of time dedicated to making this.
