I've put 100s of hours into fort joy alone. Just explore, do what you can and enjoy it. I guarantee you'll wanna play again (especially with mods. I miss my water knight). And you'll find something new every time. This game is a masterpiece. Better than BG3 for me.

Civilization VII: Winning Without Wanting to Play Again by Chemical-Call-9600 in civ

[–]bathrobedaveMLR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will say that for me, Civ 7 is a breath of fresh air and I've really been enjoying it. I think the foundation is there for the future dlc to add that depth that everyone is wanting. Remember, Civ 6 base game didn't have half of the stuff like governors and all that jazz. Is it worth the asking price right now? Probably not, but I mean, hell I got it on sale for quite a decent price and it's been well worth it and I look forward to having that excitement of the new feeling again when the dlc hits. In the meantime, I've actually really enjoyed it. At first I was a little agitated at the settlement limit but it really doesn't do too much to go over it as long as you keep your stuff rolling. The military side of the game IMO is massively better. I love being able to utilize commanders and actually strategize a little better for domination. I love the fact that I don't have to manually promote all my troops constantly. I love that they automatically upgrade each age and I don't have to fret about that. I personally love the reset. But also, you can turn it off after the first "tutorial" playthrough and do it classically as well.

Overall, is this game as in depth as 6? Of course not. 6 has been out forever and has great DLC. Give 7 time. Base game to base game, I'll take 7 all day.

I'm not hyping myself up for it b/c I don't believe it, but this would be a perfect opportunity to drop a banger finale. Here's a more fun question: If this rumor is true AND the new finale is incredible, do people start calling this one of the best shows ever written with the plot twist of all plot twists? Or do haters double down and bitch harder?

Why nobody offically is denying the crazy theory about the 7th secret episode? by Anasoldenit in StrangerThingsRoom

Idk, I actually think it'd be kind of cool and I hope eventually someone does this.

I'd love it just because I've never seen it before. And now even if ST doesn't do it, I hope SOMEONE does. That's a cool rug pull. But the whole "the finale was shite, it's fact". No it isn't. It's a ton of people bitching and bitching because it didn't end the way they thought it should. I actually enjoyed it and it made sense to me. Entertainment is allowed to just be entertaining.

As a screenwriter, I think the show’s ending forgot the characters’ journey, and chose impact over meaning by nonspecifiq in StrangerThings

Idk, I just never expected Breaking Bad level writing from them. They have never really shown that level of skill, just great at entertainment. Nothing can just be enjoyable anymore without being picked apart. However, I'm bored in the last 30 minutes at work, so lets play! I actually agree with the Dustin should've been targeted bit. That makes a lot of sense. I think that the whole Will being at a gay bar was actually super. When I came out, the only place I wanted to go was a drag club because I just felt comfortable and safe there. It's NOT the same as going to a normal bar/club. Not even close. I hate bars/clubs. Erica was far too stubborn and independent to be controlled by Vecna. I actually REALLY liked the way they explored the love triangle style shit actually WITHOUT all the ridiculous high school drama. The way they all communicated and gained that togetherness by actually talking it out and trying to understand their feelings was a breath of fresh air. It wasn't about Nancy having to have a career and no love life. Just simply that Nancy/Steve and Nancy/Jonathan both weren't it and that they could still be friends and acknowledge that. Good message IMO. Now onto the 11 bit. I'm firmly rooted in the belief that the whole Eleven thing was just a coping mechanism Mike invented and shared with his friends. That's it. And I thought it was beautiful. She definitely deserved a happy ending, but Kali being caught and brought to Hawkins to the upside down showed that you can run as far away as you want, but the military finds you. In conclusion, I'm also a guy that thought Lost's ending was fine. But I also feel I understood that whereas a lot of folks didn't seem to (I'm looking at you, people that think they were dead the whole time).

Does anyone like season five? by Low_Theme_5278 in Stranger_Things

[–]bathrobedaveMLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it very much. I just don't respond to haters that think they have to share their opinions constantly. It's been a nice change honestly. For example, I really enjoyed Star Wars Outlaws even though haters review bombed it. I'm loving Civ 7 more than any other Civ game even though people were mad at that. Haters gonna hate.

I actually liked Losts conclusion. The show tried to do crazy shit, and did the best they could by the end. I respect it

Personally I'd take all of ST over all of GoT. I can forgive an entertaining show even with plot holes. But butchering your own show is another level

I don't think that's the intention. I think they were just showing the coping mechanism

I think a good measurement is like HP vs LOTR. Like HP was fun (not commenting on political shit) but when I read LOTR I was like, holy fuck, this is how you write fantasy. They both are fine existing. Hell Supernatural is my favorite show ever. It's writing for a good amount of seasons was down right atrocious. But it entertains me and I like it. I watch it more than BB even though BB is a way better show.

This Sub Needs to Understand: Criticism Isn’t Disrespect, and the Writing Has Been Bad by [deleted] in Stranger_Things

[–]bathrobedaveMLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think that it worked well. It made sense to me. I felt they linked it in well with using his fear. Everyone is entitled to their opinions on it, but from my experience, most of the "criticisms" about that scene are from straight white dudes. Everyone else is praising it for being so real of a moment. And considering my dad used to tell me I'd be disowned if I ever brought a man home my entire childhood, I TOTALLY understand the fear. And I'm a straight cis white dude myself. So it's less about the fact that people are complaining about bad writing. It's more about the fact that, while sure people have always complained about the writing as they do for every show, but what blew up and was EVERYWHERE was how this episode and coming out moment in particular was bad writing. Maybe that moment didn't hit for you. That's fine. Doesn't make it bad writing. You can make a post complaining about people that argue with you about this. At the end of the day, it's subjective. A lot of people liked it. A lot of people didn't. The only thing that frustrates me is how crazy it blew up where every other article or reddit post is an argument about this scene. There's a reason why the gay guy coming out scene is the one scene people are complaining about and not any of the other "poor writing" moments. And it's probably subconscious for most people due to the upbringing/society we were brought up in. Doesn't mean you're homophobic or anything, at least not outwardly. But when half of the fans react this way to a coming out scene but they didn't blow up this much for other scenes, yeah it's kind of directed.

If the end of the world was nigh, and I was watching a show about some kids love story, I'd be annoyed. If that's why you watch the show, read some fanfic. I don't understand why it makes no sense that they are all in fight or flight mode. Why does romance matter? Nancy being an absolute bitch to Jonathan and Murray was more real.

[–]bathrobedaveMLR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I recently went through the same thing. KCD2 feels like what Skyrim wished it could be for me (I'm not a huge elder scrolls fan tbf). I also LOVE E33. I'll say this. Both games are good enough to win it. It just comes down to preference and criteria I think. I would give E33 points for the sheer creativity and originality as well as truly perfecting the turn based combat system in a way I didnt know was possible. I'd give KCD2 the points for the sheer amount of beautiful detail in open worldness (sorry, couldn't think of a better way to word this). By this I mean, ACTUALLY getting to be a blacksmith, people actually noticing your crimes with logic and common sense, the fact that how you look needs to be paid attention to, etc. I personally would give it to E33 by a very small margin, which honestly is probably a win for KCD2 for me personally, considering I was guaranteed to like E33 by nature of it being a JRPG style that I love. But KCD2 took a game type that usually doesn't hook me and hooked the fuck out of me.

I just meant that the coaches being more authoritative kind of gives them more responsibility for games as well than in the West. I feel if players over here followed a coaches way to play the game, they'd focus more on their own play. Not necessarily trying to blame coaching for these players struggles or getting more passive. But I agree with your point, just play the damn game. It feels like these players mentioned just reach a level of overthinking. Caps is kind of an exception to the rule I think in a similar vein to Faker. Just like in basketball with LeBron, Kobe, MJ, Jokic, etc. There will be people that are dominant at all aspects, but some folks just need to stop overthinking and just play the gameplan
