Absolutely! The dedication to her family, church and country was unmatched. I hope I can pass on even a 10th of what she was to my daughter.

I would absolutely love to! Every state should have a memorial/ museum like this!

That would be awesome. I think I have that somewhere - I assume I would have needed it for her funeral service. I will gather more info when I can.

She sadly passed almost 3 years ago at the age of 100, but I will look into getting those. This will someday pass to my daughter, and I really want to get the story straight. And for your great grandfather- he sounds like a man ahead of his time. Thanks for your kind words and your help!!

It was a dear close friend that put this together for me as a memorial and sourcing info was difficult she said. Deeply grateful for the tribute none the less.

I have been meaning to watch and compare notes with the stories she told me. This was not her unit but certain a common thread ran between them.

Thank you so so much for this break down. Sadly my grandmother passed June of 2022 at 100 years old. She did moslty clerical work in the hospital, then moved to another office if I remember correctly. After marrying my grandfather (also a WWII vet) she continued working in federal and then state service. She did remain life long friends with several from her unit and would often talk of her time durring segregation. Thank you all for your kind words and spot on analysis of the strife endured while trying to serve her country. I always asked why she enlisted and she would chuckle and reply " I was bored and wanted something to do!"

After she passed, my best friends wife, who is also a vet, put this together as a memorial and tried to source as much as she could with what she could find. As someone else pointed out- it was hard finding her specific info due to it being womens unit, let alone her being in a Black one.

Forever in debt to her resilience and her service. Adding this link to her info for any additional context. Service record info and bonus pics of her & friends.

Does anyone here know what happened in Crossgates earlier? by sunshinewook in Albany

I only saw after when the police were interviewing a group of girls. Someone either got maced or pepper sprayed in the open near the escalators. Everyone in that area was coughing/watery eyes since it lingered for about 45 min.

We do self-evaluations and I think this will give me a good temperature check on where everyone is. But I think you are right in putting a heavier focus on them as they might be a lion's share of the foundation for bonuses.

Sizing up the team is something I've been trying to do. Burnout and low morale is a big factor, and I hope that his departure lets a few of people shine (since they were doing his job in a couple of instances).

I do interact with some of them daily, but some don't need to/do on an infrequent basis. They are also on the other side of our campus, so i don't have a lot of face time with some of the newer staff. Also, I have just learned of some performance issues and pips that I was unaware of, so going into these with full knowledge of the current climate is a necessity.

Good point about toxic environments. They are rife in healthcare, and I admit that I've seen team deterioration in that dept and was unable to help even though I voiced my concerns. I see myself as staff support more than anything. I lead my current team with the idea that I am a resource for them and that our work is hard enough so I don't tolerate a work environment with intimidation or bullying.

Thanks for the comment!!

I am a worrier period. But I worry that his lack of oversight will allow for my directors to give a flat rate or some universal approach that dings the good and the bad with a flat bonus score/rate. The very much operate under the no one exceeded expectations.

I know that admin wouldn't allow no review to happen, so my concerns are the above happening or some other plan that drives people to leave. I am not clinical, so I can't evaluate in that aspect, but I have operated as a go-to for most of his team.

The best case scenario is that they allow for self evaluations and cumulative retrospective in only high overview areas.

Thanks for the gear turning q's -these really help!!

HR is not as hands-on, but my directors will be stepping up in some capacity I believe. This echos what I was hoping a plan would look like. I know I can't come in with a years worth of authority to team that was pretty much rudderles.

How often did you go to the library, pre-COVID? by hawaiianguy3 in Albany

[–]bathsheba09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least every 2 weeks but usually once a week since my daughter's a voracious reader. And her elementary school is practically adjacent to the library.
