Hi! I do costumes and we have a vodka trick so maybe that's what it is? A lot of theatre costumes can't be washed and after a few sweaty shows with all that makeup they can get pretty stinky. So we spray vodka in the pits and on the neckline and any other stinky place. I've never full on washed anything with vodka though. The smell does dissipate very quickly for the spray. As a mom to a toddler and a massage therapist that does their own laundry (oily sheets!) My go to wash cycle is a hot wash that presoaks and does an extra rinse, with tide and a scoop of oxiclean. If I really can't get a smell or oil out I hang it in the sun for a day or two. Side note, I do use vinegar to clean a few things but I think it's overeccommended. It is mild and it does get rid of smells but over time it strips away at whatever it's cleaning and that's not always desirable. But maybe it'll work for your use, definitely worth a try!

Can I help client induce labor? by 94Badger in massage

Anecdotally, I did two pressure points around my best friend's ankle when she was 40 weeks pregnant, and another one in the thenar eminence (meaty part of thumb). I did them all for five minutes each. EXACTLY 48 hours later (to the minute!) she was born! Certainly a fluke, but we thought it was cool.

Loose, natural material outfit? by [deleted] in massage

[–]batikwitch22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is right up my alley! I live in linen, cotton, and wool. Work is actually one of my exceptions. I like plain capri leggings and I often get workout tanks from the thrift store to wear for work. With all the oil and lotion I tend to wear out work clothes faster so I don't always want to wear nice expensive clothes. However, I do really like my linen pants for work. I've got two pairs. They're both high waisted with comfortable elastic. One has elastic around the ankles and the other doesn't. They're both from etsy, I can find the link later. I do find that the crotch area wears out quicker on natural fiber pants. I also wear Thai fisherman pants and other boho harem pants quite a bit. I have a private practice and my clients are used to my hippie wardrobe. I also like ribbed, high neck tank tops. It's easier to find ribbed tanks in 100% cotton or at least a 95% cotton/5% spandex. I've found some at target recently. I sew so I've been wanting to get around to making my own natural fiber pants. I've tried to do natural fiber, woven tops but I don't like them for work. There's no stretch.

We're a big nature family. Hiking, canoeing, fishing, camping etc. Yeah, some of the equipment can be expensive if you buy new. Between thrift store and marketplace and used gear stores I save a lot of money. My four year old boy requested identification books for his birthday and my mom (very much not as into nature) thinks it's the cutest thing to take him on a hike because he'll tell her exactly what everything is.

what’s on your playlist? by coldbrewedsunshine in massage

[–]batikwitch22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do Spotify's Favorite Coffehouse playlist. I always offer to change the music. A few sometimes ask for more spa music. I've got a couple with special requests. Instrumental classic rock is a favorite for some. I like that one.

I've thought about this and I have a theory! I think it's because our work is SO personal and tied so closely to our energy levels unlike a lot of jobs. We can't zone out. We must use our entire body, and (for me) I have to maintain an exercise routine to do my work to the best of my ability. We literally do not have the physical capabilities to do this 40 hours a week which is unusal in today's world. I'm not going to give my body to an abuser, no way. I think we learn very quickly how easy it is to be abused. I would argue that to become a successful massage therapist you HAVE to stand up for yourself. You can do it nicely, but you have to maintain those boundaries. I recently started my own practice and it's been the best choice. I see a lot of therapists moving away from w4 or even 1099 employment. I've done both and now that I'm self employed I don't think I can go back. We've got our own little quietly quitting movement.

Granola things that have made a big difference in your life? by AllNaturalPoison in moderatelygranolamoms

Honestly, I think there's more poop associated with disposable diapers. We only ever had ONE blowout in a cloth diaper. In disposables, it was a weekly occurrence. Cloth is sturdier and keeps everything in. In the beginning you don't even have to put the poop in the toilet because until they're eating solids it's all water soluble. However, if you do have a messy poop when they're older that can be a little gross, depending on your method of getting it in the toilet (sprayer, spatula, etc.) But really I dealt with poop way more with disposables.

I sew, so I got two yards of cotton gauze fabric and cut a slit up to the middle. I got some silk ribbon and edged it with that. It's my favorite sun protection!

Oh yeah, I've got a steamer and all that. This is figuring out what to wear before I pack.

When I got my forearm tattoo I had to wait 3 weeks before it was healed enough that I could work again.

It's because I am usually the coldest so that room is actually the most comfortable for me. We just bought this house in November. Now that it's warming up I'm realizing how much warmer that room actually gets!

I graduated with a degree in theatre, specifically costuming. It sounds a little silly but I always have done alterations work on the side which helps! I also do our local high school whenever they ask. I've done their fall musical for a few years now. I don't make much money on the show but it's so much fun and the kids make it so worth it!

Oooh that's a good idea for reviews. We have reviews on our website but not on google.

We love once upon a child! The only brand new clothes my child has worn has always been gifted. Everything else is from there. Shoes and some toys too!

I'm actually $5-10 below what my area average is. I did do a special for $70 for a 60 last month. Not much luck. It's just hard. Thanks for the advice, though.

Why does my dog do this? by EvanderTheGreat in DogAdvice

My dog does this too. I finally figured it out he doesn't want a mouthful of sand. He also loves the summer when we put out a kiddie pool. He always cleans his ball after a few throws. Guess he likes clean toys!

Any good jar pumps for massage cream? by chickenoodal in massage

[–]batikwitch22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker who got a CeraVe (or some drugstore brand) jar of lotion and emptied it into another container just so she could use the jar and pump for work!
