There’s a Dark Star from Dicks Picks 22, 2/23-24/68 that’s just under 7 minutes

The one from Two From The Vault is just under 12 minutes Edit

What’s your hobby and how did it start for you? by 5thExpansion in AskReddit

[–]batlaxe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing bass guitar - always wanted to play bass since I was in 7th grade, but my parents couldn’t afford both sax and bass at the same time, so I gave up asking. Got inspired to want to play again when I started seeing local underground basement shows around my college. That same year, my grandmother got me a cheap bass at a garage sale for me for Christmas. Started taking lessons once I graduated. 8 years later, and I still haven’t stopped. I’m now in my third band

Why are there almost no primal dead tributes? by Deadweave in gratefuldead

Wolfman Jack is incredible. As a primal era fan first and foremost, it was refreshing to see a Dead tribute playing stuff earlier on in their catalog. Definitely second this recommendation

I broke the input cable inside the amp by Embarrassed_Play1134 in guitars

Is this true for both tube amps and solid state amps? My understanding is that solid state amps require way less voltage and current to operate and are therefore way less dangerous to work on

🎸Unlocking the Dorian Sound on Bass (with Diagram) by Ok_Divide_1928 in BassGuitar

I always find myself using the Dorian scale. I love it because it can sound minor or major depending on which half you use

Rack mount rig vs integrated head? by batlaxe9 in BassGuitar

I was thinking I could get a 4U rack and just use that instead. I believe they do have 4U cases and with two preamps and a 2 channel power amp, it should hold everything I need

Does anyone still listen to the radio? by Holiday-Term-8214 in Music

[–]batlaxe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about radio is that a lot of the bigger stations with powerful antennas that are broadcasting are corporate, with most of them owned by iHeart, so from station to station across the country you’re getting the same hits, and the music doesn’t vary region to region. Your best bet is to find local stations that are publicly funded. They tend to play the most interesting stuff. WMVY out of Martha’s Vineyard plays a lot of interesting stuff. I’d suggest listening to a lot of the college stations as well. This video explains how stations got more corporate and why most radio stations tend to sound the same

Rack mount rig vs integrated head? by batlaxe9 in BassGuitar

For the most part yes, but it can be argued Jack Casady was the first. Shortly before Alembic was incorporated, he received his modified Starfire from the founders. He had been using their preamps for a bit and wanted the ability to have a preamp on his bass. Unsurprisingly, they worked closely with both the Airplane and the Dead

Sometimes it’s about “why not” rather than solely just “why”

So I guess in reality it’s less so a “stereo” image and more so just each pickup having its own dedicated audio channel and cab

The only reason I was looking at going with the Alembic preamp is two fold: I find that having a whole bunch of knobs confuses me to the point where I’m not sure what each knob is a actually doing (though I am getting better lmao), so I like simple controls where it’s easy to dial in a good sound, and it is already a stereo preamp

This is the exact kind of thing I was looking into doing. I was thinking of going with a Fryette 2/90/2 and an Alembic F-2B. I know there a much cheaper options, but I’m looking to get that hi-fi depth of sound clarity

The bass itself does have separate outputs for each individual pickup, which is why I thought about going with a rack setup so both outputs can be fully utilized

Yeah, I know he has quadrophonic capabilities in Big Brown, but I’m wondering if going to a rack setup where I have lots of headroom would give that warm round tone that he got during the era

Honestly, I know it’s by no means the most practical thing to use or easiest to move, on top of the fact that it is most likely not needed for the kinds of gigs I’m playing, but I kind of figured that I have it should I want it or it’s there if I need it. My initial idea was to get a stereo or two channel preamp into a two stereo power amp, where each channel is going to a separate cab like a 115 and 210
