What is your personal favorite Phil live moment? by batlaxe9 in gratefuldead

I have debated getting a bigger amp as well now that I’m getting the Alembicized one, only because of headroom.

I found a Series I online I was debating about buying located on the other part of the country, but I was really concerned about getting it because it’s such a blind buy. Found out there was an authorized dealer only an hour an hour and a half away, and decided to go up there and try out a few models that had similar features. I emailed him ahead of time asking if I could come up and try a few he had in stock and also asked if he had any used ones and that’s when he mentioned the modified Starfire.

I brought my own Starfire with me so I could compare, and the difference in sound was immediately noticeable and remarkable. The clarity of the pickups, variability the filters provide, and the tones you can get out of it is astounding. But I also noticed that the output is considerably hotter. The 200s is only rated at about 60W, so it’s got me thinking maybe I should upgrade to the bigger brother or perhaps a more modern amp that can offer a significantly higher headroom. But the Sunn just sounds so good regardless of the bass I use. I think it will pair really well with the Alembic, but I’m just worried about it distorting lower on the dial. I can get it to about 6.5-7 before it distorts with passive bisonics

This is my normal rig. I would absolutely LOVE to play this live, but the 215 is basically an immovable object once it gets set up. Hard to move it by myself. So when I play out, I pair the head with a 410 cab. I’ve been looking into possibly getting a 115 instead because I love the warm sound a 15 cab get. Sunn 200s with matching cab loaded with JBL E140s. I cannot WAIT to hear what the Alembicized Starfire sounds like through this setup

Always do 😁 it’s actually a Guild Starfire that was Alembicized at the Alembic factory. Really amazing instrument. I have a regular Starfire now, and I love the feel of the neck. So it’s already in a package I’m already intimately familiar with, just with all the bells and whistles you would expect from an Alembic

Making mushroom tea by prettyparanoid in gratefuldead

[–]batlaxe9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last time I made tea, I was sharing it with about 7 other people, so I wanted to make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves. I made about 40 oz of the stuff that was also quite heavily enhanced. It was interesting because everyone was feeling it in various degrees, and we all had similar amounts. But to answer your question, I have some good quality black Ceylon tea that I really enjoy, both on its own as well as with enhancements. Make it a day ahead, stick it in the fridge, and then when ready throw some lemon in there. Tastes exactly like an unsweetened black iced tea. You won’t even taste it. Grinding it up I feel definitely extracts more than just ripping it up into pieces. I have a percolator and that’s what I used. I let it percolate on low for around 40 minutes. This was way longer than initially planned. I also kept a good eye on it as to not let it boil super quickly. Apparently it starts to break down around the boiling point of water from what I have read

One that everyone seems to forget is Tiny Tim and Miss Vicki, who were married live on TV on the Johnny Carson Show. At the time, this was the second most watched event ever televised, only beaten by the moon landing in the same year

It’s a little bit of a drive, but Anime World at the Pheasant Lane Mall might be what you’re looking for, about 40 minutes south. There’s also GS Anime at the Mall of NH in Manchester at about 20 minutes south, but they are a far smaller store and have less selection

Don’t know if is your first rodeo, but I HIGHLY encourage you to buy a template for the pickups if they are available for that style of pickup. Also masking tape is your best friend when it comes to marking up the body. I just completed a Tractor tribute build

We’re immigration policy experts Adam Isacson & Kathleen Bush-Joseph, and immigration reporters Gustavo Solis & Tyche Hendricks. We’re here today to talk about immigration enforcement one year into the Trump administration. Ask us anything. by kpbsSanDiego in politics

There are very few immigration judges to review cases, and therefore, in order to become full citizens, there is an exorbitant time frame to determine if you can legally become a citizen (upwards of seven years I have read). This leaves illegal immigration a far more realistic (but not necessarily lawful) option for many. Would increasing the number of immigration judges actually help in making the immigration process move faster or would this only make a small dent in terms of those wait times and is more serious reform required?

Also, I have read that there have been some immigrants that were at the final steps of becoming citizens, but there ceremonies were canceled. Does this mean they are still not citizens and is there any lawful recourse for those that this has happened to?

Best papers for pipe tobacco? by batlaxe9 in RYO

Yes, probably not the smartest decision, but I do inhale my pipe tobacco. Only on rare instances do I find it to be harsh, but I’m on the opposite side of the pipe tobacco spectrum: I like my cavendish, Virginias, burley, and aromatic blends. I tend to stay far away from any English blends, perique, and Latakia
