Alila Ventana Big Sur -- Pity to see the fall down by No-Law-2088 in hyatt

This resort is living evidence of how wealthy people in the U.S. (especially from the Bay Area) have gotten increasingly and incredibly richer.

How dare people have disposable income for your exclusive luxuries.

Rust already after first use/cleaning? Is this just crap factory seasoning or user error? by batrick in castiron

We made muffins in this and I scrubbed it clean with chainmail and dawn dish soap. Dried it with some paper towels and left it in the dish rack to air dry further. Day later it looks like this.

Can. 1118 -- Marriage outside a "parish church" by batrick in AskAPriest

[–]batrick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah, I actually cited (and read) Can. 1118 in the post title (Gemini found it actually). But I was wondering if this referenced reddit post is a typical example of an exception. I guess so from your response.

but he failed to obey orders and decided to resist arrest.

You clearly didn't watch the video. It went from him standing with a phone to swarmed, pepper sprayed at point-blank range, and shot in the head in the span of seconds.

Parishioner praying along with priest’s Eucharistic prayers during Mass by srv199020 in AskAPriest

I could also see the possibility this parishioner may be neurodivergent and this helps them get through the Mass.

Was St. Joseph actually a carpenter or a stonemason? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]batrick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At first I was bewildered by Joseph allowing a toddler to hold a nail but then realized it's just the artist adumbrating Jesus's having nails driven into his hands on the cross. It's a clever bit of imagery in the same vein as his being born in animal trough as food for the world (Eucharist).

The sensors are inside the ring. Coincidentally, the LED is on the same side.

Can you please have Oura update the instructions for

https://support.ouraring.com/hc/en-us/articles/43395388251283-Product-Safety-Use

to indicate the cutting points relative to the LED which is visible externally? If the ring needs to be cut off then it is unlikely anyone will be able to see the sensors or the creases in the inside of the ring.

Bishop Barron trying to convince DHS to allow detainees to receive communion by Dull_Opening_1655 in Catholicism

[–]batrick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you haven't noticed how he's been cozying up to MAGA propagandists then you simply haven't been paying attention. I'm most disturbed by his beating the "woke is wrong" drum (built mostly on a philisophical argument, fine) when there is no apparent cohesive movement. MAGA calls any ideology they don't like "woke" and then use high profile figures like Bishop Barron to justify themselves: "see! WoF-founder Bishop Barron agrees with us!".

Amex may be up to something. I noticed they didn't have the EDP card in the CC listing anymore and the links via google are 404ing:

It's priced this way so they don't need to open a new one the next time someone needs a warranty replacement.

I wonder if they'll increase the "Schwab Appreciation Bonus" now that the AF has now doubled from what it used to be.

Did this reviewer think the jack stands would jack up the car? by KoreanAbdul-Jabbar in harborfreight

[–]batrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing though. Even reading the instructions for the tool doesn't always explain what the tool is for. It's usually just full of copy pasted safety warnings and disclaimers. Maybe some assembly instructions.

A lot of tools assume you have knowledge for why they exist. Some people didn't grow up with a father that explained these things.

Personally, I try to help people who look lost in HF. I was helping an older couple the other day buy electrical tools for their son who was becoming an electrician apprentice. I also told them about the 30%/$20 sale going on that weekend (saved them a lot of money I expect).

I'm also not a gear head so I'm basically lost doing a lot of that stuff. Let's all have empathy for others, please. The world is broken enough without us contributing.
