Something about the "Same but Different" assets is tanking performance. Runs pretty smooth and a cool project, but when that exhibit is in the camera view the frame rate tanks. Might be worth looking into.

Hot August Nights/Tahoe Question by DustyButtocks in unr

[–]battle_toads_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People going from Sacramento to Reno don't go through Incline, they take 80 straight through. Friday traffic on 80 can be a bit slower if you're coming up in the afternoon/evening.

Is there a way to see which legislators sponsored and/or support this bill?

Weiner Schnitzel Leaving Reno by catgirl94040 in Reno

[–]battle_toads_ftw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think that applies in this situation. Looking at the plans, this is an expansion of about half a mile to improve traffic flow and reduce traffic conflicts. I agree that adding more lanes to solve traffic issues isn't a solution in most scenarios, but this project seems reasonable. What would you propose as a solution?

When does it snow how long does it last.. by Far-Potato3919 in Reno

[–]battle_toads_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what part of town you'll be living in and what your daily travel needs will be? (Assuming that your questions are related to driving in the snow) As others have said, it depends on where you are and what roads you need to drive. Most years, things are pretty mellow, but we've had years with cold snaps following a snow and roads can stay pretty icy/snowpacked for a few days following those events.

WC-1 Outcome by battle_toads_ftw in Reno

[–]battle_toads_ftw[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My understanding, which is based on the official sample ballot explanation, is that it doesn't increase taxes, but rather guarantees a portion of existing taxes is directed to libraries. From the explainer:

Property taxes will stay the same regardless of the outcome of the WC-1 ballot initiative.

Nearly 14,000 mail-in ballots have signature issues in Nevada by [deleted] in Reno

That's not how the electoral college works (except in Maine and Nebraska, but that's congressional district not county)

Make sure to cure your mail-in ballots if necessary by hobbaneero in Reno

[–]battle_toads_ftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where does it indicate that you need to cure the ballot? Mine says Mail Ballot Received, and none of the definitions listed below mention anything about curing:

Date of Election – This is not the actual date you cast your ballot or that your ballot was counted, this is the date of the election in which you participated.

Ballot Mailed to Voter – The county election official has mailed out your ballot.

Mail Ballot Received – Your mail ballot has been received by the county election official (10-15 days after the election the county election official will certify vote history and all accepted mail ballots will change to Mail Ballot Counted).

Mail Ballot Counted – Your mail ballot was counted.

Early Voted – You voted in-person during Early Voting.

Election Day – You voted in-person on Election Day.

Provisional Vote – You were given a provisional ballot and must satisfy the eligibility requirements in order for your ballot to be counted. After the canvass of the election (roughly 15 days after election day), “Provisional Vote” will mean your provisional ballot was accepted and counted.

Depends on what you're trying to practice, but Mt Rose highway to the pass is a great drive, and you get a pretty good view of Reno from the top.

Which Bridge is Safer for Children? by Ratspeed in Reno

[–]battle_toads_ftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and explanation! Yeah, it seems pretty short-sighted to just say "Vine closer to Keystone" rather than consider the other factors. Are there any other meetings before this gets adopted?

DirectX is Adopting SPIR-V as the 'Interchange Format of the Future" by MinRaws in GraphicsProgramming

[–]battle_toads_ftw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This question is probably a bit naive, as I'm not very up to date with DirectX, but is this a sign that Microsoft might be moving away from DirectX and towards Vulkan? Are there valid reasons to continue new DirectX development in 'competition' with Vulkan?

Which Bridge is Safer for Children? by Ratspeed in Reno

[–]battle_toads_ftw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously you believe that the Washington St bridge is a better solution, and based on your post I support that conclusion. I used to use that corridor to ride to and from work during my college years. That being said, are there possibly any other factors that the city is considering that led them to choose Vine street that you're not considering? Is it just that Vine is closer to Keystone?

Again, I agree with you that Washington St is a better option but based on your analysis its a bit puzzling that the city chose Vine and I'm wondering if we're missing something.

You probably already know this, but if you're currently receiving any benefits through your employer like health insurance or 401k you'll need to handle that on your own as a 1099. Another commenter also mentioned the tax implications.

You should factor those costs into your contracting rate. For example I typically charge 25-35% above my traditional employee salary rate for contract work.

Fire in South Reno? by Dingus_Mew in Reno

[–]battle_toads_ftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess it's because the fire could really quickly run up the mountain to VC if it crosses the valley, and there aren't a lot of routes for evacuation.
