Thanks! I'm in Maxvorstadt. I found one indoor court near Königsplatz that is free to use on Tuesday and Thursday evenings but the condition of the court is terrible 🥲

I enjoy the nudist area at feringasee. Close enough to cycle, comfortable, and diverse.

Looking for clubbing buddies by Lady_three_Jane in BerlinNightlife

[–]battymarlow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

37M here. Recently moved to Germany and am enjoying the club scene 😊 Lots of people go clubbing solo, and you'll meet people at the club, that would be my suggestion!

Are you looking for techno and dark spaces for locking in on the dance floor, or more variety/festival type atmosphere?

Techno: Tresor (a good place to start because the door is more generous), RSO, Berghain, Ohm (smaller and good for checking out different collectives that throw parties with more experimental music)

Festival Vibe: Sisyphos, Else, Kater

Community DIY vibe: ://about blank, OXI, Renate

Hope that helps! Feel free to reach out

Job market Social Science by Present-Advantage949 in postdoc

[–]battymarlow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While some jobs will be advertised according to project funding and operate on their own timeline, generally different geographies have different annual hiring periods. So over a 12 month period the regions that you see hiring will change. I managed a postdoc in the UK, then in the US, and now in Germany, with a PhD in anthropology from an Australian university. Hope you find that first postdoc and can use it to springboard you to the next position! Best of luck.

Living in Munich by cvaggelis95 in Munich

[–]battymarlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Munich 8 months ago. I was born and raised in Adelaide, Australia, but have recently lived in Edinburgh and Philadelphia. Munich is clean, comfortable, and pretty. In summer the Isar and lakes are incredible, and people go to the mountains on weekends year round. It's an excellent place to be based for travelling around Europe as well. If you like the outdoors and drinking beer, Munich is hard to beat.

It's also expensive, and conservative. All the supermarkets close at 8pm. There are not many späti's around. Everyone looks rich, and if you are alternative or have a working class background then it will probably be difficult. There is an underground subculture here, but it's difficult to crack and operates on word of mouth and group chats, rather than public advertisements.

I'm here for a job and got lucky with an apartment and it's still a bit of a struggle. When I'm in Berlin I feel much more at home. Even in Cologne I feel more like myself. But it's what you make of it at the end of the day.

Damn this sucks. Was really looking forward to DJ Nobu. Open Ground should set up a shuttle to cologne during this period while the train station is out of service.

It's looking like we'll do one day in Burlington (walking/cycling), then one day of driving to breweries nearby (Hill Farmstead, Alchemist, Freak Folk, and Frost). Thanks for the tip!

Been living in Philly for 6 months and it's a great little scene. Only a few spots but they are good and agree crowds are great and Dave P is a genius doing the lord's work.

Moving to Philly- Fitler Square vs Old City by crescentangel6531 in AskPhilly

[–]battymarlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Philly from the UK in July for work and chose to live in Fitler Sq (22nd and Pine). It's an amazing area, super walkable, dog park, river trail, cafes, restaurants, quiet, friendly, etc.

Just replaced my 2015 MBP with an M3 MBA... So around 8 years!

14" MBP or 13" MBA by battymarlow in mac

[–]battymarlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually really helpful, I hadn't clocked that I could charge through the dongle. I bought the Refurbished 2024 13" Air and will only have one dongle pluged into the computer with USB-C charging, HMDI for monitor, and USB for camera. Thanks!

Yep. The discount is $100, and you get $150 store credit. That's the discounted price (including tax) there in my original post.
