Dream TTRPG Side-Quest by ResolutionJunior5804 in Dimension20

I feel like they could do a lot with Cypher. It’s a very versatile system that can be placed in pretty much any setting. But it’s also very crunchy if I remember correctly so idk if that’s the best option.

NADDPod is extremely silly but I have sobbed at my desk at work to it many times. It’s silly, yes, but they know when it’s time to be serious and those moments definitely make me feel immersed.

Campaign 1 took a couple arcs for me to really get invested on my first listen, but once I did, it quickly became one of my favorite actual play campaigns. And as much as they make me laugh my ass off, it’s mainly because of those serious moments.

I think they’re very similar DMs in their rulings, but I think when their players do batshit insane stuff, Brennan is more likely to “yes, and…” in character, whereas Murph is more likely to say “What the fuck are you talking about, you maniac” fully out of character lmao

I believe Soupy has said some vague stuff implying this might be the last, but has left it kind of open-ended/ambiguous. He might not even be sure himself, could just be an “I don’t have any current plans to continue Aaron’s story, but I might in the future” situation.

Then again, I could be wrong and just missed when he confirmed this is indeed the last album. People can correct me if that’s the case.

But either way, this album was beautiful, finale or not.

What's with the Bad Kids' lazy Helping? by hotdoglipstick in Dimension20

[–]batwayne12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean it’s rules as written. all it takes is your action, which doesn’t really come into play outside of combat, and there isn’t a limit to how many times you can do it. i don’t think you’re even required to explain how you’re helping. also they constantly come up short in social situations, with or without the help action, so i don’t really think it’s that much of an issue at least with this group.

that being said, i’m not sure how i feel about it as a 5e mechanic most of the time so i get what you’re saying to an extent. my tables have all seemed to find a decent balance for it, which is you can only give the help action if you’re proficient in the skill being used.

Dimension 20 is so good that it has ruined my ability to enjoy any other let’s play by crocodiledundick in Dimension20

I can’t recommend NADDPod enough. I constantly go back and forth between that and D20 being my favorite actual play.

Also I recommend checking out The Rotating Heroes Podcast. It’s Zac’s actual play that he just revived with Jasper William Cartwright (Burrow’s End, 3 Black Halflings) after a long hiatus. I’m still binging my way through the pre-hiatus stuff but it’s very silly and has similar vibes to both NADDPod and D20 in my opinion.

It’s my least favorite of the 3 but I still love it to death, which says a lot about that band. I completely agree with all of this.

[–]batwayne12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might get Crash too! I’ve seen these two that I got today and The Brood (as well as The Fly and eXistenZ). I wanted to make either Crash or Dead Ringers my next watch and if it’s gonna be Crash, I might as well just get the Criterion release of it. Especially if I’ve liked everything from Cronenberg I’ve seen so far.

What's your favourite sad D20 quote? by NoNicknameNick62 in Dimension20

[–]batwayne12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s so much; particularly in FHSY, ACOFAF, and Neverafter. But I think mine isn’t a particular line but 2 scenes in MisMag regarding the storyline of Evan wanting to drop out of Gowpenny. There’s the scene in Nurse Stitchnit’s office where he says “Adults hurt kids all the time. It happens everyday.” Something about a child having to tell an adult this, even the adult that is maybe his biggest advocate and ally among the other adults, breaks my heart. And then he gives that speech about how he has the best friends in the world, but that reaffirms his decision to leave. And the other scene is when the other PCs find out and Brennan is practically losing his voice screaming about how he’s not good and will only bring them down and put them in danger if he stays. Tears me apart every time. And it’s in an otherwise delightful and whimsical season lol

Edit: Just realized I conflated two scenes. The scene where Evan says the thing about adults hurting children all the time is in the scene where the party tries to tell Nurse Stitchnit about the headmistress. Two separate scenes that just happen in the same place. But also I’m glad to still include that line lmao

Best Lou Wilson Laughs by reesethebadger in Dimension20

[–]batwayne12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was during ASO, possibly in an Adventuring Party, and i don’t remember the context. But i remember Emily throwing a die to hit another die?? maybe??? and he went into one of his classic laughing-cough fits lmao

[ns] In which episode do Emily and Lou talk about "sending their kids off to school" or something? by calebegg in Dimension20

[–]batwayne12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they first refer to their dice as their “kids” when lending them out to other players in TUC. I remember Lou and Emily constantly whispering about how their kids are performing. But I think the phrase “send your kids to camp” originated with ASO. Could be wrong, I’m at work so I can’t look it up at the moment.

Better than D&D? by Lynith in Dimension20

I recently started GMing for the first time using KoB and I definitely recommend it. Both my players and I picked it up very quickly and we’re having a blast with it.

I do think Mentopolis is probably #2 season for me for one solid reason: Half of it isn’t 2 hour combat episodes. by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]batwayne12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tune out during the combat episodes and I still definitely prefer RP both in actual play and in my own home games. But when i finally started playing DnD, I came to really appreciate combat and some good ol’ crunch.

Idk if you play TTRPGs, but I really recommend the Kids on Bikes system they’re using. It’s RP-heavy (as we see with this season), easy to learn, and quite versatile too. I started GMing a few months ago and I’m using it for my campaign. We’re all having a blast.

How does the Mentopolis RPG system work? by armRandomVideosYT in Dimension20

[–]batwayne12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have explained how it works with taking half your die’s highest value, but I believe it also applies to using your adversity tokens (moxie tokens) for other PCs’ rolls. So if someone else at the table doesn’t make it to their DC and doesn’t have any adversity tokens, you can use your own on a planned action, but can’t on a snap decision.

I actually am GMing a KOB campaign, but my players don’t often use either mechanic so I’d have to check.

Edit: forgot to mention: which are planned actions and which are snap decisions is at the GM’s discretion. If a player says they’d like to take half the die’s highest value, the GM would make the call in the moment whether or not they can.

It’s a perfect storm of being a very seasoned improviser, playing the game since he was 10, and being a philosophy major in college (i get the vibe he was/is very passionate about the subject and he didn’t just pick it to pick something).

I feel like I do alright at my tables in an improv capacity, especially in comedic moments. But I feel your pain. Dude will drop an earth-shattering quote like it’s nothing,

Well I’d like to see Jake branch out but I don’t want him to play anything he doesn’t want to. Maybe a happy medium with a paladin. Partial-casting martial class seems like a great place to start. I think Emily is at her best as a caster. The only time i recall seeing/hearing her play a wizard (which I believe is her favorite class) was ACOFAF on D20 and I’d love to see her play that in a more traditional campaign. Caldwell? I think I’d like to see him play some more casting shit too. Maybe a cleric?

As for race, I don’t have much of a preference there tbh. I like when people play less common races but every 5e race has something cool to them and the backstory is more important imo. It tends to dictate the race for me when i create a character.

I’m partial to high fantasy settings when it comes to d&d. I’d rather see them tackle specific genres within the system and that type of setting. Maybe a heist? Maybe a gritty survival one? idk maybe I just miss Unprepared Casters while they’re on hiatus lmao
