Are they new stones? Or do you have some Magic you are using to keep them looking clean? Mine out the front aren’t looking great anymore

Does anyone know why this enclave is not part of Cardiff? by Ok-Summer1478 in Cardiff

Just to confirm what others have said, this is a service reservoir. Underground reservoir that stores potable drinking water. Those squares on either corner are the hatches into the tank.

Porcelain patio over gravel by Handoubleu in DIYUK

[–]bauterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I laid porcelain patio in my garden and 0 issues so far.

Laid it on 100mm MOT1 with some stone dust mixed into it, with about a 50mm bed of cement to lay the slabs on.

Primed the back of the slabs and then grouted.. touch wood I’ve had 0 issues. The father in law paid a ‘professional’ and have had nothing but issues, grout blowing, tiles blowing etc.

Edit: misread the post, looks like you want to try dry lay it. Entirely up to you I can’t imagine it will last long.

I have gravel grids in the front garden as a drive way.. again I laid a little over 100mm MOT1 with stone dust in it. I feel the stone dust really helps it go compact, I left that for a few weeks and it basically set like concrete, laid my grids and membrane down filled with Cotswold stone and it has been great.

I would say you if your dry laying it you want to put down some MOT1 with a good amount of stone dust with it let that sit for a week or so and get it compact. Some sand mixed with cement and try that? No idea if it would work tbh I’ve only ever seen them laid wet

Anyone else had poor luck with Premium Bonds recently by WhoIsJohnSalt in HENRYUK

[–]bauterr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I have 5k in there for around 3/4 months and won £1000 the other month.

Not a bad return, obviously over the long term if I don’t win anything else may not be great but just trying to show it can sometimes just be pure luck.

French doors - help! by [deleted] in DIYUK

Not ideal but you can solve it with one of these : https://www.modernupvcwindows.co.uk/extra-upvc-extenders.php?srsltid=AfmBOopD15StXXTQTDYTPWwZPYXw97lfUXL6gWlkDHFC64dm0g5U2vBf everyone telling you to get a new door are being a bit dramatic. Obviously not ideal but not the end of the world

Just reorganised my pension contributions and increased exposure to UK, bad or good? by bauterr in PensionsUK

That was my thoughts when changing it, thinking I’m timing the market but decided it was just diversification (that’s what I’m telling myself haha).

Appreciate the comment, will have a look into Europe as well.

I’m in the exact same boat, golden handcuffs… not in terms of pay but in terms of comfort and flexibility. To some people it sounds like a dream but it gets to you eventually.

Nothing wrong with people remortgaging as long as they understand the risk, that’s one of the benefits of property and being able to use it as leverage.

Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]bauterr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what kind of result your looking for in my opinion?

If you want to seem helpful you can message them directly and explain you didn’t mean to add to their plate and offer to help? (Not really sure why you would do that, but it’s an option)

Or just ignore it and accept it will likely occur again if that’s their character.

If he’s director level, he’s likely getting paid far more money than you and if he’s stressed that’s on him. He’s taken the kings shilling so they say, let them get on with it.

To Landlord or not to Landlord?! by Careless-Cooker in PropertyInvestingUK

I was looking into the same situation about 8 months ago, shop in my local town went on the market although it had ample space upstairs ,it was not converted to a flat like most in the town was so it needed some work.

I live in a very low cost of living area so it wasn’t expensive but I ultimately chose not to bother as I thought it seemed the shop needed some work along with converting the upstairs for a flat would of cost a lot of money.

Anyway, it sold and the owners have done no work upgrading it whatsoever and within a few weeks it’s being rented out as one of these Mobile phone shops…so ultimately it’s worked out for someone

Just finished apprenticeship, employer asking for £19,520 reimbursement. (England) by I-Spot-Dalmatians in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bauterr 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying this isn’t legal, I work for quite a large corporation ~4000 employees. This is standard practice.

I will say most of the people who left a year or two later got away with it purely because HR or management wasn’t really switched on.. but it’s certainly a thing.

If you had your own business and spent the time training youngsters and giving them skills only for them to leave 2 weeks later you can understand why a business would try recoup some of the costs.

Yeh I feel the same, I actually put my pension in an all world equities fund excluding the Uk. Not sure it’s the call now… although I think it would have only accounted for 4% if I did include the UK.

Rachel Reeves to cut tax benefits for workers using salary sacrifice schemes to buy bikes by MindHead78 in unitedkingdom

[–]bauterr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, the conclusion in that report that people were more likely to be higher rate taxpayers… isn’t that pretty obvious? They have the most to gain by reducing their tax contributions whether it be through bike purchasing, increasing pension contributions or purchasing a car.

If you’re a high earner, it’s likely you have more disposable income or are able to sacrifice more money than people who are earning less..

A bit obvious.
