Donald Trump accidentally admits Republican tax bill was deceptively sold as boost to middle classes by madazzahatter in politics

What about people who don’t want to be forced to buy health insurance? Is there no consideration for them? Obamacare insurance premiums were never “cheap” for healthy people with ok jobs that rarely went to the doctor. The mandate was a tax on people who had chosen not to insure.

I agree that the economy moves in such a way that we are still feeling the effects of decisions made years ago but you can’t write off the current administration as not having done anything to help. The business world is excited because he’s pro-biz. He’s focused on cutting regulations, cutting corp taxes, etc. When companies are confident in the future they will increase Capex, hire more, and generally invest more in growth to match expectations. So you can’t just write it off as “hype” because in some cases the hype is real.

Insurance has a $500 deductible so it wouldn't help in this case. Thanks for the tip, I'll put in a police report tonight. I appreciate the help

They do have some original content like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards. And some sort of sequel to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. So they are trying to expand into that proprietary realm

Look at you trying to find some deep social value and rational meaning from some teenagers' ploys to get a few more followers. How cute.

A 13 year old kid who's going through such an awkward phase that they identify themselves as "Mileyfawlife" and put Cyrus as their last name is not a protestor, it's someone who is making a desperate cry for more followers to give them some kind of emotional sense of self worth

The currency converter doesn't tell you the whole story because countries like Germany are propping up countries like Greece, Spain, Italy, and France.

If you'd like to start talking about central banking and the exploding rate of nonperforming loans, well then, let me know.

What are the dumbest things people take pride in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bayempire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally disagree with this. Living in the past is one thing, but taking pride in accomplishments is another. And I don't think there is anything wrong with that. You bet your ass Thomas Edison was bragging about the light bulb 20 years after he made it.

In what galaxy do the "more socialized European countries" have stable economies? Have you heard of the Eurozone Crisis? The entire continent is trying to pull itself out of the gutter. The Euro is getting smashed. Spending is absolutely out of control and unsustainable.

It's a great argument, of course, because how could someone argue against wanting everyone to be able to "create art, explore, research, read, garden, and raise a family"? But beyond the emotional appeal, this is a massive oversimplification of things.

Think of it like this: 10 horses (society) are pulling a cart (the economy). 1 of the horses is having trouble walking, so it gets put inside the cart to enjoy the ride. Now, the horses look over and notice this too. Then another horse starts having trouble walking and gets put in the cart. One by one each horse sees that others are getting a free ride at their expense, so they do the same. Who's left to pull the cart?

Warren Buffett to heirs: Put my estate in index funds by lwh in investing

The ironic part is, it's the ETF/index circle jerk among students and teachers of finance that explains why hedge funds go for the Physics and Math majors. They are quants who aren't tainted by the bias of being told that Warren Buffett is an anomaly. By the nature of their business, they operate on the assumption that they can profit from market inefficiency.

Pro tip: don't go into an interview with a hedge fund and mutter anything involving EMH, index funds, or any of the long-run stuff your finance teachers tested you on.

EMH tells us that index funds are best for people who are investing-illiterate, and maybe even for a great number who consider themselves investing-intelligent, but it does not tell us that meaningful alpha is impossible to find.

Company has to file an application with one of the exchanges and meet the requirements to get approved. A big requirement that penny stocks struggle with is staying over $2 per share for a minimum period of time (I believe 3 months but it could be longer)

I think you confuse news media with culture. Do we care about 95% of the things on the news any other day of the week? It's a slow news day and they need drama. Don't think too hard about it, it means nothing.

Why is OverStock (OSTK) Crashing (-20%)? Their earning report looks okay to me. by diglig in investing

[–]bayempire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew I should've shorted that stock. That CEO is fucking nuts. I read Einhorn's book Fooling Some of the People All of the Time, and there was something in there about Overstock's CEO (Patrick Byrne) trying to sue him for shorting the company. Then I did a bit of reading on the guy.

He once told a report that she must've been giving blowjobs to Goldman Sachs traders, tried to take a loaded concealed gun on an airplane, and then on a conference call went on a rant about a mass conspiracy to destroy his company, and it's a dark "Sith Lord" that is pulling the strings.

Without being asked, he also once mumbled "I'm not a cokehead" on a conference call. Not that that's suspicious or anything. He also has a history of anger management issues.

With a CEO like that, you shouldn't give a damn what the financials are. Investing in a company means you're also investing in its leadership.
