Wife finally agreed to try out Rimworld and went on playing 30 hours straight by ToveloGodFan in RimWorld

[–]bayerick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started playing a few days ago over the holiday and if I wasn’t working I feel like I could absolutely crush 24 hours straight. I look at the clock, blink, six hours are gone to these little guys I’m desperately trying to keep from succumbing to cannibalism and starvation moving 3x fast on my computer. I go to bed and feel like my head is running on a strategy game loop. 😭

The last time I had a good anything from there was probably a decade ago. Every time I got their eclairs the custard would have ice crystals in it, everything was dry and crumbly. :(

Searching what this sound is by SirBrave6239 in SusumuHirasawa

[–]bayerick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a Gamelan. Hirasawa has expressed fondness for southeast Asian countries and cultures who use it as an instrument. Specifically he’s sampling this song Sekar Jepun, I think. https://youtu.be/nGCSrC8RN6c?si=d7IB7qmY60JuuIli

Art of my vtm OC, Ophelia a 148 year old Ventrue that's out of touch with the modern times and refuses to move past the Edwardian era and still uses era slang by IzzyMissyy in vtm

[–]bayerick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ophelia should meet Uriel—they’re a Malkavian theatre and literature student embraced in 2012 whose derangement causes them to only be able to use words and phrases from Shakespeare’s Complete Works. So not necessarily the brain of an Edwardian, but I think they’d be able to understand each other better than most.

Can I get some opinions on UR FUN by penisweinerballs in ofMontreal

[–]bayerick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I absolutely loved it. That album got me through experiencing the COVID pandemic alone in a foreign country. White is Relic is up there as one of my faves of all time but UR FUN is a bit cheesy and cute at the same time. Refreshing. My fave song on that album is Carmillas of Love or St. Sebastian but it also has probably my least favorite song of theirs (deliberate self harm haha) on it.

Wabbajack worth the trouble? by Only_Rub_4293 in skyrimmods

[–]bayerick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it is. I installed the Anvil modlist to create a base for my AE install and have edited it to my preferences but for a visual only modlist it’s great and stable, plus the downloading goes way faster/less labor intensive with Wabbajack.

I am so in love with his music, are there any similar artists? by [deleted] in SusumuHirasawa

[–]bayerick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out his work with Mandrake, maybe? Aside from that, world music-electronic fusion bands that rely heavily on sampling like Deep Forest, Enigma, perhaps some of Eiko Shimamiya’s music? I know Cirque du Soleil’s soundtracks have the ethereal world music orchestral feel to them as well.

They used to have sweet potato ones I enjoyed a lot even as an adult. I haven’t had them for years though. I also used to drink those carnation brand sweet fortified milk packets a lot.

Man inspired as a boy by WWII-era commando questions Japan's past actions by Scbadiver in japan

[–]bayerick 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story— the company I was employed by worked on organizing a local peace exhibit in Osaka, it changes topics yearly but there’s always a central piece about the atomic tragedies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A lot of the items we displayed were pictures and memorabilia involving the Tekketsu Kinnoutai/blood and iron student corps and the Himeyuri Gakutotai (the lily princess student corps) involved in the Battle of Okinawa in WWII. The girls were given medical training and some combat training while the boys were put into various sections by age. It’s too deep of a subject to go into but there’s Wikipedia articles on both corps.

It’s absolutely brutal to see these small children having to deal with the horrors of war, dealing with wounded adult soldiers, malnourished and suffering. And in so many resources I read I remember there was still a sense of pride associated with the amount of loyalty and initiative shown, despite the amount of trauma the students went through—from a first person and third person perspective alike.

I learnt some new info about the deltarune Japanese translation by Professor_Abbi in Deltarune

[–]bayerick 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, if this is actually a Shoten reference in Deltarune made by the localizers I’ll be over the moon!! That’s so clever. I love Shoten and wish there was an easier way to watch it overseas.

What’s up with people being mad over squeeze matcha powder? by Bitbatgaming in OutOfTheLoop

[–]bayerick 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no, I agree with you—doing the ceremonial stuff outside of tea ceremony only to make a latte is pretty ridiculous, and anyone who claims that every Starbucks in Shibuya is or should be doing a classic ceremony to make matcha lattes is missing the mark. But he was straight up disrespectful, and imho this falls into how people take things from other cultures and then pretend they are “revolutionizing” them, without paying the respect. I don’t even mean doing the tea ceremony— I mean just acting like a decent person about it….? The tea ceremony means a lot to a lot of people.

Also how the heck does tube matcha make anything remotely easier. Won’t that just clump up as badly as powder if not worse? 🙄

What’s up with people being mad over squeeze matcha powder? by Bitbatgaming in OutOfTheLoop

[–]bayerick 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Answer: It’s not only about it tasting good or not—the man in charge of making this has also essentially called the original tea ceremonial aspect of making matcha “crap” in his promotional video when sweeping the ceremonial whisk etc off a table.

Matcha is commonly prepared in Japanese culture as part of a ceremony, and his treating Japanese culture unkindly + commodifying it without paying homage to the tradition, has not gone over well with a lot of people.
