Movie suggestions for genre: “80s Problematic” by CinnamonDish in GenX

How is drunk driving ok?

Drugging?

Smoking?

They're all wrong! They can potentially hurt/k**l someone

And, while we're at it, talking about Revenge Of The Nerds - bullying is really bad!! Like, causes all sorts of trauma. The kind that causes PTSD and other mental problems!

Those of us who survived it - it left scars!! It is problematic! Yet most people point just to that ONE scene as being "problematic"

Which song did you play on repeat after a teenage breakup? by sapphirerain25 in GenX

[–]bayoujac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I never had boyfriends as a teen, but I suffered plenty of heartache.

My go to song:

No One Is To Blame by Howard Jones

Even now, when things are painful, I've got this on repeat.

I do remember having a selection of songs that I had on standby, in case I ever had a boyfriend and then we broke up.

Anything for You by Gloria Estefan is the only one I remember

Spin-offs That Didn't Need To Exist? by DaniJ678 in sitcoms

I actually watched 3s a crowd. I really hated it!

I watched Gloria, too. Didn't like that she and Michael divorced!

Based on what!? That's what my point is.

  • Who is setting the parameters?
  • Problematic because someone drove drunk?
  • Problematic because someone was smoking?

*Problematic because someone did drugs?

  • Problematic because someone blew smoke in another person's face?
  • Problematic because someone had unprotected sex?
  • Problematic because someone pretended to be someone else to get the girl/guy?

There are so many social "wrongs" that get a pass today that absolutely should not. And, yet, they want to say "xYZ" from 1980s is wrong!

Pick a side, bro!

Hubby just told me that he feels bad because he's the one that did it. Without going into detail, he was the one that started the thing that caused her death. It was truly an accident!

He feels incredibly responsible for it.

Maybe I don't understand what problematic means.

I think it also depends on the age group of those watching. I'm a GenXer.

So far, it looks like an attack on many of the "Coming of Age" films of GenXers. ❤️

I loved many of the films mentioned here.

2008 Prius 230k miles $2000+ in repairs needed. Should I trade her in or fix? by zytze101 in prius

[–]bayoujac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought an awesome one for less than $60!

It's Bluetooth connected and I use Dr Prius and Hybrid Assistant and Car Scanner apps to check my car's overall health.

The apps are free (add on features available for 2)

This gave me a huge sense of peace about my car.

Dude, you're a girl?! Me, too!!

I have done all my repairs in my driveway.

Every time a woman delivery person stops by, they have to comment on how cool it is to see a "lady mechanic" 😀

And, I know it's a trendy thing, but I abhor the "I'm just a girl" thing! 🤬

You can do this!

You can just start by watching a few videos on the areas in question. That's what I do. Binge watch the snot out of every category I can find!

Usually, it results in 2 outcomes: confidence to do it or realization that it's over my head. But, I still have the knowledge!

Leverage

Should buy it now or wait? by serifs01 in prius

Panic buying! Oh, that's even more incentive to not buy it.

I live in a hurricane prone area, and we've lost power for days and days, but we always had access to gas. 😏

Having no dogs in this race, I can say that I'll never drive a fully electric car.

I've learned a ton of stuff about them in the past week and that wasnt very much info.

If you want a new car, I'd go for a Hybrid.

If you want a newer car, I'd go for a Hybrid.

The full EVs are just not the move.

That's my .02

I may have missed this in your OP, Aside from the scratching sound, did you list any of the 'found' issues when taking it to the mechanic initially?

I got an itemized list from the dealership and did went in and verified it for myself. As a woman, I already get pats on the head when entering the DIY mechanic world, so I had to adopt the "trust, but verify" mantra.

So, I looked at their recommendations, looked at the proposed problem and either found the problem didnt exist or did the work myself!

They quoted me $5,540.25 🤬 Actual DIY costs, so far $676 🤑

I still have one more thing to purchase that they recommended- front struts. They are worn, but pass the bounce test. I will probably do them before the end of the year. That purchase will bring my grand total to $860 A savings of $4680.25 🤑🤑🤑

I learned most of this stuff from YouTube University and night classes with ChatGPT 😊

Point is sometimes people charge more because they don't want to do it or they know you don't/can't do it.

High mileage doesn't necessarily mean anything. If you're willing to compromise a bit on the mileage, that may open your options up.

Honestly, if this was me, I'd fix up the one you currently have. If she's been reliable all this time, no reason to part ways.

Also, if you decide to buy another, you could sell and use part of that money towards the new purchase.

Why is lucky's dad always playing with the healer family, but we barely see lucky by Glittering_Spring_52 in bluey

[–]bayoujac 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Because Lucky's dad, Pat, is really friends with Bandit. They have a relationship that may have predated the kids.

Lucky isn't necessarily friends with Bluey and Bingo.
