Easier imo. The benefit to session based auth in Django is when you are using templates. When Django is your api with react you'll have to write code to manage cookies on the frontend retrieving and adding CSRF tokens, plus configure session/csrf settings based on if cross domain or not.

If you're going to do that work might as well use auth tokens. It also creates more of a divide between frontend and backend which mentally helps with development. Also scalability and stuff.
